@Pspness Why do you think your laser is going bad? I remember reading somewhere you use cheap media, that could be the problem. Does your PS2 skip/lag/freeze with backups/originals?

  • Pspness (22 Jan 2006 15:51)

yea im using cheap media, after they are all gone im goin to buy verbatims. everything is goin all good, no skip or freezes or anything like that. but when you updated you thread, it said using cheap media will mess up my laser after time. thats all, im just hoping that time isnt soon

  • alexps2 (23 Jan 2006 19:06)

i was wondering what would be the cheapest way for me to be able to play backup and imports on my playstation 2
could you plz give me some recomendations to some sites where i can buy the gear needed

  • Tokijin (24 Jan 2006 4:43)

@Pspness Don't worry before you have any problems. I worry about my PS2, because I get an occasional skip. Before I get too paranoid, I remember my laser is 5 years old and all I play is backups. Modchips aren't perfect, but they're damn close. Get some Verb's and copy all your old games onto them. If you've a ton of backups, than maybe just burn all your future games onto Verb's. Any game you plan on playing for an extended length of time should be copied onto good media. Your laser will thank you later.

@ alexps2 I'd go with a modchip over Swap Magic. A chip is a little more expensive in the short run, but you'll never have to rebuild, shrink, or patch games. The three best chips or "big three" are the DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, and the Crystal Chip. With any of those chips you'll play your backups just like they're originals. Insert them in your PS2 and enjoy. They also have a ton of features which make your PS2 a very powerful machine.

    5. Q. What modchip should I get?
    A. Matrix Infinity, DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip Pro 1.1. The DMS 4 Pro SE has a HD Loader built into the flash and all the feature's you'd expect from a quality modchip, I recommend the DMS 4 SE Pro, because it has a 2MB flash built into the chip, and it's only about $10 more than the DMS 4 SE Lite. If you're interested in playing games off a HD, take a look at the DMS 4 Pro SE.
    link ]

The Matrix Infinity is the grandfather of auto boot modchips. It was the first modchip to auto boot backups/imports with no swapping/resetting. It's feature packed and simple to use. Matrix Chips are probably a little more durable than the other two, and extremely reliable. There are a lot of Matrix Infinity clones out there, make sure you order from one of the reputable installers listed in this thread.
    link ]

The Crystal Chip 1.1 is the latest contender to graduate to the top flight chip category. It is feature packed, simple to use, and effective. The CC auto patches DNA ID's so you'd never need to bother with Windip, Winimage, or Disc ID Insertor. Definitely recommended if you play your backups online alot. To boot backups/imports the Crystal Chip requires the use of "hacked" firmware. It's simply the official firmware modified so the chip can boot backups and imports. Everyone who uses the CC uses the hacked firmware, so fear not.

    CC 1.1 Hacked Firmware v.19: [ link ]

I personally have a Matrix Infinity and it works great. I have no regrets as to getting a modchip over Swap Magic. Once you have a quality modchip, you'll never go back to disc swapping again. It cost's a little more in the short term, but think of all the time you'll save rebuilding, shrinking DVD-9 to DVD-5, patching PAL games to NTSC, and the like. If you haven't noticed, most people who have trouble getting games to boot are Swap Magic users. This isn't nearly as frequent a problem for people who have modchips. Just some food for thought.

Note: v.12-14 PS2's will need a laser fix like the neo fix. This is necessary to keep the laser from burning out.

From KC36330, a professional modder and member of AD:

If your modder didn't install a laser fix then most likely your laser is now on its way out. All V12-V14 PS2's require the laser fix, especially modded consoles. Even a new unmodded slimline PS2 can burn the laser out in as little as a few hours of game play.

I'll have the pork chops... Annnnd... A bottle of your finnest red wine...

  • Pspness (24 Jan 2006 16:09)

alright, thanks looks like im makin my future games all Verbs. but i just got 1 question, are all verbatim dvd-r not cmc-mag?

  • Tokijin (24 Jan 2006 17:51)

Well you can't have Jessica Alba's porkchops, those are mine lol. I believe all Verb's are MCC nowadays. They lost business when it got out they switched to CMC Mag briefly. I wouldn't worry about them. They should work fine. I prefer TY's, but that's just me. Most people I've talked to agree TY is a little above Verb's. But they're both excellent.

  • Pspness (24 Jan 2006 19:42)

ok, thanks tokijin, you're the best when it comes to ps2 stuff

  • Tokijin (25 Jan 2006 18:53)

Thanks. I know alot, but certainly not everything. It's good to be wrong once in awhile, otherwise you never learn lol. Peace.

  • Pspness (25 Jan 2006 20:06)

Lol, i know lot 2, cuz of your thread, hahaha. Lata

  • Tokijin (25 Jan 2006 21:18)

Yeah the reason I say that is because I almost had a kid destroy his chip with bad advice. I told him to flash his Matrix S.E. (a POS Matrix Infinity clone) with the official MI firmware. That would've destroyed the chip. Fortunately, someone caught my mistake. I would've felt terrible if the kid flashed his chip and destroyed it on the count of my bad advice. I checked with a couple of modders and they confirmed that would've destroyed the chip. Oh well he didn't do it. Live and Learn.

  • Pspness (27 Jan 2006 11:15)

lol. yea, i wouldve felt real bad about that. Luck he didnt do it.

  • Tokijin (27 Jan 2006 18:10)

Yeah that would've sucked. There's plenty about the PS2 I don't know. Sometimes it's good to be wrong, it keeps the old ego in check. Cheers!

What's up i suck and pspness.

  • majindo (29 Jan 2006 2:51)

Greetings Tokijin & Pspness I was wondering if either of you have hd advance and if so what version i sold both ps2's the pre modded one and regular, bought lito on dvd burner from A$$mart i mean' Walmart, finally have my fav isos loaded,
DBZ Budokai 1 on disc, but DBZ budokai 3 DBZ tenkaichi, the punisher, shadow the hedgehog, prince of persia the 2 thrones, kill zone, the warriors etc my question is why do some games work only after playing another game??? like prince of persia i can only play after playing the punisher. which the punishment s very addictive.???

  • majindo (29 Jan 2006 2:57)

a true test of how fast ps2 reads and loads from hd is dbz budokai 3 a brand new disc at loading will make about 4-6 saibamen appear more if you rotate analog, a dirty or scratched one will make10-14 show up more if you rotate. hd advance can barely see the red eves on the frist one coming up out of the ground before match is ready.

one of the coolest inventions, but real question is if systems were 130 and all games $15-29.99 would modding, bootlegging and copying die out???

a real noodly scratcher there. Ned Flanders 3:16

  • majindo (29 Jan 2006 3:09)

DOes watching Inuyasha give any one else the sudden urge and craving for samurai sword???
wouldnt mind having a tetsaiga of my own or the tensaiga movie 3 Was Hard. makes you wanna sit back

  • fatjohnny (29 Jan 2006 6:24)

how do you burn ps1 games you downloaded off of bitcomet

  • Lethal_B (29 Jan 2006 7:45)

just to add to your misery, i couldnt be bothered to search. i have a ps2 and a modchip, what do I doooo neeext????

    o/j mate, lol

  • fatjohnny (29 Jan 2006 10:08)

can you download breaker pro and then use it with your swap magic?

  • Tokijin (29 Jan 2006 17:07)

LOL Lethal. I swear If I was less patient I would've gone postal by now. I love it when you tell someone to search and they come back with "well yeah, you're stupid." That basically confirms they're 15 years old lol.

@FatJohny Check my FAQ for good sites do download PSX games. It covers burning them as well. No you can't boot a backup of Breaker Pro with Swap Magic, only with an original copy or modchip.

@ Majindo No I don't have HD Advance. If I wanted it, I would simply download it and install it to my MC with Infinity Boot Manager. The Matrix Infinity allows you to boot .elf files off the MC and supports loading games from an External HD. It also auto ATAD pathches your HD, meaning you could use any compatible IDE Hard Drive, not just a Sony one. The older Sony ones suck, because most are limited to 40GB's. I believe HD Advance 3.0 supports HD's up to 200GB's. I am a big Inuyasha fan. I watch it in Jap, uncut with Eng subtitles. I can't stand English dubbing of anime, most of the voice acting is terrible. I have all 167 episodes and 4 movies. The third movie is pretty sick, definitely the best one. I am a huge Sesshomaru fan, and that has him vs. Inuyasha, Sesshy wielding the Tetsuaiga against Inuyasha, shows their father, and has them join forces against Sorunga. My favorite episodes in the series are when they join forces against Naraku. Not coincidentally, those are the only times he is almost killed.

  • Tokijin (01 Feb 2006 17:52)

    54. Q. I download PS2 games, music, and TV shows all the time. How do I keep from getting sued or receiving threatening emails?
    A. Peer Guardian 2 is your best bet. It blocks around 65 million known IP addresses from companies which are paid to monitor your download habits. You're never completely safe. The only way to avoid getting sued or receiving threatening emails is to not download any copyrighted material. Now if people were actually arrested for this, everyone in this forum would be getting cozy in a jail cell with this guy:

Get Peer Guardian 2 here: [ link ]

What do you mean build images from HD? Do you mean ripping the game to your HD? I use Alcohol 120%/DVD Decrypter to burn my PS2 games. I use NeroVision to convert movie files to DVD, Shrink a DVD-9 movie to DVD-5 with Nero Recode 2, and I burn my movies with Nero Burning ROM. I don't use it for PS2 backups though. My Nero Start Smart doesn't work correctly, because I "acquired" it. If you like action games, check out San Andreas, God of War, Devil May Cry 1 and 3, Gun, Genji:Dawn of Samurai, and Resident Evil 4.

  • Pspness (01 Feb 2006 18:27)

my nero startsmart is great, cuz i "bought" a serial. lol wow, i never knew you could use nero to make advd-5 to a dvd-5

  • majindo (01 Feb 2006 19:30)

i am not an rpg type of person one of my best friends always liked the final fantasy series. what i truly disliked is that developers know what the character will say so why do i have to read their dialogue. its annoying. i have 2 friends that flip flop between x box and the ps2 one prepurchased his x box 360 through gamestop and now has to wait for something. im only impressed with the 360's graphics ps2 still has alot to offer me and now that i have discovered the hda a tear almost comes to the eye***
i dont argue about which system is better i feel that both have good titles. sony and developers brought the pain to microsoft. i dont say its the system i feel the burden is on the developers to push the systems to the limits to show true gamers the extent of a systems power. only rpg that ive really played is final fantasy ten a good story line and twists galore finished by an ending that isnt obviously expected. in my book of games i give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars/ thumbs/ game controllers etc and this is for a genre that i dont get into.oh yeah the characters talk somewhat and in a brief cutscene i saw a glimpse of what i hope graphics on the ps3 to look like scene where yuna and titus talk while standing by some water moonlit sky and almost looking like true to life asian people..*** in a word awesome

  • majindo (01 Feb 2006 19:34)

have nero K vision 3 came with lite E on downloaded a Y fix from nero website G supposed to E fix image N building problems
my problems with dvd burner started after jan when next nero 7 trial came out but im all better now played and beat all except for dmc 3 dmc 1&2 were good dmc 2 had odd ending 4 dante should be in hell with no limit to demon power. and all upgrades.
want to get gun 4 hda 3.0 my nerves may not be able to take res evil any brand i dont like the slow moving characters.
oddly enough the nasty demons from devil may cry did not bother me too much gtg to sleep gotta be up for work by 6 peace and happy gaming. ill find out about the recode later and is dmc 3 a dvd9 game???

  • Tokijin (01 Feb 2006 20:40)

Yeah I found out about Nero Recode 2 recently myself. I was using DVD Shrink, but NR2 is faster and better quality. The guy who designed Nero Recode 2 is the same guy who wrote DVD Shrink. He just makes money now lol. Nero Recode 2 doesn't get around copy protected discs, so you have to use with AnyDVD, DVD43, or some other form of copy right circumvention. I never use Nero Start Smart, I just go straight to Burning ROM, or whatever else I need. Nero is great, but it's very expensive. If you think I paid for Nero, Alcohol 120%, with no job on a full time school schedule, then you probably believe in the tooth fairy as well.

  • majindo (02 Feb 2006 7:15)

  • majindo (02 Feb 2006 7:19)

i really want to get marvel vs capcom 2 again and play the first part on ps2 4 the 1st time

  • Tokijin (02 Feb 2006 12:44)

I go online usually in the evenings. I try to get out and do stuff as well. Can't be on AD all day. Maybe there'll be a Ms. Tokijin in the picture here soon, I gotta spend less time on AD. That and I've got midterms in a month, research projects, and study guides to catch up on. I also need to find a job. I had Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on DC, it was a fun game. All my friends would sit around, drink beer, and play it for hours. I never bothered to get it for PS2. The Marvel vs. Capcom aspect of it was fun. Where else can you get Mega Man vs Colussus?

  • Pspness (02 Feb 2006 15:17)

lol, yea i cant find marvel vs capcom2 for ps2 anywhere. cool, ms tokijin soon, lol.

  • majindo (02 Feb 2006 15:25)

peer guardian 2 works good. got a nasty letter from cable about a program on hd they turned off my cable for a few hours
those sattelite hating ba$tards all is well in the land of west city tonite a saiyan prince sleeps amongst us...

  • Tokijin (02 Feb 2006 18:25)

Yeah I've never had that issue. I've only downloaded Deadwood Season 1 and 2. It's not that uncommon though. Companies are definitely watching. That's where Peer Guardian 2 comes in. Just finished downloading FFX International. The PAL version has the Dark Aeons and Pennance, mega difficult bosses that weren't in the NTSC US release.

