  hey i've read into alot of the forums on playing burnt ps2 games and so forth, and i've read alot of your comments. Its jsut that im new to all this playing burnt games and so forth and was wondering if you were willing to help me understand the whole process and so forth.

  Sure I can help. It just depends on exactly what you want to do with your PS2 and how much do you want to spend. What version PS2 you have if you have one. It tells you right on the back on a label. It will start with SCPH-XXXXX
  So let me know what you have and we can go from there.

  Hi smokyrain, Im just testing my luck but would you know how I could play a backup game with cheats using Action Replay Max Evo (Backup on a CD)? I have a modded fat PS2 (Matrix Infinity 1.93) and I have no problem loading ARMAX. But when ARMAX ask for my game disc and insert a backup DVD, it says error reading.
  
  The backup game loads perfectly without ARMAX but I want to play the game with cheats. I hope you could help me. You could email any suggestions to me at ramirez.tantan@gmail.com

  I know I read somewhere how to use AR MAx with a modchip, but still havent found it. Unless it was codebreaker that they used. But I wll keep looking and let you know when I find it.
  I know maybe you can try the DVD version I have uploaded on my Folder and see if that will work for DVD.
  This is the method on how to use:
  For future reference in this guide, FLIP TOP LIDS, SLIDE TOOLS,
  GHOST SWITCHES and any other trick to swap discs without PS2
  recognizing an eject, will be referred to as the EJECT EXPLOIT or
  SWAP METHOD
  DVD BACKUPS:
  
  
  1) Boot your PS2 with SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc
  
  2) Using EJECT EXPLOIT insert AR MAX EVO DVD and hit X
  
  3) Make sure you scroll down on the Black and White screen to the
  option entitled RESET IOP. Change this to always. Hit X to run
  DVDLOADER
  
  4) At the DVDLOADER screen hit X and you will have a menu. Select
  AR MAX and hit X to load AR MAX EVO
  
  5) Enter Expert Mode to find your desired codes and hit START
  
  6) At this point AR MAX EVO Will prompt you to eject and insert game
  Disc - DO NOT EJECT, just hit start game with codes then X and wait for
  the Black and White screen to load. Dont worry about the IOP option just
  hit X and let DVDLOADER load up.
  
  6) To Stop your disc from spinning in the disc tray you will need to hit
  the Triangle button.
  
  7) The Screen will lose a few words and and this is when you will need to
  use whatever EJECT EXPLOIT you use to insert the SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc
  
  8) Now hit Triangle once again and the disc will start to spin and the
  screen will reload. Now hit the X Button.
  
  9) a red screen should come up prompting you to swap dvd with EA method,
  Don't worry as all you need to do is use your EJECT EXPLOIT and insert the
  DVD game backup you want to run with codes. HIT X
  
  VOILA!!
  
  You are now running your DVD BACKUP game with codes from a BACKUP AR MAX.
  
  
  
  
  
  CD BACKUPS:
  
  
  1) Boot your PS2 with SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc

  It works great on my FAT and my Slim, but my FAT I have a Fliptop, so now problem for me to do the exploit swap.

  Hey Smokeyrain, fella Canuck here from NB.Been playin around with the memor32 card for couple weeks now,ready to try adding an Ext HDD,and Ulaunch.elf,tried for couple days, read,read,read, Downloaded your BOOT folder and tried also,changed BOOT2.ELF to BOOT.ELF so ulaunch.elf would be on R1, but still no luck, must be too thick in the skull.If ya feel up to the challenge of helpin an old fella out,lol.Drop me a Email at gutterboy2ca@yahoo.ca i'll check back often.

  tried 1.2 and 1.3 Beta both,no load with BOOT.ELF and R-1, shows memento screen and then freezes,never let it run past 5 mins, but won,t bring me to the memento Menu like is pictured on some of the links for loading USB ext HDD.Do you have a messenger or yahoo nick (smokeyrain) so you can explain to me what i'm doing wrong? got another friend working on the same exact thing and he can,t get Dev mode to work either,gotta be something we are missing in the BOOT folder.

  I would go on messenger but I haven't time to stay on right now.
  
  What Version PS2 do you have? Not that it should matter.
  
  Ok so try formatting your card, then load the 1.2e firmware again.
  Then open memor32 savegame manager.
  Copy my BOOT folder over.
  
