Playstation 2 + SLide Tool

(04 Mar 2007 2:09)

Hello again.

So just as i did with the Nintendo Gamecube, firstly i'll test a softmod out for this console, then i'll sell the console with softmod and games and purchase a chip or HDAdvance, i guess i'm just doing this for experience and fun too, i only have a girlfriend and my consoles in life so these are a big part of it.

So, i purchased a cheap £55($112) Playstation 2 bundle with games and accessories, knowing i'll be selling the games i get with the console later, then searched at the memtech solutions website (great website in the UK you can purchase all your modding equipment through paypal) were i bought a SLide tool with swap magic 3.6 PAL software.

When i recieved my PS2 console and swap magic disks, i immediately copied a game to disk, this time i had the information and bought Verbatim 16x (couldn't find the 8x bah..) which are the best media disks to buy for the Playstation 2, I then ran the swap magic 3.6 disks on my console, easily used the SLide tool to take out my drive, placed the disk in, pushed the drive back in and the game booted.

Wow.. first time, i was able to play WWE smackdown vs raw 2007 (I don't actually watch wrestling on TV, hell i used too, back in the days of the stone cold, the rock, kurt angle, undertaker, triple h days) but who cares about watching John Cena vs Shawn Michaels? now compare that to the 6man armageddon back in 2000, the best match i've ever watched.

Anyway back on track haha, i guess maybe i'll stick with this console, seeing as the games work 100% every time i try, 10/10, no problems, costs £15($31) much better than the network adapter, hard drive and HDAdvance which costs up to £100($202) if your not fussed about changing disks then this is the solution for you really.

Thankyou for reading.

Nintendo Gamecube SD Media Launcher

(04 Mar 2007 1:54)

So, i got information on these forums that the easiest and cheapest way to softmod is through an SD Media Launcher, so i bought one from ebay for £28($57) and soon as it came i tested it with the latest gcos software.

Okay, so its all going fine by this point, i copy 4 games onto unbranded disks (haha, i was told never to copy games to unbranded disks) only one worked when i tested though, a PAL version of Mario Kart Double Dash which kept crashing every 10 minutes, but i've heard this is because it has an IDLE bug, the other three games i tested were NTSC games, which crashed on booting.

So i had to open the gamecube up, tweak the POT, the first reading without tweaking was set at 260ohmz, so i tweaked it down to 190ohmz, thinking this would actually work, but it made games even worse, but i know the reason is because i used unbranded disks. (i was told..)

I finally ended up buying Sony 8cm DVD-R, which ran all games flawlessly but i ended up selling my gamecube on ebay, before buying another gamecube and Xeno GC 2 chip installed.

I'd say my experience with the SD Media Launcher was okay, 7/10 because even though it is a softmod you still have to actually have experience in opening the gamecube up, buying seperate hardware to do this and and then tweaking the POT, not for beginners i guess, but easily done, i'd rather stick with the chip.

Thankyou for reading!

Introduction

(04 Mar 2007 1:43)

I know nobody reads these, but just incase somebody does, i thought i'd write this i'm not the greatest blog writter, hey this is even the first blog i've ever wrote, i'm also not good at spellings so don't expect much from me.

I'm going to use this blogging space, just to write down the few things i've done with the information i've learnt from these forums. Kinda like a reviewing space, but on here.

Thankyou for looking!