  • Pspness (03 Feb 2006 13:50)

her tokijin, are Ritek's good? someof the memorex's i have that i never open are ritekf1. i dont know if they're good or not

  • Tokijin (03 Feb 2006 17:19)

Ritek's are okay. I used RitekG05's for backing up movies with good results. I switched to Sony's, I haven't used any yet though. You lucked out and got some non horrible Memosux. You're lucky you didn't end up with CMC Mag.

  • Pspness (03 Feb 2006 18:16)

hahah memosux. I bought a total of probably 5 50 pack memorex dvd-r. 3 of them were CMC MaG, i reallly got lucky with these 2.

  • Tokijin (03 Feb 2006 20:00)

Yeah I just backed up Sopranos season 5 vol. 1 on Sony DVD-R's. It had 9 PIF's max. By contrast my TY's usually have 5 PIF"s max.

  • Pspness (03 Feb 2006 21:22)

this may sound dumb, but that exactly is a PIF?

  • Tokijin (03 Feb 2006 23:36)

Parity Inner Failure. I don't exactly know what they are either, but the more of them, the more likely your disc will skip or lag.

  • Pspness (04 Feb 2006 7:25)

ok, i gotta check for those next time

  • Tokijin (04 Feb 2006 20:15)

Yeah you can scan your disc quality with things like Nero CD/DVD Speed. It's a useful app. I scan my backups just to get an idea how they'll play. It's not necessary, it's just an added quality check. There's info about it towards the bottom of my FAQ. It's supports most newer DVD Burners.

the web will be cut soon enough. lol

  • Tokijin (08 Feb 2006 17:53)

*Dragon Destruction Wave* Tokijin severs the web and rededicates himself to helping AD users "backup" PS2 games. I started downloading Tales of Legendia, it's about a 1/3 of the way done. It should be done by Friday or Saturday. Definitely looking forward to that one. I need to finish DQVIII so I can start a new game in TOL. I think I'll lay down for a couple hours and enjoy playing it later on. Cheers!

  • rav009 (09 Feb 2006 9:16)

im going to say hi to everyone so... HI!! : )

  • Tokijin (09 Feb 2006 9:37)

Hi rav0009. You guys ever get banned from PS2NFO.com? Well I have. I admit I don't care about their site and didn't bother to read their rules. Here's a copy of an email I sent them. I'll post any responses I get from them as well:

Your site is gay. I gauruntee I know more about PS2 backups and modding than 95% of the people on your site. You IP ban people for engaging in legitimate conversation about backing up games? It's funny that you guys have an elititst attitude towards other forums, when most of the knowledgeable PS2 users are on other sites. I mean it's okay for you to have a web based email account, but you require members to have an ISP based webmail account? Huh it's laughable. So is your site. Don't bother responding to this email, it's not worth my time to read what you tools have to say. I'll be busy helping people on other sites. Cheers!

  • Pspness (09 Feb 2006 11:36)

hahah, thats great, but ive never been banned from it.

  • Tokijin (09 Feb 2006 17:17)

Yeah I read through their forums and was like, uh these people are retarded. There's few knowledgeable users there that I could see. I'd put the heavy hitters from AD up against their's anyday. Hursty singlehandedly could topple all their supposed experts. Maybe I'm just bitter lol. Oh no what a loss, I'll spend my nights on AD as usual, and be quite content with that.

  • Tokijin (09 Feb 2006 20:05)

So any of you guys have girlfriends to spend Valentine's Day with? I have no Girlfriend, so this isn't a trick question or anything.

  • Pspness (10 Feb 2006 11:07)

nope, no girlfriend for me. i got to a predominatly african american school, and the girls there dont like to date out of race, which is cool, but i do like a few of them but no go for me.

  • rav009 (10 Feb 2006 12:27)

    edit

  • Tokijin (10 Feb 2006 15:41)

Yeah that's cool. I've kinda dated black chicks before. There was a black chick I was real interested in over the Summer, but it just didn't work out. She never called. :( I don't really care about race when it comes to dating. If you like somebody then that's all that matters. No fat chicks though lol. She has to be attractive, at least to me. 400lb women just don't do it for me. Cheers!

  • Pspness (10 Feb 2006 17:05)

yea, i like all kinds, but all kinds dont like me

  • Tokijin (10 Feb 2006 22:45)

Yeah I suppose if we had girlfriends, we wouldn't be on AD as much lol. God my post count here is getting ridiculous. My problem isn't being shy, I'm probably too outgoing. I've always been a good public speaker and quick wit. I think I intimidate girls or something. I'm pretty intelligent and very opinionated, so maybe that's why. It's funny, one of my professor's is a web nerd like me, and we get along great lol. Anyway happy Valentine's Day to all us single gents. May beautiful women and good times be in our future. Cheers!

  • rav009 (11 Feb 2006 8:40)

    edit

  • Pspness (11 Feb 2006 10:00)

  • rav009 (11 Feb 2006 10:15)

    ......

  • gloglebag (11 Feb 2006 12:21)

Hey tokijin, about your guide to rip and burn scratched DVD's. Well I have a couple badly burned ps2 games. For example tekken 5. In that game everything works fine, the game plays fine, the CGI video's play fine, but the sound constantly stutters, or stops for a fraction of a second, in the cgi movies. I have the same in other games, plus in some games the sound is not syncronised with the video. Now My question is, is it possible to use the same techniek you use with alcohol 120% to rip and burn scratched DVD's, with these kind of discs and if I do it right will the new dvd be fine, without any soundstuttering, skipping.

If it can be done then, I have a few questions about the the way in which you said you should rip the dvd's with alcohol 120%.
    Cause you wrote this:

    Use these instructions:
    88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?
    A. Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:
    1. Insert your disc.
    2. Open Alcohol 120%.
    3. Click Image Making Wizard.
    4. Check Ignore read errors, select your recorder, leave the never seperate box alone.
    5. Click Next. Select a destination for the game. Click Start.
Once the process is complete, you'll get an mds and an mdf file. Click finish, if necessary.

Now Here is a link to what I see when I select image making wizard, [ link ]

and I do not see any option for "never separate box"
Tell me would it be OK if I just selected all those option present there, would that just make it take longer to rip the dvd or would it screw it up. Cause time is not a problem for me, and if the safest way to rip is simply to turn all the options on then I do not mind it.

Anyway thnx in advance for your help.

  • Tokijin (11 Feb 2006 17:28)

Yeah sadly I was once a wannabe thug. I hung around with small time hoods, kids that were in and out of prison for stealing/violating probation. One of them ended up getting shot and killed over some BS, the other is still in and out jail. I've long since severed any ties with kids like that. It's good though, when people see me they think, sheltered white kid, so they underestimate my street smarts. That shit teaches you alot, it's not good to be too sheltered. Some of us just need to learn life lessons the hard way. As a remnant of those days, I still listen to a lot of Rap and R&B. More R&B, Rap can make me angry if I listen to it too much.

@ gloglebag It looks like you're trying to backup a CD-ROM based game. When backing up a DVD-ROM based game, there is no datatype box. The never Seperate box only appears when backing up a DVD-ROM. Your copy is only as good as your original, so if the original is badly scratched, the copy make skip in some places where you get massive read errors. The copy may play fine to a certain point then skip (especially FMV scenes), it still should be playable in most instances. You may have to skip over the one area where it lags badly. I've had several experiences with scratched games, because a lot of my backups are "acquired" from places where the discs are horribly scratched.

  • Tokijin (12 Feb 2006 2:06)

Oops I accidentally trashed that comment by Pspness, my bad. Yeah it was funny. I dunno I can get a little too into the thug aspect of it. Especially when driving. I yell at people a lot when I drive anyway. I don't need to add to it. It's weird I feel like I have a highly intelligent side, which is mainly expressed here on AD, and then I have my ghetto side, which comes out when people piss me off. Eh I'm sure I'm not the only person like that. Yeah a dude I used to hang around with all the time got shot and killed. He was a waste of space and a thief. But he didn't deserve to be killed. Some kids were trying to steal the CD player out of his car outside of the house the was living in at the time. He and his buddies caught them and beat the hell out of them with some baseball bats. The kids were like 18 and 24, and I don't believe they knew him. So after they got done beating the kids, about an hour the two came back. They had a gun. They shot and killed the dude who owned the house and the kid I used to hang around with. I was kind of indifferent when I first heard the news. Ironically, my "friend" had stolen the CD player out of my car. I knew he did it, but I didn't retaliate because I knew if I did my family would be in danger. In time I came to feel sorry for him. It was a sad story. He made his choices and he had to live with them. He had ripped off enough people that somebody was going to come for him eventually. But he ended up getting killed over some stupid shit. That's life. If any good came out of it, I learned the folly of hanging around with people like that.

  • MaxBurn (12 Feb 2006 21:59)

    Hey there Tokijin!
Yeah, ive been in some rough spots too, and most of the time the way i got there was the friends i was hanging with got me in to trouble, or brought me along as back-up as i usually packed the firepower if the deal went bad.. Kinda strange being in a room full of gangsters and being the only white guy there, but thats the way things go sometimes.. Ya get good at blending in, or becoming invisible..
Yeah, anybody who has been in these types of situations knows its not fun or glamorus,, and its usually a short, hard life, over way before it should be.
Good thing you got out when you did.

  • rav009 (12 Feb 2006 23:26)

So all of you are out of business?

well its for the best is'nt it, i mean its not going to get you is it...

  • Tokijin (13 Feb 2006 17:25)

I was never in the thug business lol, I just hung around with kids that were. The extent of my criminal activity was drinking, smoking, and stealing beer from stores. Nowadays I keep to my myself, backup PS2 games and movies, go to school for Social Work, and hang out on AD.

  • rav009 (14 Feb 2006 0:23)

  • Tokijin (14 Feb 2006 16:15)

Yeah it was terrible, I robbed the gas station next to my house 20-30 times. Fortunately I stopped drinking a couple years ago.

  • rav009 (15 Feb 2006 7:55)

ok now Tokijn robbing gas is one thing..but from a gas station thats next to your house LOL..man, could you even drive when you did that??

  • freezeit (15 Feb 2006 11:04)

Tokijin how helping me with my thread title Help. Happy to hear you'hv stop drinking....and beccame an AD Addict instead.

  • Pspness (15 Feb 2006 11:40)

lol stealing beers. great. id steal sprite.

  • Tokijin (15 Feb 2006 19:17)

Okay enough talk of my sordid oast lol. I don't know how I got on that subject. Nowadays I spend time going to school, hanging out on AD, backing up DVD's, and downloading PS2 games. No more jackassery for me. So what games have you downloaded/backed up recently? Cheers!

  • Pspness (15 Feb 2006 19:24)

ive rented Bulletproof from blockbuster and copied that. i tried to get sonic heroes, but i can figure out the whole swapmagicfix thing. anyone care to help me? i cant seem to find the dummy file listed that i need.

  • Tokijin (16 Feb 2006 2:10)

Lol. Glad to see some AD Addicts hanging round here. I'm lost and it's my own shoutbox. I was up most of the night writing a modchip FAQ. God I need to find a woman lol.

@Pspness, you don't necessarily need to find the dummy file for Sonic heroes. There isn't really a "Swap Magic Fix" so to speak, the fix is you use DVD Loader or Zone Loader as an extra swap disc to boot your backup. You use CD Loader if it's a CD-ROM based PS2 backup. DVD Loader only works with Swap Magic 2.0 and only with v.1-7 PS2's. I'm not sure which version PS2 Zone Loader works with. You insert your Swap Magic disc, use it to boot Zone Loader or DVD Loader, then swap in your backups.

  • 3dluis (17 Feb 2006 3:14)

Tokijin, I've alwayz wondered, who's the blue guy in your sig, one with the blue hair, and if you like DBZ, why dont you have a pic of DBZ instead of that blue guy lol

  • Tokijin (17 Feb 2006 5:15)

The blue guy is Sesshomaru from Inuyasha. He's Inuyasha's older brother. He's a full blooded demon who can turn into a huge dog demon. I get shit for liking Inuyasha, because I'm older. It's popular on Adult Swim, but I watch it in Japanese uncut. I like DBZ, the reason I don't have it in my sig, is because I I love the fighting, but hate the plot. There is no plot to DBZ, so it can't be compared to actual good anime. The fighting is awesome, so it'll always have a place in my heart. Berserk, RahXephon, and Escaflowne are some of my all time fav animes. I also like Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Last Exile, Serial Experiment Lain, HellSing, and Evangelion (haven't seen it yet). RahXephon is my all time favorite. It's a classic.

  • 3dluis (17 Feb 2006 7:27)

Lol, well at least you don't like Narato, that look's really gay, never seen it though :D.

  • Pspness (17 Feb 2006 8:47)

nevermind - i got it woo hoo

  • Tokijin (17 Feb 2006 19:17)

Yeah Naruto looks terrible on Cartoon Network. I'm sure it's much better uncut without the horrible Engilsh dubbing. English dubbed voices ruin anime for me. I have to watch it in Japanese, uncut. They always have the high pitched child like voices that make me want to sever my ears with a cheese grater. They're not nearly as bad in Japanese, in my opinion.

  • 3dluis (18 Feb 2006 1:55)

Btw, Can I ask, I'm trying to rip MEtal Gear Solid Substance for a long time, I have manage to put both layers onto my harddrive from the iso. Now I need to hex it, You have any expierience in hexing, I need to know how to overwrite the numbers, or else if I insert it wont work. Also if you have a full copy of WinHEX and would like to share, I'd be very happy :D. Also Is it possible to get Nero Vision 4 for free??