  Then put the memor32 card in slot 1, boot it up, but just go to browser and look at the memor32 card.
  Then shut PS2 off.
  Then hold down your shortcut key and start up the PS2.
  Try the uLaunch.
  
  If that don't work I am not sure.
  
  Where did you get the 1.3 beta firmware
  
  I saw the tutorials on memento site, but not that download.
  
  That menu you see on the memento site for loading hdd, swap disk etc, is still in the works
  in the next firmware from what I can gather.

  I need your help! I have a memor32. I have used your guide (I've read most of your posts here and at maxconsole - you were the first person who came to mind!) I had things working OK. Then our power flickered and one of the saves on the card got corrupted. We tried to delete it but couldn't. If you boot the ps2 with the memor32 in, it will go to a black screen and no further. If you take the card out and boot, then put the card in, you can see it in the browser, but it doesn't give me the option of formatting it. I thought maybe the files needed to be written again, so I tried putting the memento files on it again (v1.2), but it says there isn't enough room, and that I need to format the card (or something like that, I'm at work now.) I tried several ways to try to get an option to format, but nothing (tried using Medal of Honor and Simpsons Road Rage as some people claim they have been able to format through those, but still nothing.) If I try to delete the files individually off of the memor32, I can get everything off except the US and Japanese flags, both of which read that they are 81,000+ kb. If I press delete, they just say deleting, do not remove card forever and never do anything. Any suggestions? Or should I really just let them delete for hours and see if that works?

  ^^^^^ If it helps, I have the following: Swapmagic discs 3.6, usb flash drives. I am proficient with the computer, but not so much with the ps2. I was trying to learn about using the elf files, but didn't get to try it because I couldn't get the memor32 card to work anymore. PS2 is a newer slim 790## that has the sensors blocked. Thank you again! I was investigating last night and came across mckiller, but I have NO idea how to get this on to the ps2.

  Ok you need to put it on your computer, open the Memor32 Savegame manager, then click erase card in the lower right corner.
  
  Then you can take it back to the PS2 and format it.
  
  Then back to the PC again to start all over. Apply firmware and then you can go to the Memor32 Savegame Manager again to load the BOOT file if you want too.

  Hi, Smokrain. I read your post too. I will buy a ps2 slim from canada, a friend of mine is going to bring it to me. Also I want a memor32. I wanna know if a get it right. If I put memento on it, and boot with a backup dvd, it started the game, right? But if i wanna try another .elf like swap magic or anothers do i have to have the sensors blocked? or can i boot with memor32 and load swap magic while the backup is inside. Sorry my english, I am from Argentina.

  Yes it will boot the backup dvd, as long as its patched with the memento disc patcher.
  
  Instead of using Swap Magic, you can now use the ESR Beta 7b and you don't need to have the sensors
  blocked.
  
  Just copy the ESR Beta 7b to your memor32 card by using the Memor32 Savegame Manager
  
  You still need to have the discs patched with memento patcher

  Yes it is very true it gets very hot here. Last summer we had all 100 +F temperatures and hardly any rain.

  Hi ,i recently buyed a usb hdd(500gigs),i read all about playing games using usbextreme,usbadvance and ulaunchelf,but i am facing a problem,i have a modded ps2 slim,i made a usbadvance, ulaunchelf, and usbextreme cd and when i load the cd(usb advance and extreme) in ps2,official ps2 logo appears as usual and then screen becomes blank,nothing happens after that,but when i use ulaunchelf global war 4.08 cd ,it loads the menu screen of itself,and when i select usb advance in it,again the screenbecomes blank,i already have connected my hdd to ps2.My hdd works fine cause i have already cheacked it through file browser in ulanchelf software,can anybody please help me with this situation..................

  If you are not very good with a soldering iron I wouldn't recommend installing a modchip yourself.
  But if you are I know modchip.ca has them. The Crystal chip is good.
  
  Actually my buddy HG27 in my links is very good at installing them and could help probably.
  
  Have you checked out the fmcb 1.7 on psx-scene forums.
  There are people who will install it to mc for you for just the cost of postage.

  Do you know what Version Armax you have?
  You can check the version number by looking on the underside of the disc around the dark blue center ring.
  If your version is below 3.30 you will need to send it in for an upgrade.

