99 and Feeling Fine

23 Mar 2006 0:59 (Edited: 23 Mar 2006 0:59)

I get tired of telling people to use good media. It's proabably my number one beef on AD. People insist quality media doesn't make a difference. I hear "well all my other backups work, I know it's not the media." That's utter horse manure, crap media is picky with which games it fails with, but when it fails often times people waste 5+ coasters on it. I've had 180+ successful burns to TYG02/Yuden000T02 with zero coasters. Wanna know why? Quality. Taiyo Yuden media is the best DVD media on the planet, followed closely by Verbatim. Both MCC and TY use quality azo dyes which baby the PS2 laser and will produce less than a 1% coaster rate if you use good burning practices. Not all my quality scores are 99. I'll get like four or five in a row and get a random 91 or 94. The worst scan I've gotten on TY DVD+R's is a 91. Here's some evidence to back it up:

Suikoden V:

Mafia:

FFXII-Jap

Castlevania Curse of Darkness:

Tiger Woods 2006:

Onimusha Dawn of Dreams Disc One:

Digital Devil Saga 2:

Legacy of Kain: Defiance:

NBA Live 2006:

I agree with you, people are always insisting their media is good enough, I've no idea how many times I've said it..

Oh so true.. People say the disks I recommend are crap...If so why do my burner logs show over 30,000 successful and 94 fails. Yeah I'm a pirate..so? I just use ridata 8x-r. Average price and available local.
How many more "fanboys" do I have to tell that memorex/maxell/datawrite are crap?

Right the f**k on Tokijin. Good media makes all the difference. A reburn is not even worth many people's time. For a few nickels more per disc, sometimes not that much, reliable media is as easy as picking TY/Verbatim. Here's a more important FACT: The burn might be OK, but crap media causes the laser to work harder. More work, shorter life. It's like trying to walk through quicksand...you CAN do it but WTH reason for?
Just use good media people! If you don't want to listen, you're going to get....burned. LOL