  • Tokijin (18 Feb 2006 3:16)

I can't help ya with Hex editing, sorry. As far as getting Nero 7 for free, you can figure that one out. *Cough P2P Cough*

  • Tokijin (18 Feb 2006 18:41)

Alright. A lot of my friends were in town for the weekend. It was good to see them, but I was reminded of my decision to quit drinking/smoking. They all headed to the club, and I was like okay, later. No point in going to a bar/club sober. One of those things where your old self confronts your new self. It's kinda hard to describe unless you've been through it personally.

  • 3dluis (19 Feb 2006 0:59)

Limewire PRO doesnt have it, Any Idea's which p2p has, put it this way, What's your best P2P Software you use??

  • Tokijin (20 Feb 2006 16:10)

That's where I got mine. You want to download Nero 7, Nero Vision is a part of Nero 7 Ultra. You can't get it seperately that I'm aware of. Search for Nero or Nero 7 on LW Pro. I just downloaded the newest version of LW Pro via BT.

  • Pspness (20 Feb 2006 19:14)

i just downloaded the demo version, and use a keygen, there a specific keygen tho, ParAdox keygen for nero 7 goes out after a while

  • Tokijin (22 Feb 2006 5:36)

Well, I can't sleep and I have class in 6 hours. You haven't lived until you've sat through Social Work Research Methods class on 1 hour of sleep. It's quite invigorating. Anyway cheers all. Maybe some random 12 year old will pop up in my shout box and start a flame war.

  • Pspness (22 Feb 2006 16:05)

    hahahahha

  • majindo (23 Feb 2006 19:54)

Maybe you could help me find out about an anime that i saw a few years as a pilot involved a young man that didnt know much about his heritage his birthright was some kinda glove that amplified his powers it was pretty hot one memorable episode was when his uncle stole it but something about his DNA didnt allow him to use it and the glove twisted to cruch his hand. oh yeah his mom used some kinda crystal ball type orb to get rid of the agents pursuing them and demolish their cliff top home overlooking ocean. the animation looks remniscient of the blue seed animes

  • majindo (23 Feb 2006 19:56)

oh yeah and what is the title of the new inuyasha movie i know i saw it in walmart but i like japanese i think it will be the fourth movie.

  • Tokijin (23 Feb 2006 21:31)

Is the third Inuyasha movie even out over here? Most translations I have for the third movie label it "The Sword of World Conquest." A lot of Japanese doesn't translate exactly to English. I'm not sure what the fourth movie is called, I haven't even watched it yet.

  • Tokijin (25 Feb 2006 4:11)

I finally got my BitTorrent settings to where they should be. I switched to ”torrent and started using private trackers. I've download Fight Night Round 3, Drakengard 2, Marc Ecko's Getting Up, and State of Emergency 2 in the last couple days. I get an average of about 120kB's/sec and they finish in 4 hours or so. I talked to KC36330 and he helped me get my settings off and running. What kind of speeds do you guys get when downloading games?

  • Pspness (25 Feb 2006 9:50)

before i used to get speeds of about 120, than it just went ploop down to like 30-40, that sucks

  • 3dluis (26 Feb 2006 6:13)

Mine always goes at 30 kb/s for some reason, But I'm paying for a 1mb connection, shouldnt it be higher??

  • majindo (26 Feb 2006 11:04)

has any of you guys ever cracked your modem/router and changed the thresholds??? that may work to get aconsistently high speed word of warning if you have an old nic card you may want to try but if you uses a $20 gigabit card it may not be necessary but always worth the try. also see warez p2p. not as good as some but has results that i like

  • majindo (26 Feb 2006 11:10)

cable net service 4mbps max with nothing but time on my hands i cracked the 12.5% mark in windows task manager networking viewing window p2p plus download.com downloads, media streaming and a couple uploads. just to see what was what with my connection and also this year/ 2006 bought a nic card from walmart for about 15 dollars as my old one was more than 4 years old.

  • Tokijin (26 Feb 2006 13:54)

@ 3D Luis You should be getting closer to 80-100kB's. Your BT Client's settings probably aren't right or your using public trackers. What client are you using?

@Pspness Same goes to you. You guys should go to here and do a speed test: [ link ]

Report your findings back. If I can get this right, I might do a guide on it. Make sure you include your average download speed and upload speed.

@Majindo I'm not sure what you're referring to. I've used Dr TCP and similar apps to adjust my MTU's, black hole time and what not, but I've never done what you're talking about.

  • Pspness (26 Feb 2006 15:37)

    sure thing, waiting results now

  • Pspness (26 Feb 2006 15:39)

heres a screenshot of my test

  • 3dluis (27 Feb 2006 7:02)

Well I was asking Tiscali (My Broadband Provider) before like 1 year ago and said, why isnt my speed getting faster, they said cause my local area doesnt support the speed, But they have done a recent upgrade in my area and it still is the same. My P2P Programs are -

-Limewire PRO (Mostly I use this)
    -Shareaza

  • Tokijin (27 Feb 2006 16:05)

Okay Pspness. You have very similar speeds to my own. You must have a 1.5MB DSL connection as well. First download utorrent. [ link ]

Install it, use the Network setup guide and forward your ports and what not if need be. Go to Options-->Preferences-->Torrent Options Set your options to the following:

Global Maximum Number of Connections of Connections- 250
Number of Connected Peers per torrent- 100
Number of Upload slots per torrent- 4
Max number of active torrents- 3
Max number of active downloads- 2
Set your upload speed to 25 kB's/sec

This will improve your overall speed. If you really want to download at 120+ kB's/sec for every game, you need to start using private trackers. They have a ton more seeds, a lot better seeder/leecher ratio, and better trackers than public trackers. Some private trackers are torrentleech.com, bitsoup.org, torrentbytes.net, demonoid.com, and torrenit.com. You have to sign up. Membership is limited, so you either need to get in when you can, or get an invite from someone who's a member. I have 0 invites from any of these sites, so sorry you're on your own there. Once you get in a private tracker, you should see dramatically better speeds.

@3DLuis Take the Speed test and post your results. Then I can try to help you.

  • MaxBurn (27 Feb 2006 23:05)

@3DLuis Google for a speed test in the UK (or w/e you are). Then post the results. I may add the FIFA Street question, either way thanks for the info.

ok what im talking abt if you r using a p2p client like i know you all are search under document or google it about removi8ng limits from modem or card i stumbled acropss tis information back in my days of using narrowband 56k the highest consistent d/l speed i got w/ 56k modem was abt 5-13k and that was only with ownloads coming straight from some server somewhere like downloading a dbz episode to me it was only good to d/l mp3's but the info i am referring to is after i got dsl and still had a higher craving for speed. there is a program you can dl and use to do this to take the guess work out of settings also how i found out how to make emulate the same modem to another location, free dsl. only problem line has to be activated. works great for peeps in apt buildings etc cough** cough**

Tokijin if you are still on please put up the link for the hda game compat list i have scoured my history in comp and ad forum , you dont know how much money visine can make off of me right this moment.

  • majindo (01 Mar 2006 7:10)

please ignore hda compat issue. page was listed as something else in favorites sorry. so happy have more games than i can play right now . havent touched 25 to life yet, or the matrix path of neo fight night round 3 is ok but it seems that wrestling games are getting stale and actions worse yet the ideas and new titles always seem fresh???

  • Tokijin (01 Mar 2006 20:23)

Yeah I sadly I've become an AD addict quickly. I'm almost 2,000 posts past being an AD addict now lol. That's not enough info 3DLuis, I can't tell from that exactly what you need to, try to find a speed test that posts your downstream and upstream speed. If you have a 1MB broadband connection, you should be getting better speed than 13.7 kB's/sec.

  • 3dluis (02 Mar 2006 7:58)

Can You give me a link to a site that gives a good full diagnosist of my speed test

  • Tokijin (02 Mar 2006 18:52)

Dunno 3DLuis, look around. Majindo, I don't know much about the Max Drive. Pspness or someone familiar with it can help you. A member named Jjax is pretty familar with ARMAX, you may want to contact him.

    Hi there,

We rented Kessen 3 and tried to copy it using Sonic digital Media 7 to a dual layer DVD, but an error popped up when transferring it onto the DVD. Do you have any suggestions? We didn't use any of the PS2 softwares to reduce the file sizes or anything, we're still kinda new to this. From reading the various threads, we're not sure if it's necessary to use a program or if you just straight copy it.Could you help out - thanks.

    superman123x@hotmail.com

  • majindo (05 Mar 2006 18:03)

tokijin what is your ranking sys for the p2p programs floating around out there where do they stand in your eyes.
kazaa, morpheus, warez, lime wie torent bitorent??? bear share gnutella winmx etc etc

  • Tokijin (06 Mar 2006 9:17)

Haven't checked ye olde shoutbox lately, just been busy or apathetic. Anyway here goes...

@3DLuis Hmmm Something's awry. Either your bandwidth/DSL/firewall settings are killing your download speeds. With a 1 MB DSL connection you should get a max download speed around 130 kB's/sec max. You may have a router/firewall issue. Those download speeds are way too slow for a 1MB connection. Download utorrent and go to options--> speed guide-->Test if port is forwarded properly. That'll tell you if you need to forward some ports.

@ treehugge The only way you can make a straight burn of Kessen to DL media is with a modchip that supports DVD-9 (Dual Layer) backups like the DMS 4, Matrix Infinity, or Crystal Chip 1.1. If you're using Swap Magic, you'd need to download the Kessen 3 ripkit and downsize the game to a single layer. What kind of method are you using to boot your backups?

@ ViciousL Be patient. Email them and see what the delay is about. [ link ]
Most likely they're just busy with mods. Business has been booming for them of late, and one guy (Davbere) does the majority of their mods. He's excellent and highly skilled at what he does. I'm sure you'll hear back from them soon. If not contact me and I'll see what I can do.

@ majindo I use ”torrent for downloading PS2 games and apps. I've recently "acquired" the most recent version of
Alcohol 120% and Limewire Pro 4.10.9. I use LW Pro for music/software downloads. I use BT for movies, games, etc. I'd say the best option, is a combo of the two. Newsgroups are very fast and should allow you to download at your max download speed, but most of the good ones cost money. The same goes for warez sites. A friend of mine paid $22 for 3 months of downloads from a warez site. On the other hand, P2P is free and so is BitTorrent. If you use either to download music and movies, be sure you use Peer Guardian 2: [ link ]

i use utorrent now, its f'n great

  • Tokijin (10 Mar 2006 0:25)

That's weird. I'd just try uninstalling and downloading it again 3DLuis. It sounds like you may have gotten a bad download. I've gotten speeds well over 100kB's while using torrentleech.com. It seems to be the best private tracker by a long shot. If I ever get any invites, I'll let you know.

  • majindo (10 Mar 2006 6:41)

im not sure that i am using u torrent or bittorrent the correct way the links show upo in the box to be downloaded but nothin happens i dont know if im doing it correctly or if the files are not available but i like limewire better than warez only thing that warez p2p has that is betteri sbuilt in media player, downloads show your file time length and can get i think up to 4-500Kbps dl spd at a time, depends on connection, cable with 4 mbps. that is with diferent dl's limewire i feel is more reliable and has better results im getting tired of my dell i am burning and converting movies and files with a 1.60ghz pentium 4 processor and 196 mb of ram do yiou know where anyone sells 512MB sdram pcc 133 for the cheap, i like tiger direct prices but i feel that if i invest in one that maybe i should just build a whole other pc and step up the the 3.0 GHZ pentium processor and the 2 gig ram. and start playing like a big boy. i like the idea of vista from what the advertising says but after reading the link i think it may be best to either run xp pro or win 98-2003 have xp home now and it is a pain in the rear to do alot of what you do with ease with pro.

  • majindo (10 Mar 2006 6:45)

i wonder if there is a way to acquire pro and upgrade home without losing anything only problem is that when you have to get a windows update they always check for your os authenticity. never a dull loophole.

  • majindo (10 Mar 2006 6:50)

@ PSPNESS thanks for the comment abt maxdrive i dont believe i will be getting my hand s on one of those. so i guess that ultimate destruction will not be beaten by me. i started on the matrix path of neo, just so happens that with HDA 3 prince of persia sands of time will not work unless i trigger it with another title. i thought it may have been a coincidence when i played shadow the hedgehog but i see now every time i play the matrix prince of persia will come on load up and play with no problem.

  • SM1985 (10 Mar 2006 14:54)

What's Up!? I was wondering about how to solve the problem of burning College Hoops 2K6 for PS2. That booktyping thing doesn't apply to HP DVD Burner from what I've tried through DVD Decrypter. I hardly managed to shrink the .iso file. Take a look at [ link ] to see what I mean. I briefly got the game to work, but now it just is stuck on a black screen in the beginning. Have no idea why it worked the first time and not anyother time and even when it worked it didn't run too smoothly. What should I do? Thanks!

  • Pspness (10 Mar 2006 20:29)

YES, if you ever get any torrentleech invites, please! lol

EDit- wooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! im in! you gotta sign up early!

  • 3dluis (10 Mar 2006 22:42)

I tried to foward some ports for uTorrent with no avail, still 30kb/s...