  If that is not your problem, I am not sure what Button on PS2 controller you should be pressing to change games.
  Did you check in your settings on the Armax, to make sure they are all correct.

  Ok that is above Version 3.60 so it should work on your PS2 Slim
  You don't need an upgrade
  
  It could very well be it does not stop spinning because you have the Magic tools installed.
  You would have to remove TOOL A to get it stop spinning, then swap disc, and put TOOL A back in.
  
  The Armax Original is wanting to EJECT so that you can swap discs, but because you use Swap Magic , you would have your sensors blocked.
  
  That is kind of a pain to do, but I think your only way to get it too work.

  You would need to have your PS2 modded either with hardware or software mod, or have a cheat disk.
  Then you need a usb flash drive .
  YOu would then use uLaunch.elf to copy from the usb to the PS2

  Regarding your post : Now , even better than SM 3.8 is ffgrievers ESR beta r7a
  Just patch your ISO with memento patcher 0.9e and load the ESR beta r7a.elf with disk in and it will boot directly.
  I have even gotten my DVD9 disks to work, that I couldn't with the memor32
  
  I would like some info about this. I have a DVD9 ps2 game that I am trying to get to work. I was wondering if you could give me some help.

  Sure , how do you play backups at the moment?
  
  You just need to patch with Toxic DL patcher first, then ESR Disc patcher
  Then burn to Verbatim DL DVD+R using imgburn at 2.4x speed.
  
  ESR is up to r9b now

  Hey there, I'm trying to get your AR MAX EVO to work with my SwapMagic 3.6.
  
  Everything works flawlessly until I hit triangle to make the disc stop spinning,
  Instead of doing so it just ejects. Well, whatever I think, and replace it with SM and hit triangle again so it goes back in.
  Then the background goes red and tells me to swap using EA method. I use my slide card and switch to my backup game hit x and it starts.
  But I didn't got no cheats.

  The one that uses Triangle to stop the disc, you need to make sure that you set the IOP to always the first time.
  
  This works fine on my slim PS2. I will test it out again on my FAT and see if I get the same problem.

  Smoky, I am in dire need of your services. I'm trying to play a back up of La Pucelle Tactics on my fat ps2 using free mcboot (version 1.8) and ESR (9 Beta). When it loads the screen turns black. I hear the in game music and sound effects just fine but no video. My other burnt games run great so I just don't get it. I've posted this issue on other forums but so far no one responded yet. Hopefully with your infinite wisdom you can help this fellow gamer out. Thank you for your time. Peace!

  Sounds like you need to patch it first with the PAL to NTSC patcher, then burn it again
  Just go to sksapps.com to find the patcher, or look for ADR patcher 0.5

  Need your help.. I just bought ps2- pal 90004. I have learnt that to run the backup games you need to get mod chip installed in the hardware. I want to know will the performace of ps2 remain the same and all the function will work normally once i get mod chip installed. It is better to install mod chip or to use swap magic.

  Yes its better to get modchip than Swap Magic. You can pretty much do everything with a modchip.
  
  It won't affect the performance of the PS2. As long as its installed correctly it will work just fine.

  1)i have a ps2 that can run backup games (mod-chip i think) but it cannot load the uLAUNCHELF disc.
  
  2) Maybe i burned it wrongly (as in the contents) cos i browsed through many tutorials
  
  3)I burned it using a CD-R initially, and later into a CD-RW
  
  4)I also do not have magic swap, alchohol 120%, AR MAX EVO or codebreaker

  Seeing I use fmcb 1.8 mostly now, I just boot them with SM 3.8 ELF, with an Original PS2 disk in tray.
  That is just an option for people using fmcb 1.8
  
  I have my SM 3.8 configured as L2, but if you don't you can just load up uLe , latest version with disk on
  Then load the SM ELF

  There shouldn't be 3 rar files, only an ISO image.
  
  You may have to open your winrar, go to OPTIONs, then SETTINGS, then choose INTEGRATION, and unclick the tab on ISO
  
  You probably extracted the ISO image.
  
