That streak of light is a 4-second exposure of the International Space Station passing overhead. It started off invisible, then dim, then outshone everything else in the sky, all in those 4 seconds. It was awesome to see, and happens quite often.

I just put the camera on a tripod, aimed it where I knew the space station would appear and set it to take a 4 second exposure. Then when it started, I just took a picture and it held the shutter open for 4 seconds. If I had it to do over again I would have controlled the shutter manually instead of setting it to 4 seconds, though.