  • Tokijin (11 Mar 2006 3:18)

@ Majindo I dunno where you can find SDRAM that old. I ordered mine off crucial.com, but I don't think they go back that far. I have a gig of DDR PC2700. It's pretty fast, I can't use less than a gig anymore. Any faster would probably fry my mobo. I've read some pretty shady things about Tigerdirect, they have several complaints on file with the better business bureau. 128MB's is the bare minimum with XP, the bare minimum for a power user is 512MB's. Anything less than that is running in slow mo. I'd recommend against a hacked OS, who knows what issues that may cause down the road. You can get a copy of XP Homo... er Home edition for $100. That's what I run.

@ SM1985 What's the Media ID of those Maxells? If they're made in Taiwan, god knows what manufacturer they are. Could be anything from Ritek to CMC Mag. If they're the High Grade MIJ Maxell's, they're some of the best media around. Download DVD Identifier and post the results. [ link ]

@3DLuis You probably are behind a router or firewall. Try a speed test at [ link ]
You have DSL, so chances are you have a router. Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Network and Internet Connections-->Network Connections-->and right click the connection you use to get online. Click properties. Then the Wireless Networks tab. Click view available Wireless networks. That should tell you what kind of router you have. Post the results or simply go here to figure out how to configure your ports for BitTorrent. [ link ]

@ Pspness You think afterdawn is fun, try attempting to help people with no links. Torrentleech only allows you to post links from a handful of sites, none of which are useful for the PS2. So you have to explain stuff in depth, then you can't tell people where to find the programs or info they need. It's quite a challenge, definitely not for the feint of heart. Oh well their forums are a new challenge. Cheers all!

  • majindo (11 Mar 2006 14:35)

well like i said dell is pretty craptacular the only original thins i have on it are the mobo, orig 128 mem, floppy and dvd rom samsun. had to get new dvd dl burner lite on old io magic stopped recognizing blank dvd's and dvd- media. i like the lite on drive and dvd shrink is an eye opener. a dream come true but with such low mem encoding is a pain in the a$$ need to know is there any way to shrink an svcd i was told that dvd shrink would allow burining of files onto a cdr. no such luck i can get the files under 700 mb but now what. i think that hard drives are about to take a price plunge. read online about new technology that makes one look a little closer at startrek. www.physorg.com/news785.html - 40k colossalstorage.net/home.htm Colossal StorageColossal Storage Corporation is actively engaged in the development of a certain unique and proprietary Atomic Holographic Optical Storage Nanotechnology ...

check out those links or search online through google for colossal storage
im sure its probably for commercial applications but it could men good news for power
users etc. 500 Gb Hard drive under $99 or is it wishful thinking

  • majindo (11 Mar 2006 14:42)

that ps3 tester link is bogus scam scam scam. hurt feelings were all that were realized on an unusually warm saturday night as a pc user with hopes of a free ps3 was smacked in the face with ads and offers. was it a rude awakening no more of a wool and denim blend blindfold as guided across an eight lane interstate in flip flop pool slippers by a blind arthritic chihuahua.

  • Pspness (11 Mar 2006 19:16)

got that right. i hate the wait times. also i solved my Fight night rd 3 problem. turns out it doesnt like my Vebatims. but i like my memosux that are riteks.

  • majindo (11 Mar 2006 20:19)

i still have to get used to fight night round 3 wasnt really much of a boxing fan but with hda i just couldnt pass it up. any one played socom 3 yet???

  • Pspness (12 Mar 2006 7:05)

ok, scratch that. i dont think swap magic likes Fight night. its freakin gay.

  • Tokijin (12 Mar 2006 17:15)

Time to get move up to the pros Pspness and get a chip. No more swapping, and play your backups just like originals. Are you using 16x Verb's? I've read that 16x Verb's give people some issues. I don't recommend 16x media in general for the PS2, too many mixed results. Fight Night Round 3 is cool, I have no interest in boxing, but hey the price was right. Dunno Majindo, sounds like it's time to build a new PC, finances permitting. My current PC will last me through college, but after that, I'm definitely building a nice one from scratch. Cheers!

  • Pspness (12 Mar 2006 17:18)

yea, i tihnk its time to get a a chip. sell my swap magic to my friends or sumthin. yea im usin 16x verbs.
after i make my money sellin my power rangers dvd's. ill have a modchip in no time

  • Tokijin (12 Mar 2006 17:22)

I think the 16x media is the issue. Alkohol told me that 16x Verb's cause his PS2 some issues. He has an excellent knowlege of media and burning, so I take him at his word. Try some 4x or 8x Verb's, and definitely look into getting a chip, it'll be like falling in love with the PS2 all over again.

  • Pspness (12 Mar 2006 19:09)

DMS 4 Pro SE here i come!...whenever i get the money. teammodders.com is the best place right?

  • Tokijin (12 Mar 2006 23:49)

Yeah they're the best place to start. The DMS 4 Pro SE is a great chip. That's definitely what I'd have if I didn't have an MI. Way back when, when I first got my PS2 chipped, I originally wanted a DMS 4 Pro. Davbere installed three different chips in my v.4 PS2, but each one would produce the occassional black screen at boot up. That wasn't acceptable, so he switched in an MI, and the rest is history. It turns out the black screen issue was a rare bug with DMS chips and older mobos, according to their forums. The MI may not have as many features integrated into its firmware, but it's a lot more stable than DMS chips according to most modders I've talked to. DMS chips are great, just a little picky at times. It certainly shouldn't be an issue that should stop you from getting a DMS 4 Pro SE, it's a fantastic chip. In the hands of a knowledgeable user, its power is amazing. These bugs are minor glitches in the code, and mainly plague novices. Something that's not mentioned much is that almost every chip will produce the RSOD on occasion, like 3% of the time. This is nothing to be alarmed about, simply a fact of life. You've got to remember that the PS2 is doing something it's not meant to do, boot backups and imports. Anyway yeah the DMS 4 Pro SE is a great chip, I love the concept of a HD Loader program built right into Toxic OS. They're working on an open source HD Loader program at PS2scene.org for the MI. That would really put the chips dead even in terms of features. I mean you can always load HD Loader onto your MC and get the same effect, but the Toxic OS HD Loader program is more stable, updates more often, and compatible with more games than HD Advance/HD Loader. Anyway sorry for the rant, modchips are one of my favorite things. Cheers!

  • Pspness (13 Mar 2006 14:54)

Thats great. DMS 4 Pro SE seems good with the way you put it. I guess i just have to wait a little before i can get it anyone wanna donate? lol just a quick question, about how long did yours take after you sent it in

  • majindo (14 Mar 2006 19:55)

ok then what abt svcd im looking at trying to resize svcd formatted movieswhat im working with is a lie from dell in an 18.6 GB hd and a 9.26 GB hd Kidnapped from a gateway. have to use whats around for now.want to take another course and school isnt cheap. any programs suggested???

  • Tokijin (14 Mar 2006 20:09)

Yeah the DMS 4 Pro SE is a great chip. I like the Crystal Chip, but talked to several people about the DMS 4 Pro SE, and its got the edge in my book. I don't know too much about Svcd's, I primarily work with converting movie files to DVD. I'm sure there's an app that does it. Maybe NeroVision, DVD Rebuilder, Nero Recode, Avi2DVD, The Film Machine, those are just a couple encoding apps I know of. A couple of them work with Svcd's, you may want to look into one of them.

  • majindo (15 Mar 2006 8:26)

did the nero that you acquired need a keygen for each time that you use it or was it whole i had a nero 7 demo with a keygen that i needed to use and change serial#'s each time i used it. what is tha file name so i know or what is the best p2p to use 4 it

  • Tokijin (15 Mar 2006 23:09)

SM1985 I replied your thread, check it out. Please keep such huge posts to the forums. I've had some issues with the Nero keygen's, everytime I update it to the most recent version, it won't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and then suddenly I couldn't use Nero Recode. I just use the version of Nero 7 I have. I never use it for burning PS2 games, I prefer ImgBurn, DVD Decrypter, and Alcohol 120% for that. Nero is real useful, for some I reason I just don't care for it though. Alcohol 120% is my favorite all around app for burning games. I cross flashed my Sony DRU-810A to a BenQ DW 1640. The BenQ firmware opens up a ton more options like PI/PO scanning, overspeed, WOPC (not attempting to explain that one), and auto booktyping of DVD+R's, DVD+R DL, and DVD+RW's to DVD-ROM.

  • Jamaal10 (16 Mar 2006 8:09)

    What's up Tok?

  • SM1985 (16 Mar 2006 12:18)

What's Up!? Thanks for the advice. Only question is what speed DVD should I get? My burner, according to DVD Decrypter, burns at a max speed of 2.4x. Should I get an 8x DVD+R or a 4x DVD+R? Peace!

  • niddubtuq (16 Mar 2006 17:18)

hey, im a newbie, but i had a question, and thinkin you might know it! I have swap magic 3.6, with magic switch, on slimline ps2, and does the ps2 back up games save on my regular memory 8MB memory card, b/c it looks like it doesnt, so does back up games on swap magic with magic switch 'NOT' save on regular ps2 memory cards, if there is a way how. . . but dont you think thats stupid if it doesnt automatically save, i think its kinda lame. . . but do you know how? thanks if you can help in advance!

  • Tokijin (16 Mar 2006 23:00)

What's up Jamaal. Not too much, been spending some time hanging out with friends. I got a speeding ticket today, the cop was pissing me off. He kept accusing me of being high. I quit smoking over a year ago. "Your eyes are glassy son" he kept repeating. I got an attitude with him and urged him to give me a sobriety test which I passed easily, because I was completely sober. I don't drink or smoke. Fucking pigs, don't they have anything better to do? It could be worse, I could be black. Black people get sweated by the cops hard core, there's no doubt about that. Anymore I think it's just about being young and out late at night. Anyway sorry for the rant. How have you been? Are you adjusting to your new digs?

@ SM1985 It doesn't matter. If you can't burn above 2.4x, you might as well go with 4x media, it tends to be cheaper. Go with 4x or 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and you'll be fine.

@ niddubtuq Backups save to your MC just like originals. If the game won't save to your MC, it may be corrupt. Always use official Sony MC's to cut back on bugs with saving or loading.

  • Pspness (17 Mar 2006 20:44)

i need money for my modchip!!! im almost there. my ebay business is off to a good start. soon i will have my DMS 4Pro SE, weeee. hahah

  • Jamaal10 (18 Mar 2006 12:23)

It's all good here. Got an IT Security Manager job that doesn't require a whole lot of time, so I can't complain! Just tryin' to get used to living in a SMALL town (2,200 ppl) after spending my last 5 years outside of STL and Phoenix. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about the crime anymore!

  • Tokijin (18 Mar 2006 23:46)

Good deal Pspness. After you get your PS2 chipped, you can send Swap Magic to Valhalla. Good to hear you're doing well Jamaal10. I live in a small hick town in FL, so I can relate. Words like modchip and computer are new here lol. Imagine this guy trying to figure out a PC and you're close.

I tried to tell them we evolved from primates, not from Adam and Eve, it didn't go over well...

You'd be real handy around there.

  • Pspness (21 Mar 2006 19:27)

Gah! im not almost there! damn supplies to send out my dvd's. and the worst part of it all, the some of the money i made for modchip had to go to my ipod. i blew out somwthing in it, doesnt power on or anything. so i gotta send it back to apple and get it fixed. only 30 bucks, but still.

  • Tokijin (21 Mar 2006 20:23)

I apprecite the offer Rav009, but I will have to decline. Keep saving Pspness, you'll get there.

  • majindo (22 Mar 2006 18:45)

so what r u drivin tokijin some people here in sc kinda have cars like in need for speed most wanted. i still dont know why any one still buys 88-93 honda accords.

  • Pspness (22 Mar 2006 18:53)

ill get there soon, i hope

  • Tokijin (22 Mar 2006 21:42)

I drive a Chevy S-10. My dad owns it, but I'm the one who mainly drives it. I use to get back and forth to school and to the video store to "acquire" games. There isn't shit to do where I live, and I gave up all my bad habits awhile ago. Backing up games is a good hobby in a small hick town. It keeps out of trouble and I like burning DVD's. I'm getting close to 200 backups. I have about 80 PSX games. That oughta keep me busy until somebody mods the PS3. Cover your ears Pspness. I came across a good deal on a DMS 4 Pro SE, so I took it. I'm awaiting a replacement laser. It's a v.9 in a clear case. I tried reseating and cleaning the laser, games still stutter and skip. For now I'm still using my v.4 with MI. It's as reliable as ever, but I can't wait to get the v.9 working properly, it's pretty sweet.

  • hm1 (23 Mar 2006 7:14)

    Hi Tokijin

You seem to be the man when it come to this re-build stuff. I appreciate all that you've already posted about Gran Tourismo 4 back ups and re-builds.

Trouble i've go is i have the GT4 iso, decrypter and Gnie experiment, but all the other software you've recommended seems to have vanished.

    Any other suggestions ?

GT4 - is the pal version

    Thanks in advance

  • rint (24 Mar 2006 1:26)

Hi I am having problems Could you tell me exactly what you do when game has downloaded from bitcomet, everytime I try the game in ps2 it loads but get no picture or sound,I have Dvd Decrypter and use Datasafe 4x discs and also could you help me with bitcomet everytime I try to open torrent sites I get same page opening up as go.bitcomet.net
    Please Help Thanks

  • Tokijin (24 Mar 2006 6:40)

    @ hm1 I responded to your thread.

@ rint As far as your PS2, It sounds like you may be using cheap media. Do you have some method of booting backups like Swap Magic or a Modchip? If so, then it's probably a media issue. I only I use Taiyo Yuden media. Verbatim is also excellent. This link will guide you to some good places to buy some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media. [ link ]

@ Pspness If I told you the whole story about my DMS 4 Pro SE, you'd really scream.

  • majindo (24 Mar 2006 6:45)

im still ignorant as to how to use the torrent dl methods. it would help me to skip the $25 game acquisition fees for the hda.

  • Pspness (24 Mar 2006 15:20)

Llol, go ahead tell me. i like stories. lol, i wont scream.

  • Tokijin (24 Mar 2006 20:22)

BitTorrent is a little compex, here's some stuff which should get you started.

    Kamehameha:

  • DJAshV (26 Mar 2006 9:41)

thats like the most clever attack Goku ever thought of, shame it didnt work that well.

  • majindo (26 Mar 2006 19:19)

i think something very very bad should happen to the people that have butchered the dbz name and story in order to milk it. i have budokai 1-4 and they have some things that show promise but are lacking in others the action gets old and stale. if only i had a chance to get a crack at working the title over consumers would gladly fork over $79.99 for a good title that would keep them entertained for at least 18 months. or at least be willing to pirate it. tokijin thanks for the links my nero just recently stopped fully encoding dvd files it stops at 2.05 gb and is annoying i have been making 12 gb movies and then shrinking them down to fit on a reg dvd need help is roxio a good alternative seeing as i will have to acquire it.

  • majindo (26 Mar 2006 19:23)

this may be an odd comment but on fight night round three i dont know how to do a body blow??? any help any one???

  • Tokijin (27 Mar 2006 4:21)

Never could figure out Fight Night Round 3. Usually I'd just mock my opponent until I got knocked out. Is it just me, or does EA have an unhealthy obsession with making the right analog stick the attack button? I noticed this for Godfather as well. You can't change the controls in Godfather, maybe you can in FN3. What's wrong with using the X, O, and square buttons? Right Analog stick is not an attack button, it's a camera movement button. Damn you EA! It's been a rough last couple days on AD. A lot of conflict, some if it my fault, has been present in the PS2 forums. I wake up today and a couple of the yahoos are banned. That's definitely a plus. I need to cut back on AD, lest I end up like one of the addicts who bans himself. I don't know about Roxio Majindo, I've never used it. What's up isuck, how goes the gaming forums? Looked pretty bare when I was there. Hope it picks up for ya. Yes the teleport Kamehameha failed against Cell. DBZ's plotholes are retarded, they know cell can absorb and mimic people's abilities, yet Goku forgets that he can regenerate himself like Piccolo. Other times, Goku knows exactly what's going on. Too many plotholes like that throughout the series. I love DBZ, but I have to suspend my higher brain functions while watching it.

  • majindo (27 Mar 2006 11:45)

on fight night round 3 you can use the XOAD buttons go to options or during the fight change the configuration.my cousin likes the total punch control. and the first game that i thought sucked with analog use but turned out to be a ghood play was jet li rise to honor. but what abt the games i guess the fans have no creative input huh . thats a nmad shame. and does ne 1 else use roxio for cd/dvd burning /authoring and does ne 1 else know about body blows/ gut punches on fnr3

  • Pspness (28 Mar 2006 15:58)

    here we go again...

  • Tokijin (29 Mar 2006 1:48)

Promptly deleted. Luke I responded to your requests. Obey forum rules so you stay around longer. Anybody else got Kindgom Hearts 2 yet? It finished downloading overnight for me. I'm happy playing TOL. I've actually been up normal hours this week, normally I rise in the early afternoon, and stay up til the early morning, except when I have class. It's weird being up during the day lol. So what games is everyone playing/looking forward to?

  • majindo (29 Mar 2006 5:44)

found out abt fnr 3 its the lean button for body shots, lookin forward to playing 25 to life even though hda says its 1gb the punisher will be finished this weekend. really looking forward to nba ballers phenom, does ne 1 have the mod chip that lets you go online with a copy or any good online games that we could play right now with all of these other games i am playing through NFS Most Wanted on black list member#7 cops are a real pain in the a$$ on PS2 and in real life. i have my License suspended yet the Lt Gov gets off scott free doin more than 100mph.Ba$+ards all of them.

  • Tokijin (31 Mar 2006 12:17)

You can go online with a backup with several different chips. The Crystal Chip auto patches DNA ID's, the DMS 4 Pro SE and Matrix Infinity require you to patch the DNA ID's manually with Windip. Patching is easy, but if people play backups online all the time, then it may be more convenient to get a CC.

You drop by my shoutbox all the time, and i hardly drop by here. I know, im bad.
I took a week off from work, and i need the break. I will wind up doing a bunch of work around the house and yard, cleaning things up and fixing things, but im trying to put in some quality goof-off time also :). And for me, its not a real vaction unless i PARTY hardy. :)
    Have a good one buddy.

  • Pspness (03 Apr 2006 15:38)

    sweet! gimmie some candy. ahahahaha

  • Tokijin (03 Apr 2006 20:15)

Thanks. I got a job as a moderator at Xtreme-Source.com. So my time around AD will be very limited from here on out. XS is a small, up-and-coming site. Think of it as AD without all the ignorance. We've got a good crew, and I'm excited about the oppurtunity to learn and contribute. I won't miss answering questions about media, whether mods are needed to play PS2 games, etc. Drop on by. They won't be a small site for long.

  • MaxBurn (04 Apr 2006 18:39)

    Hi Tokijin,
Dont take this wrong buddy, but i think i see a flaw in your logic. "XS is a small, up-and-coming site. Think of it as AD without all the ignorance. We've got a good crew...Drop on by. They won't be a small site for long."

As long as your site stays small, then you probably wont have a problem with ignorence, other than questions, and thats what you're there for. The more ppl you get, the wilder things get unless watched very closly. AD has a good crew too. Now, its not always just the newbies that start problems here, but for the most part, they are the ones who cause the majority of problems, but i might be wrong on that.
The more ppl you get, usually more rules and restrictions follow. And thats because once you get enough ppl at a place, someone will have tested every rule there is, at least once. They will find loopholes. New rules will follow.. See where its going.. But have fun. I dont want to "rain on your parade".

Maybe. Perhaps the other forums on AD aren't as ridiculous as the console forums. We probably do get more kiddies than other forums. Until you've been through the BS I've been through on AD of late, it's probably hard to understand. You do have the occasional run-ins with the CMC Mag defenders like the one I'll refer to as "The Entity." But the console forums are going to hell, and noone is doing a thing to stop it. We've lost Alkohol, Hursty, KC, Steimy, Paddymail, and a couple others. Some of them still post, but very rarely. I don't take offense to what you say, it's simply your opinion. In fact I've contemplated the possibility XS could encounter the same problems when it gets bigger. I have little doubt it will happen wihin a year or so, maybe sooner. But, there's admin there that'll get off their duff and listen when people complain. For instance IP banning jerkoffs who continually are ignorant and rude. AD's bans are a joke. People just come right back. The stupider they are, the more they come back. If I sound bitter, it's because I am. AD was once a great site. I used to look forward to helping people here. Because of absolute leniency by the mods and admin, people ran wild. They're trying to crack down, but it's too little too late in my opinion. If any mods and admin read this, don't take it as an insult. But the that's the way I see it. I'm certainly not the only one who thinks so. When you've spent as much time here as I and some others have, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

  • Pspness (05 Apr 2006 20:58)

    Yup.

  • DVDBack23 (09 Apr 2006 10:58)

Thank you for the comments Tok, i really appreciate it. Unfortunately, only one of the two guys got banned [the other is the poster above mine right now in your shoutbox :( ] I dont really see you around, (im everywhere except the ps2/xbox/console forums, lol) but you seem like a VERY knowledgeable member and I hope you stay around, as aD does not need to lose any more members. I was at a point where i wanted to leave, but seeing this incident (where members i respect stood up for me) i remmebered why i love this site so much and will continue to help. Im at almost 2000 posts and hope to keep going ;) thanks again, see ya around,
    Andre (dvdack23)

  • Tokijin (09 Apr 2006 15:36)

Yeah man, just wanted to let you know that there are others who know how you feel. My mistake was trying stick up for a friend of mine, and that drew the ire of some annoying people. But it's in the past. AD is a good site, the console forums are rife with repetitive questions and flame wars nowadays, not really worth my time. I have several friends in other forums that say it's really not like that elsewhere. Thanks for dropping in ye olde shout box. Cheers!

  • Lethal_B (11 Apr 2006 13:34)

    hey there lord sesshomaru :-)

  • Tokijin (11 Apr 2006 20:27)

Sup Lethal. Busy Busy. Haven't had a ton of time for XS of late.

SoccROX, there's not much use in flashing your firmware if your burn quality is good. In fact everybody warned me against doing so, but I'm stubborn. :) The main advantages of cross flashing the Sony DRU-810A with BenQ 1640 FW, is that it will allow it to work with Qsuite, enable SolidBurn, WOPC, Overspeed, auto booktyping, and PI/PO scanning, My burn quality has remained excellent, I just wanted to be able to get accurate scans with Nero CD/DVD Speed. The default Sony FW doesn't support PI/PO scanning. This is what PI/PO scanning is good for, scanning your backups. [ link ]

bkny, I wouldn't pay for the Made in Taiwan Maxell's, you could end up with CMC Mag. Your best bet is to order TY's or Verb's online. 86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
    A. [ link ]
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

If not, look for them at chain stores.

  • majindo (19 Apr 2006 18:37)

any one know any good torrent sites just for movies???

  • Tokijin (23 Apr 2006 23:03)

Use the torrent links in my PS2 FAQ, they also have several sites where you can acquire movies. I'm not around here much, busy with XS and school, end of the semester is hectic. Besides you all know my views on AD nowadays, not worth my time.

  • cmfkapaka (24 Apr 2006 19:06)

  • Tokijin (16 May 2006 20:58)

Yeah Since I've been playing with PhotoShop, I like to change it up all the time. Yeah I wasn't sure if that would piss Lethal off. He's my m8, but you never know when it comes to girlfriends lol. Fortunately, his sense of humor is the same as mine.

  • jiindong (17 May 2006 7:52)

hey Tokijin, can u help me here by answering some question? See, my PS2 is loading the backup-dvd game very very slow some can play but hang during some of the event. I try even tried a game call Kingdom Heart II wif my backup (i dunno wat disc is it) the dvd could run the first time but laggy, sec time it hang during new game, third time and now it can't even load. Then i use the backup from my fren which is the same game (dunno wat kind of dvd also but it looks the same colour as mine), it can run very very smooth and loading is fast. i wonder it is the modchip problem or wat?

  • Lethal_B (17 May 2006 19:32)

lol, you could never piss me off, tok!! I can more than take a good joke. ;-P

  • Tokijin (17 May 2006 21:37)

Jin, try using some quality Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim 4x or 8x media. Consult the PS2 FAQ link for reliable places to buy em. Man I need to get a job, too much spare time of late.

  • Ofnir1 (18 May 2006 0:28)

    Hey what's up man?

  • Pspness (18 May 2006 12:44)

Tourettes-guy.com Lethal. Check out the videos.

  • majindo (25 May 2006 17:55)

hey tokijin have you peeped the new dbz budokai tenkaichi it looks interesting. i feel that the creators are still milking the series but from the screen shots i may be wrong a friend of mines says that there are more than 108 characters. i thought that it would be crapped up like the first tenkaichi but in this one there may actually be over 100 unique characters in the old one a transformed state was a character but in the screen shot i see in game transformations and fighting. check out this site for great tv season torrents [ link ] whats another good one that you know.

  • Tokijin (26 May 2006 23:59)

@Fiend That's cool, same here. The PS2 section is a daycare center nowadays, definitely have better things to do than babysit. Glad to see you're back.

@ Majindo Haven't heard much about the new one, I liked the original DBZT.

  • Timmy1970 (28 May 2006 1:40)

Sorry to bother you Tokijin - and this may be areally dumb question, but i was wondering regarding media - how do you determin who manufactures the media (e.g. Taiyo Yuden etc)?. Can you tell by looking at the actual physical appearance on the media (like on the innermost part?) or do progrmas like Nero actually tell you? I saw your BLOG and saw your tests on media, and thought I spotted Taiyo Yuden in there somewhere but I'm unsure. Have you heard anything really bad about TDK? Any response is appreciated mate, give me a personal message or just post here I'll check back soonish. Thanks again.

  • Tokijin (28 May 2006 23:59)

I don't personally care for TDK media, based on what peeps here at AD have said. I'll stick with TY, never had a coaster. To learn more about how to spot legit TY media, click on the PS2 FAQ link in my links section, a couple questions in the 80-100 range deal with TY media.

  • Timmy1970 (29 May 2006 17:46)

    Thanks Tokijin!

  • majindo (30 May 2006 19:42)

hey tokijin send me a link to a good trnt site that i can get some good tv seasons from, yu yu hakusho, stargate sg1, family guy, american dad, etc
i fear that i may not be intelligent enough to use the tvtorrents.com

  • Tokijin (31 May 2006 1:21)

Well the usual torrent sites. I don't know about tvtorrents.com, but you can look at the usual suspects like torrentleech.org, bitsoup.org. In my PS2 FAQ there's a big list of torrent sites. That's what I use when I can't find what I want on private trackers.

  • Pspness (31 May 2006 17:26)

whats goin on tokijin, just stoppion by to tel lyou i found another private torrent site, its great, here it is
    link ]

real good, about the same as TL, but i like [ link ] more cuz my ratio isnt fucked up

  • gloglebag (02 Jun 2006 14:23)

Hey I have a question about the DNAS for mgs3:subsistence.
The thing is on this forum only one code is listed "xx xx 00 30 BC"
But on other sites like thease 2:
    link ]
    link ]

there are 2 codes listed, the one thats in this forum and "xx xx 01 30 BC"
Now I just used WinDip to patch CD 2, and it only gave me one file to patch, so my question is, are both correct codes and U can use them both or is something wrong with WinDip, or is there another problem.
BTW my disk is an Import from the US it's NTSC.

Thnx in advance for any anwser

  • Tokijin (02 Jun 2006 22:24)

Thanks for the tip on the torrent site Pspness. I signed up, haven't used it yet. I spread my downloading out, so I don't constantly have to seed. I got a modded X-Box a week ago, so I've been downloading X-Box games left and right. It's a lot more complex than the PS2, but it's fun to learn something new. Games that're available for PS2 and X-Box are a lot better on the X-Box.

@Globe You won't be able to play a game from another region online. If your PS2 is PAL, you can only play PAL games online. If you have a v1-8 PS2, you can patch it with the Console ID Changer, provided you can find a valid Console/ilink ID. Then you could play games from either region online. Check the PS2 FAQ link in my links section for more info.

  • gloglebag (03 Jun 2006 6:39)

Thank you very much for you're anwser. Like always you are very helpfull.

  • Tokijin (04 Jun 2006 23:48)

No prob, thanks for the compliments.

  • niddubtuq (12 Jun 2006 18:15)

hey man, i know you are the man, i remember askin help from you about which media to use, and ur help was great, and it worked!

alright now my new question...i doubt you will be able to help, but im like prayin like crazy that you know what to do!

alright i have a new Slim PS2, bought about lets say 6 months ago... and i use Swap Magic 3.6 with Magic Switch Pro V2....and i burn on 8X media, and i use Sony 8X Made in Japan DVD's which are good Taiyo Yudens, and i was able to play all my backups flawlessly

well now, i have a problem, i seriously think i tried everything i think..but not sure

the problem is that when i press the power or reset button, doesnt matter, the disk laser thingy doesnt move at all...but hear this, if i close the lid on my slimline ps2, and press the power button, bam it spins and my "normal" store bought games work like a charm....but when i open my lid, and put my swap magic dvd, and press the power button it should start spinnin right?...it doesnt, ive tried many things to make the laser thingy spin so i can play my backed up games...but nothin works, im prety much frustrated, bc i payed like 40$ for Swap Magic...but i guess i should be happy that my ps2 does work and play normal store bought games...but i have no clue how to make my ps2 start spinnin when the lid is open, so i can play my swap magic again...i was able to use my Swap Magic for like 2 months, and then this laser thingy stopped spinnin when the lid is open...but i dunno what to do, i hope you know what i can do...i thank god that i can play my normal ps2 store bought games, but i hope you, or any of ur good friends that knows any of this stuff can help me =(

    thanks in advance man

  • Pspness (12 Jun 2006 23:15)

you should try adujusting you magic keys.

  • Tokijin (14 Jun 2006 9:21)

It could be something with the sensor. If the PS2 thinks the lid is open, the disk won't spin. I don't know a ton about the magic switch, but I think you can cover up the censor with tape or something. Check around some PS2 forums, I know people have reported similar problems before.

  • niddubtuq (14 Jun 2006 19:34)

cover the censor with a piece of tape?...but i thought you arent supposed to even touch the censor at all?

  • Tokijin (15 Jun 2006 10:08)

Like I said, I don't know a ton about the magic switch, you'll have to look around. I just thought I remembered seeing that posted in the past.

  • majindo (18 Jun 2006 11:53)

is swap magic like the old action replays (external ps1 modchips) ??? and what games do you guys play online currently i play socom 2 and fight night round 3 online have played nba ballers phenom online and starwars battle front 2 online but what games are th best online???

  • Tokijin (19 Jun 2006 6:59)

@Jan Oh I know. That's why I'm not around here much. It's all good, not like I lose sleep over it lol. Thanks for dropping in. I'll take up space in your shoutbox sometime.

@ Majindo Swap Magic is a boot DVD and CD that allows you to play backup PS2 DVD and CD games without a modchip. You need a case mod to use it. There's plenty of info about it my FAQ. I recommend getting a modchip, but if money's an issue Swap Magic's okay. I don't really play games online, not much help there.

  • svtstang (24 Jun 2006 21:05)

I honeslty feel honored you gave me a shout Tokijin lol!! There has been a lot of bs on aD lately, especially in the psp forum, and have been devoting WAY to much time trying to get it all sorted out. Im am now starting to understand your views about the forums now. Believe me, i will be back on XS soon, probably tonight. As i am sure you can tell, i am not the most knowledgeable person in the world, but between you, Jamaal, and Kam, I feel at home at XS. Talk to you soon, and thx for that sick FF avatar you made me, will put that to use once I head back over to XS:D

  • Tokijin (24 Jun 2006 23:50)

@ Jan Lol, you're not the first one to have that complaint. I fought to keep the sig limits where they are, playing with ImageReady is one of my hobbies. Yeah it can suck if you're using IE, or have dial up. I only have a 1.5MB DSL connection, but I use FireFox and tweaked the hell out of it so stuff loads pretty fast, at the expense of system memory. We have a huge server, we're with Bluehost.com I believe, I don't know the specifics, but the staff is allotted 200MB's of server space each for pics, tuts, etc. We have a ton of bandwidth, and never have server issues. It's not really an issue with me. Either way, thanks for dropping by. Impressive site you have there, looks like you could teach me a thing or two about the Xbox, only got it modded about a month ago. I take it from the anime pics you're into anime? I'm watching Ghost in the Shell SAC 1st Gig currently. Just got done with Full Metal Alchemist, that one's a classic. Gotta watch it uncut in Japanese. I hate English dubbed stuff. My all time favs are RahXephon, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, FMA, Inuyasha, and Berserk.

@ Stang No prob, glad you like the Seph avatar. I'm not a celebrity lol, just another member. I seem to get that a lot lately, like "wow, it's Tokijin." I wasn't aware I was well known on AD, there's a ton members more knowledgeable than I. XS has been kinda slow of late, I think that'll change with Tech back in the saddle. We need our fearless leader to be at full strength lol. I'm glad he's back. Damn 4 in the morning, time for some NCAA 2006. Later.

  • Flashin (25 Jun 2006 11:00)

Interesting link on Vista I'll have to sit down & pick at it.My brother just had a cd sent to him & I sent him that link. Thanks

  • DVDBack23 (29 Jun 2006 18:35)

wish i knew how to use image ready to make my own gifs, as of now only know how to use premade gifs. anyways, thanks for the words, and it does suck that it seems like a lot of idiots are out there and i have to deal with them over the interent, lol. see you around buddy :)

  • Tokijin (29 Jun 2006 22:27)

@Jan I appreciate you taking the time to consider it, much appreciated. No hurry, get all your ducks in a row, and go from there. I'll join your site to test stuff out. Php is not easy, one of our admins is pretty tech saavy, and he had a devil of a time with it. Programming langauges are beyond me, have neither the talent, nor the interest to pick it up. Apparently flash is pretty difficult too. Thanks for dropping by. I'll post some of my animated avs and sigs on your server, that should give it a workout.

@DVDBack I was joking about that, I've been through stretches where I encountered morons and wondered why I even bother. Most of my encounters at AD have been pleasant lately, though I've sorely limited my participation. Making animated gifs really isn't hard man. I only started with ImageReady a couple months ago, now I regularly design sigs/avs for people. I'm certainly not a pro, but I can hold my own. If you're interested in picking it up, there's a couple of tuts for it on Xteme-Source.com. It's really pretty easy.

    Read Kambodianboi's tut first: [ link ]

Then read my ImageReady tut: [ link ]

You'll be churning out animated sigs and avs in no time.

  • Syotobe (01 Jul 2006 14:56)

Hi Tokijin.. Im really sorry if I'm at the wrong place.. But there's a prob, I recently joined AfterDawn, for informations about ps2 thingies, but now, I am even more confused, some people says that Verbatims 8x are really good but is there fake verbatims or w/e ? I dunno if i've been reading wrong, but im REALLY confused, I don't know which one to buy, I'm looking for the first class verbatim everyone is talking about .. Is it this one ? I am looking for good ones that works nicely .. Some good verbatims! (There's no Taiyo Yuden here in Canada.. =/)

    link ]
    (Verbatim DataLifePlus 50 pack DVD-R Discs 8X)

If its not those one, do you have pictures of the good ones(And where they were made to have the good ones (ex: Taiwan or w/e.. ) ) ? I live in Canada, And I don't know any shop I could buy some but If I at least see an image, i'll try to find them.. Im really sorry if my spelling are bad, english is not my primary language ..
Thank you so much for your time sir !

  • Pspness (01 Jul 2006 16:58)

    whats good tok?

  • Tokijin (01 Jul 2006 22:36)

Those 8x Verbatim DataLife's should be fine. There's little chance of getting fake media if you buy it at chain stores or reputable sites. You can get Taiyo Yuden's in Canada, under the Sony label. Look for 50 packs of 8x Sony DVD+R's/-R's with an octogonal spacer on top (piece of styrofoam) and that say "Made in Japan" on the label. These will be Taiyo Yuden's. 16x Verbs (and media in general) has been known to cause issues with PS2 backups. Stick with 4x or 8x Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims.

    86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
    A. [ link ]
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
    link ]

    111. Q. How do I backup PS2 games or booktype DVD+R's to DVD-ROM with Nero, Alcohol 120%, ImgBurn, and DVD Decrypter?
    A. With ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter: [ link ]

With Nero and Alcohol 120%: [ link ]

Sup Pspness, hope you'reholding down the fort in the console sections, I can't be bothered with them anymore.

  • Syotobe (02 Jul 2006 8:54)

I really appreciate you answered my question Tokijin. =)
    Thanks alot !

    There's my last question :
    link ]
These are the real ones right ? Thanks

Thanks for all your support !!

  • Tokijin (02 Jul 2006 22:32)

    Yeah those are real.

  • svtstang (03 Jul 2006 1:11)

LMAO still in high demand I see Tokijin:D Take it easy!

  • Tokijin (03 Jul 2006 1:17)

You know it lol. Sup Stang.

  • DVDBack23 (03 Jul 2006 15:08)

thanks man. with the new rules its probably a little bit more than 200 posts, but ill get there eventually ;)

  • Tokijin (03 Jul 2006 16:26)

They changed the requirements? What're the new ones?

  • MaxBurn (04 Jul 2006 1:34)

New requirements for AD Addict Status:

    1. All posts must be typed backwards as some ppl have mirror vision and need to read it that way.

    2. You must obtain true enlightenment, and stick around to tell everyone else what it is. No running away to nirvana.

    3. Mental telepathy will be required of all Addicts.

    4. You must be able to mind meld with a machine thru mental telepathy also. (no need for them to post any log, or any info about the problem. A true addict will just know what is wrong without being supplied any usefull information. )

    5. You cannot be human. Only true ALIENS will be allowed to be addicts. (we are doing this to protect your fragile human brains)

    6. Being able to bend time and space will be a plus, but not absolutely required for AD Addict status.

    7. The number of posts you do will not matter. Quality will count, not quantity. Who will determine what is quality? See rule #5.

    8. You have to be addicted to something other than AD also. Major drugs, gambling, sex, any of the good major ones, in any or all combinations would be good, but at least one major addiction will be required. (and if its only one, it better be something other than just sex, or you wont get the coveted addict status. )

    9. The red zone is for loading or unloading only.

    10. Enjoy your stay, and clean up after yourself when you leave. Thank you, and have a nice orbit around your star.

These rules might not be the ones you see posted here, but those are the real ones. Im not supposed to show you this, but what are buddies for? :)

  • Tokijin (04 Jul 2006 18:24)

Lol. Very funny Max. Good thing I'm a Saiyan, not a human. That way I can acquire Addict status. All bow to the mighy Saiyan.

  • rav009 (05 Jul 2006 7:15)

**Bows down to Tokijns saiyan status**

  • Syotobe (05 Jul 2006 19:16)

Toki, did that already happend to you ? :
My swap magic 3.6 disc works like 65 % of the times, sometimes it gives me a disc read errors, sometime not.. If It works and then I play a game, everything is fine, but its annoying that I always have to reboot the ps until it works.. I really don't know what to do -_-

  • Tokijin (06 Jul 2006 2:23)

I don't have Swap Magic Syotobe, I have a modchip. Try cleaning your laser with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol.

    74. Q. I turn on my PS2, the disc spins and makes a "clicking" sound. It says "disk read error" in my browser, what do I do?
    A. This could be a sign your laser is dirty or scratched. Clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol if you think it might be dirty, also be sure to check it for scratches. Fat PS2 v.1-11: [ link ] Consult the links listed earlier in this thread for info. This could also be a sign your game is dirty or scratched. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue. Only apply a couple drops of rubbing alcohol on the disc, 4 or so evenly spaced. You may want to use an eye dropper for this. Rub it with a lint free cloth or tissue in a non circular pattern until it's dry. Your other option is to buff out the surface scratches with on the disc with a "Game Doctor." I came across a $20 Memorex cleaning device at Wal-Mart which basically does the same thing. It worked wonders for my scratched Breaker Pro disc. The Game Doctor will set you back around $40. If the scratches are too deep, this won't make any difference. If you get the "clicking" sound with a backup, all these same things apply. Also MAKE SURE that your not using cheap media. Again check the links posted earlier in this FAQ. [ link ]

Sup Rav, check out XS, you might have something good in your inbox. :)

  • majindo (06 Jul 2006 4:17)

hey tokijin and pspness long time no shout my fault do either of you convert mkv to avi if so what do you use right now im using virtual dub mod for all of my conversion on yu yu hakusho but when i play the outcoming avi file i get the message that there are 2 audio streams and that a certain divx codec will be required to play with the sound playing it after conversion gives me no sound should i waste a dvd to trial and error or do you have a solution or prog that works????

  • Tokijin (06 Jul 2006 22:12)

Avi files don't support dual audio. That's most likely the problem. Mkv and ogm files do. I've never dealt with converting mkv files, but that's most likely the problem.

  • majindo (07 Jul 2006 5:47)

is there any way to burn these mkv files to dvd with udio or what dvd authoring do you recommend. id like to watch on tv via apex dvd player

  • Tokijin (07 Jul 2006 6:30)

You can use Avi2DVD to convert mkv files to DVD. It's freeware and comes with Freeware encoders. CCE is the best encoder around. It's not free, but easy to acquire. Get it here: [ link ]

  • Syotobe (07 Jul 2006 13:56)

Thats sure is odd.. Here's the thing:
My swap magic cd wasnt working 1/3 of the times..
    I was doing that

(The Ps2 2 (power switch) Is On)
I press the disc eject button : The PS2 starts at the same time
I put the swap magic dvd in the dvd tray
I press the eject button to make it go back in the ps2
Then I wait for it to load or not..
1/3 of the time it wasnt working like I said..

Then, after being **ssed off to the maximum, I tried putting my original game Kingdom hearts 2.. Magicly, It NEVER said disc read error (I did about 7-8x try of turning the PS2 on and see if it was loading..

I started to think my swap magic 3 dvd is .. a defect..

Then, I tried something.. I hold the power button to turn it off(Not the behind one) Then , I switched the Swap magic cd with my KH2 game BY the Fliptop cover.. Then I pressed the button to put my ps2 on.. Magicly , It works.. and it never failed (I did it like 9x time.. )

Does that mean I always have to put in correctly the swap magic dvd by the fliptop ? I really hope it won't do a DRE again.. There's no instruction manual with the cds I got.. I really dont get it.. My KH2 worked by the disc tray thing.. Im kind of confused..
Do you know what makes it works ? If you have no idea thats ok ! But thanks alot ..

(Sorry if my spelling is bad.. Im not used to write alot of words in english)

  • Syotobe (08 Jul 2006 9:08)

It did it again... -_- Im really thinking my swap magic is a defect.. Could it be possible ?

  • Tokijin (10 Jul 2006 2:18)

You need to specify if you mean the Swap Magic DVD or CD. The Swap Magic CD is a POS and always gives people headaches. The Swap Magic DVD usually works well. Yeah use your flip top to insert the Swap Magic DVD. That's the whole point of using it. You can insert your backups with the DVD Tray. You need a case mod to use Swap Magic. If putting your Swap Magic DVD in with the flip top while your PS2 is in standy works, then do so. If that method works consistently, I wouldn't worry about having a defective Swap Magic.

  • Tokijin (15 Jul 2006 5:27)

Well I'm no longer a mod at Xtreme-Source.com. I resigned my post, save my self respect. So I dunno, may be around here a little more. I still want to help people, just not as much.

  • svtstang (15 Jul 2006 14:13)

Doesnt feel to good to tell you the truth. Certain mods are pains in the ass, you know who i mean. LOL you superior, have you been smoking crack? Despite your title on XS, you still have rank over me man. Talk to you later :)

  • Pspness (15 Jul 2006 23:31)

    nevermind

  • Tokijin (16 Jul 2006 15:44)

Titles don't mean much Stang, that's something you find out in life. All you've got are your self respect, your knowledge, and your friends. It came down to me not wanting to be anyone's yes man, that's the choice I made. I still have a lot of friends at XS, and wish them well. Thanks for the encouragement all, much appreciated.

  • Jamaal10 (17 Jul 2006 13:02)

What is all this nonsense of modchips that you speak of???

Sup Tok/LS? Just makin' the rounds here, so I thought I'd hit ya up...

  • Tokijin (17 Jul 2006 14:22)

Modchip? Do you mean the chip the CIA implanted in my rectum as a tracking device? I can't talk now... it's vibrating... yeah.....

  • Jamaal10 (17 Jul 2006 15:26)

    lol, you get that too?

I thought it was just a colonic discharge issue...

  • Tokijin (17 Jul 2006 16:59)

Saves me money on anal beads...

  • Tokijin (18 Jul 2006 17:01)

Lol. As I recall I was pwning you before you started editing my shouts...

  • Tokijin (19 Jul 2006 8:50)

@DG To quote Data from Star Trek First Contact "Perfection is the sign of a delusional mind."

On that note, make sure your meds are in order, Heroin recovery is a rough road. :)

    @Jan Don't do anything I wouldn't do.... lol.

  • Tokijin (19 Jul 2006 17:04)

It's okay man... I understand what you're going through now... those withdrawal systems make you say some cruel things.... you can pull through... if not, I know the number of a good smack dealer...

  • Pspness (19 Jul 2006 23:05)

"Saves me money on anal beads..."

    ewww man ahahahahhah

  • Tokijin (20 Jul 2006 9:45)

Lol yeah man, just going for shock value. Sup Pspness, how're things?

@DG You know you're my bitch man, why fight it? ;D Oops I don't wanna get banned from XS, better tone it down.... I'm messing with ya man, you know I respect you. Good luck with the "no comment" topic, hopefully you'll get it sorted. Wouldn't want to get on your bad side, I know Mr. Metasploit is a click away lol.

  • rav009 (21 Jul 2006 7:48)

Hey Tok, I read a while back about "Lord Sesshomaru" stepping down, this was a little sad for me to say as you were the one who suggestedn I apply for moderator and you were always a great member of the team and a great guy for how long I've known you here and at xtreme-source.

I won't qeustion why you left, as I'm sure you have a reason which is more than valid, and I wish you luck with whatever your doing, take care man.

    -rav

  • Tokijin (21 Jul 2006 9:52)

Sup Rav. I appreciate the sentiments. I told the story to a couple peeps, that's it. It's not melodrama, I just have a different view on things than the admin, and we both felt strongly about our position, so I left. I think you guys are coming into your own a bit. It's different when your a mod or admin, you have to put up with things you don't as a member. You have to be diplomatic and respectful of peeps, even when they don't deserve it. It takes some getting used to. I can honestly say I never banned people out of spite, only spammers and idiots. When I left, I didn't want melodrama or to cause a scene, I detest that. I will be forgotten in time, and you guys will pick up the slack. Later.

  • Tokijin (21 Jul 2006 22:57)

What's the error your getting? I've never had any issues with Alcohol 120%, though I haven't used it recently, been too busy with Xbox games. A link to a screenshot would he helpful.

  • Tokijin (22 Jul 2006 13:31)

Yeah that's a good step. Usually things like that are low grade, damaged discs or driver issues. If it's not one, it's likely the other.

  • Tokijin (22 Jul 2006 19:58)

Lol. Yeah man, I just like to use big words rather than curse. I curse like a sailor in real life, just try not to do so online. Your blogs will always beat mine in terms of entertainment value. I do plenty of yelling, mainly while driving. I live in a small hick town in the south where everyone drives a truck, SUV, and drives like an idiot, doesn't signal, rides you, speeds up when you try to pass them, full of semis, etc. I drive a truck, I just seem to be missing the asshole component that's rampant here. Maybe I'll let er rip, next time I feel strongly about something, I'll have a go. Hell you should hear me play sports games, you'd think that someone had stole my PS2 or Xbox, I get real mad when I lose at a sports game lol.

  • Tokijin (23 Jul 2006 11:56)

@ Jan I kinda suspected that, it was 6AM UK time lol. No big deal, have friends who used to do that all the time, even worse, they'd do it while playing ZSNES over net play lol. I didn't want to flame that thread, but didn't want peeps to read it and think there was a true mod for the 360 either. Maybe he has an NME, Globe360 chip, and he's buying downloaded dumps off BT. The part about playing 360 backups from another region can't be right, but he could download games, burn them, and play them with just a Dual Layer burner. Dunno still doesn't ring true, but at least that idea's plausible. Not important.

@Dan Haven't read it yet, sure I'll get a kick out of it. I see word travels fast lol. I don't think Punqewe was a member of AD before, so that means he joined just to respond to your rant. How sad would that be? It really doesn't pay to try to argue with people where they can delete your posts lol. Will give it a read in a bit and give you my take on it lol.

  • Tokijin (23 Jul 2006 20:39)

Hmm makes me wonder why MS doesn't just do that then, unless it would somehow adversely affect them. When you get into code and what not, that's all Greek to me. If you can't explain it to me here, PM me about it.

  • Pspness (27 Jul 2006 1:06)

Wooo, after all this time, i finally bought my modchip. Being the poor dolt i am, i can only get the Cyrstal Chip 1.1 and not the DMS 4Pro SE i promised myself. NOw is there a difference between the 4kb and 128kb one? i only got the 4kb one meh. hope mod-chip.com is agood source and didnt get screwed.

  • Tokijin (27 Jul 2006 1:31)

Mod-chip.com is reputable, that's where teammodders.com recommends to buy your chip from. Are you going to install it yourself? The 128kB flash one is simply the CC 1.2. It's basically still the CC 1.1, just with some added flash buffer. 128kB's sounds like a lot, but the DMS 4 Pro SE has a 2MB onboard flash. I don't think it'll matter much, the CC is a really good chip, it'll do everything you want it to. The only thing it doesn't share is support for cheat devices, and of course it features the auto DNA patch, which I'm not sure why other chips don't emulate.

  • Pspness (27 Jul 2006 16:34)

Cool man. Yea i might install it myself, or find someone to help me with that.

  • Tokijin (27 Jul 2006 16:45)

Yeah you know the deal, just be careful. If this is the first system you've modded, best to send it to [ link ]

  • Pspness (27 Jul 2006 19:22)

Yes yes yes, i Will try not to fux up. And if i send it to them, ill never learn to do it myself. Practice makes perfect, in this case, pactice has to be perfect

  • Tokijin (28 Jul 2006 19:26)

Yeah PS2 modding isn't the best place to start though. There's 18-20 solder points along on the mobo, not an easy job, even for experienced solderers. If you want to practice modding, try it on a GameCube or Xbox first. Those are easy to mod, only three or four solder points. I'd hate to see you destroy your PS2. A new premod goes for $210+. Quality installation is around $35. Not worth taking a chance.

  • Pspness (29 Jul 2006 13:12)

Hmmmmm, maybe illl just start with the lazer fix, 3 wires and a few points

  • Tokijin (29 Jul 2006 16:28)

Yeah it's up to you man. From my experiences, it'd be silly to attempt to mod your PS2 without proper experience. If it was my PS2, no way in hell I'm taking a chance. But it's not, so good luck.

  • Pspness (29 Jul 2006 19:06)

you sure can cheer someone up about this....

  • Tokijin (29 Jul 2006 22:01)

That's not my intent. My intent is give you honest advice on what I feel is the best course of action. You know your technical capabilities better than me. But in my honest opinion there's a good chance you'll destroy your PS2 if you attempt to mod it. It's not my decision. Do what you feel is best.

  • Shipa (31 Jul 2006 9:59)

Hey man, i just wonder if you know if FFXII JP version is dual layer or single? Cause i got the game, cant play it though, and was thinking of buying Swap Magic but heard it doesnt work with dual layer games. So if its dual i guess i need a chip.

  • rav009 (31 Jul 2006 12:17)

Thats 3 mods XS have lost thus yet, me you and Dan...

Atleast were back were we belong, AfterDawn :)

  • Tokijin (31 Jul 2006 16:29)

What happened Rav? PM me the details if you want.

The Jap version of FFXII is single layer Shipa.

  • Tokijin (31 Jul 2006 19:56)

@Toocool. Nah that link was pointed out to me lol. I have no idea what the conflict is about, just thought it was kinda funny. So I thought of some stupid quote from Transformers the Movie (which I know way too much about) and posted it. Lemme tell you man, from personal experience, dealing with people like that, it's best to let them get the last word in and move on. Not that I've always done that, but it's usually the best solution. Anyway, take care.

  • Tokijin (31 Jul 2006 20:42)

Thank you. I wanted to a be a writer in a different life lol.

  • Tokijin (31 Jul 2006 22:06)

Because the converging realties which bind the opposing parts of my soul are still seperate. When they unite, my full power will be unleashed. All will return to as it was... waves... crashing together at the beginning of time... before our bodies had corporeal form.

Lol, that's in no way influenced by years of introversion, Xenogears, anime, and Star Trek.

  • Shipa (31 Jul 2006 23:55)

ah thats great to hear. I have the JP version right beside me but cant play it XD I orderd Swap Magic and a Fliptop and it will arrive any day now, god i cant wait!
    Thanks for the answer ^^

  • svtstang (01 Aug 2006 1:30)

LOL, damn you are a good writer:) Lots of big words, me feel dumb:D Anyway, thought id stop by and wish you well, talk to you later LS....er Tok......er i quit.

  • Tokijin (01 Aug 2006 2:55)

Thanks. I actually started a manuscript once, got about 20,000 words in, ended up losing it and the backup copy somehow. Wasn't really mad, it kinda sucked anyway, way too complicated, even I couldn't understand it, plus there were lots of gratuitous fight scenes. The characters weren't fully developed. Picture Xenogears minus the robots meets Inuyasha, and that's close to what I was going for.

  • Shipa (02 Aug 2006 14:37)

Hey man, could you check my post about Swap Magic 3.6 and FFXII? Maybe you can help me, i really want to get the game to work. Thanks in advance ^^

  • Tokijin (02 Aug 2006 19:16)

    @Shipa Out bout a link?

@Jan My copy didn't need rebuilt, works fine with Matrix Infinity. Never played it more than to watch the intro, not playing through a whole game in Jap lol.

  • Tokijin (04 Aug 2006 3:56)

Lol, well I'm always up late. My schedule was pretty messed up, getting up at 9PM and what not. I got up at like 2AM last night and will be up through the day. Need to correct this schedule, got to get signed up for school next week, classes begin on the 21st. Been busting my ass this morning, posting guides, editing, removing guides, etc. Who says you can't work up a sweat online. Posted a couple guides on the old test forums, give it a look when you get a chance. Later.

  • svtstang (04 Aug 2006 11:49)

Yup, i get all the douche bags :/ He didnt like my response when i told him no invite requests and not to post email addy's. Somebody's got to do the dirty work lol.

Anyways, how goes it? Sounds like you got the xbox all pimped out, maybe be bothering for help soon. Talk to you later Tok :D

    EDIT - 2 week vacation for dcrayne......woohoo :) lol

  • Tokijin (04 Aug 2006 12:28)

I'm doing well Stang. The Xbox is pretty cool, spend too much time playing it lol. I compulsively update Xbox Media Center weekly, the Pimped releases are nice. Gotta get signed up for school next week, apparently the local campus is only offering 4 Social Work classes this fall, hoping the website is wrong. Anyway hold down the fort at XS man, later.

  • Tokijin (05 Aug 2006 8:45)

Nope. If you want to contact me, do so via PM. I'll remove your email to protect you from spammers.

  • svtstang (06 Aug 2006 0:25)

You can contact me anytime Tok at Im_A_Dirty_N00b@gmail.com lol. Sorry,
im a biter, but its late and i thought that was pretty clever :| Take it easy man:)

  • Tokijin (06 Aug 2006 2:18)

    My email is ifyoucontacthisaddressyouranidiot@goatfuck.org

  • Tokijin (06 Aug 2006 16:23)

Jan, check out the page views on the old test forums, they're soaring by the day. Well at least my tuts are.

  • Tokijin (07 Aug 2006 11:04)

Good deal. I've got other stuff I can post as well. Finally added pics to the CDRWIN portion of my PSX/PS2 CD-ROM backup guide, that was way overdue. Turns out I had to turn off emulation in Alcohol 120%. Anyway, been loading up on ROM's for various emulators. PCSXbox annoys me, seems like they half assed a lot of things, they could've simply added in a bunch of GPU and Sound plug ins, in particular the sound is way off in a bunch of games. That's why I contacted you about ePSXe possibly being ported. I know I couldn't do it myself, at least not with my current skill set, but maybe someone can. If you know someone who has that interest, give em a holler.

  • Jamaal10 (07 Aug 2006 18:00)

    Sup Tok?

The avatar was just a joke. I changed his and decided to change mine afterwards. Now, we're just too lazy to get rid of em. Besides, it'll be a nice conversation starter for others! :D

  • Tokijin (08 Aug 2006 8:32)

Good deal man. I've been mind melding with my Xbox, we are now one... lol. Been loading up on old emus, might have a go at Final Fantasy 1 and II : Dawn of Souls, it's supposed to have like nine bonus dungeous with super hard bonus bosses, I love the Omega Weapons of the FF world. Thanks for the shout, later.

  • majindo (11 Aug 2006 3:23)

its official i have out grown the capabilities of my dell
no time to upgrade and every company selling barebones feels that they have the best

  • Tokijin (11 Aug 2006 8:40)

Yeah I will never buy an OEM build again. I've learned a bit about mobos, CPU's etc, and have at least a feel for what's good and what sucks. When I get to specifics, I can call in a few favors for building my next rig. For the same price as my Dimension 2400, I could've gotten a dual core CPU, nice Asus mobo, and some decent quality RAM which would run rings around this thing.

  • svtstang (11 Aug 2006 12:21)

Hey Tok, thanks for the shout man. I dont know wtf is wrong with people, school starts soon so all the bored the kiddies wont be able to start shit anymore, maybe things kill improve. aD needs you Tok, dont get any crazy idea!!

BTW, any idea what happened to DG? Went to a thread and saw he got banned!!?! Love to know what the deal on that is. Take care Tok, talk to you later :)

  • Tokijin (11 Aug 2006 13:53)

No idea Stang, wasn't aware he was banned. I'll look into it. I'm just tired of the BS associated with AD. You try to do nice stuff for people, and assholes report your sig for being a couple lines too big or flame you because you disagree with them on something. There's just no respect anymore. Several Senior Members/Addicts got to where they are by inflating their post count, and I know the mods are tired of dealing with it. I don't blame them, I would be too. It's not irreversible, but it would take hard work to sort out, and I just don't know if the admin are up to it.

  • Tokijin (11 Aug 2006 22:38)

But of Course. Go Steelers!!! Got a sweet Steeler UnleashX skin.

  • svtstang (12 Aug 2006 0:57)

BOOOOO STEALERS!!!! GO PANTHERS!!! Kinda biased, have a buddy on the team. Anyways, take it easy Tok :)

  • Tokijin (12 Aug 2006 14:13)

Oh yeah, how did the Panthers do vs the Seahawks in the NFC title game last year?

Actually, I was rooting for the Panthers, I knew the Seachickens would be a pushover. They can grumble about the officiating all they want, they had the ball inside the 50 3 times in the first quarter and only got 3 points. Fact is, Steelers dominated except for Ben's bonehead interception by the goaline, which accounted for their only touchdown. Sadly, they had a shot late til Hassleback's int and Randle El's touchdown. I knew right off he was gonna throw it. He was running parllel to the line of scrimmage, which is a dead giveaway he wasn't trying to run it.

  • MaxBurn (12 Aug 2006 23:25)

A couple of months ago, I was told by a mod in a PM to remove or reduce the size of my AK kitty sig. Now it was bigger in size than the new rules said it could be, so i changed it. Its not animated anymore. I hope that 50K reduction in size saved some lives. But, i had to obey the rules as this came from a mod in a PM. One of the mods here before said it was fine, but i wasnt going to argue.
I dont visit here as often as i used to, but i do try to make it by and help someone if i can. Today im just looking around and noticing the many changes as far as ppl banned and left on their own. Shit happens.

  • glitchzoo (13 Aug 2006 3:47)

    hey @Tokijin

  • Pspness (13 Aug 2006 19:12)

Maybe you can answer this Tok, Why dont people mod V1-v3 PS2's?

  • Tokijin (13 Aug 2006 19:53)

@Max You're not missing much. Most of my good friends are elsewhere nowadays. The console forums are bad, but I think it's spreading. Anyway thanks for the shout man, don't work yourself too hard. There are still peeps who need CMC Mag kitty, he must continue his brave struggle.

@Pspness Most sites don't bother with v1-3 PS2's because of the mobo design. It's a stacked mobo design with four boards on top of one another. You have desolder them, solder the chip in, then resolder them together. It takes about three times as long to mod as V.4 PS2's and later. A pro can knock out a slim in 45 mins, so you can imagine why noone bothers with the old ones.

  • svtstang (13 Aug 2006 20:00)

Hell yeah ddp has, we just had a blast in this thread [ link ] Funny shit man, you will get a kick out of it, too bad ddp cleaned up the mess. This is what i mean about psp forum, its just wrong.

Take care Tok, talk to you later :)

  • Tokijin (16 Aug 2006 22:49)

Man the witch hunt thread was silly. I don't like the fact DVDBack got suspended. I guess I better live in fear, I'm on the list. *Quakes in fear.*

  • svtstang (16 Aug 2006 23:34)

Yes, i too am on the hit list, but I dont see how expressing ourselves could cause such trouble. Guess thats life :/

BTW, where the hell do you get all those smily's from?

  • Tokijin (17 Aug 2006 15:19)

Well sent Neph a PM, I'm gone.

Edit: Still here. Neph didn't ban me, surprised. He showed me character in that.

  • majindo (30 Aug 2006 3:41)

LTNS long time no see ive been working hard plus theres mandatory ot, hey tokster have you ever copied some software or a movie deleted the original file and then tried to make a 1.1 copy on the fly or just a regular disc to disc copy and your software tells you that what you are trying to copy is copyrighted. and if so how can i isolate the copyright file to exclude from the burn and yet add to my better quality work?

  • Tokijin (30 Aug 2006 18:04)

Sup Fiend. I went back to XS as a moderator. The admin and I resolved our differences, and I wanted to part of the team again. I left a lot of friends there, and I'm glad I got a second chance. I know how you feel about XS and I respect that. If you have anything you want to say on the matter, PM me please. Thanks.

Sup Majindo, I can't be bothered with AD anymore, same reptitive questions, and lazy BS advice. Don't copy discs on the fly, it's too unstable. Rip the image to your HD first, then burn it. For copy circumvention look to things like AnyDVD, Region+CSS Free.

  • Farman56 (05 Oct 2006 17:03)

Yo Tokijin I wanted to ask a man of ur intelligence how come the same media have different burning speeds. For example, Verbatim hav 1-4x which can only burn at rates from 1x to 4x but they also have 16x whcih can burn from 1x to 16x so why dont they just produce 16x for all their disks instead of having different speeds like 4x and 8x because 16x is compatible with more?

  • Tokijin (06 Oct 2006 17:05)

Well the highly technical explanation, I don't know. The short answer is, as DVD technology has become more advanced and reliable, the max rated speed of discs has been increased with very little drop off in quality from 4x-->8x-->16x. I don't personally use 16x media for PS2 backups, though my Xbox seems okay with it. 16x media seems to give older PS2's fits, but newer models seem okay with it. In general I recommend using quality 8x media for PS2 backups, but if you find your PS2 can read 16x backups fine, go for it.

In general, burning at half the rated speed of the disc is a good place to start. I burn at 8x on 8x discs with no probs, using Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. I've burned 100's of games like this with no visible drop off in quality from my 4x burns. 8x or 12x is the fastest I recommend burning games on 16x media. There's a lot of misinformation going around the console forums nowadays. I actually read a post that said Taiyo Yuden's were crap media the other day. At first I got my mad and posted, then I simply deleted it, realizing the poster prolly hasn't burned more than 50 anyway. Burning slower isn't always better, and you should be able to burn quality 8x or 16x media at 8x, if you have a newer burner/PC. People will scream bloody murder on that, experiment and see what works best for you.

  • Farman56 (08 Oct 2006 10:48)

Ah thanks I just asked I have 16x verbatim media but burn at 2x for ps2 backups and so far no problems. I already learnt media matters coz on my old ps2 I used imation disks but the id was CMC MAG so my laser just got crap. I get frustrated too wen people say media dnt matter.

Hi there. I'm attempting to back-up Xenosaga Episode 1 but I cannot find a valid or non-corrupted 3 disc (dvd5) ripkit anywhere. I've searched forums, etc for several weeks but no joy :( If you can help then that would be greatly appreciated as I have found nothing but broken links and one d/load with a "corrupt header."
    Thanks in advance!

hi . im trying to booktype nba street v3 but my device thing isnt in the tab things when booktyping on imgburn. i went and looked for the OEM but i cant find it. i then tried every combination and it still doesnt work. my device thing is Teac DV-W58E D.0J(D:) (ATA) and itstead of saying "unknown (FAILED)" it says "DVD-R (Changes Availiable: 21573)" or "DVD-R" when there is a "temporary" at the end. this is in the NEC tab thingy. any tips?

  • majindo (14 Dec 2006 3:34)

with mod chip use alsohol 120%, burned discs dont mess up your ps2/laser over use messes it up.i used to have a system with a mod chip now i use hd advance. you can install a hard drive in your ps2 40 gb or larger, you will also need a network adapter to power the hd. pros and cons hd advance loads faster not 100% of all games work like about 95% is whats on their site. mod chip pros no swapping, some chips allow online game play with a copy, cons no support from sony if something goes wrong.

  • majindo (14 Dec 2006 3:42)

To ray 007 i have 2 extra mod chips best bet is to google search ps2 modchip. and try one of those sites. i think the crystal chip may be the best but for online action read all descriptions. some sites offer contact info to have experienced solderers help you i found one such person in charleston but he was always soldering and busy. you may want to find an electrician or purchase a premodded system.

  • dupuy312 (17 Dec 2006 11:32)

Hello, I just read thru your step by step directions about how to back up ps2 games. I wanted to thank you very, Very VERY much for that. I am not very computor savy and trying to figure all this out. What you wrote will help me a lot once I figure out the mod chip and get my nero. Have you considered doing an e-book, you know, downloading games for Dummies and/or MoM. :)
This was the only place I could find/figure out to write a TY.

on your "ask here before posting questions" stickied FAQ, question #29 you say 'In general it's usually better to use DVD-R's when burning PS2 games. DVD+R's tend be of better quality than DVD+R's'

huh? This should be re-worded (last portion) perhaps? Just letting you know, thanks for all the info!

  • dmdarwin (09 Mar 2007 13:50)

I heard about your dms4 problem... mine is similar have you yet found an answer?

Your guide helped me out a lot but I still have a question about discs. My PS2 is a version 1, 2, or 3 and I saw in your guide that V4s and up should get DVD+R. If my DVD Burner can booktype it to a DVD-ROM, should I still go with DVD-R or instead get DVD+R?