  YOu need to burn that one to a DVD-R
  
  IF you want to burn to CD, then you need to download the uLaunch for CD

  Hi sir IM new here I have PS2 slim model SCPH-75001 I install FMCB 1.8 on my memory card using the AR Max tutorial even though my Ps2 is moded by modbo 4.0 it works fine because I got a complete zip folder of FMCB 1.8 containing all the needed ELF files after installing it using AR Max it woks but I want to load my USB HDD games I use the HD Loader but it does not seem tobe detecting the USB device I try put a USBADVANCE.ELF on to the INSTALL folder but after installing it the logo of the USBADVANCE is not there I try the ulaunch to launch the file but it alwalys stuck up on a freezing black screen I read some forums here a member said that change BOOT.ELF to USVADVANCE.ie then rename USBADVANCE.ELF to BOOT.ELF but it is still not working what Am I going todo plss teach me

  It could be an issue using modbo 4.0 and fmcb 1.8 together. Sometimes you need to disable the modchip to use fmcb 1.8
  If the USBAdvance.elf still freezes, it could be a problem with the type of USB drive you are using.
  OR it could be if you have a BOOT manager, you need to disable 'macrovision fix' to off

  You appear to be' the man' to go to when doing strange and wonderful things to a PS2. I am the father of a few kids who are climbing the walls. My problem involves having 2 PS2's with apparently broken lasers. They are both 'fat' PS2s and one of them has a Harddrive/network adapter (which I have no idea how to use). My goal is to bypass the CD/DVD drives in the PS2s and run games off a USB hard drive (which I will have transferred our games to via PC) OR run games from USB flash drives. I don't care if load times are slow as long as the games play. I do not have access to a modded PS2 so I am unsure of being able to load stuff onto a PS2 memory card or not. If the easiest(and cheapest) thing to do is download games to the PS2 with the harddirve already attached then that is the info I need. Again, I cannot use or get access to any PS2 with a working dvd/cd. Do you have any easy/very cheap suggestions? Thanks for your time.

  If you have a Network Adapter for the FAT PS2, then using hdloader would be best for you.

  Now because your lasers are in poor shape or don't work at all, you need to have a memory card exploit so that you would be able to launch hddloader in order to play the games off the PS2 hdd.

  There may be a way to change that. One would have to extract the ISO
  
  Drag the SYSTEM.CNF file to an open NOTEPAD , then change the PAL to NTSC
  
  It is like this right now.
  
  BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2LOAD.ELF;1
  VER = 1.00
  VMODE = PAL
  
  I am not totally sure if that will save that way or not as I haven't tried it.
  
  You would then have to use NERO Burning ROM to build the ISO again
  
  USing DVD ISO/UDF as the setting or CD ISO/UDF

  no you can't make the RESET IOP to always. That is something you have to do everytime.
  
  A straight rip of ARMAX won't work with Swap Magic. You need to use the RESET IOP with it.
  
  I have ARMAX for NTSC games and I made second one for PAL games.
  
  The NTSC with the PAL iop reset works fine on my NTSC TV and PS2. Doesn't it work ok for you?

  Yes, sorry for the trouble. I tried leaving alone the PAL setting and it works. It's only when it's the PSloader menu that if I change it to PAL settings, then I definitely see the change to PAL mode (the flipping screens).
  
  In short, it does work, I just didn't think that it wouldn't make a difference.

  Hi Stormx3, yes I remember you. I almost think you need a program like Partition Magic or Paragon to convert it for you without data loss.

  i'm using memor32 on my slim-everything ok-but i write also mc's for my friends with the necessary uLaunch-esr to play backups using my memor32 card for programming.
  
  My question: when i install the freemcboot noobie package with all the elf files s.a. hd loader and usbadvance on a normal mc, it will only display on startup the ps2 the uLaunch,esr,hdloader BUT NOT the usbadvance in the startupscreen of the PS2-the usbadvance elf file is in the BOOT folder allright but not displaying on the sartupscreen of the ps2.
  I only can load it via the uLauncher through the files in the BOOT-folder and then it starts.
  Have you any idea why i can't get the USBadvance in the startupscreen of the PS2?

  Hello, I'm new to the PS2 exploitation scene. I recently tried to play a burned copy of one of my PS1 games on my untouched PS2 and it obviously didn't work so this began my research on the subject which brought me to these forums and a few other related sites. After browsing on afterdawn for awhile you seem to be one of the most active and knowledgeable posters along with lots of personal experience, so I decided to ask you directly instead of making a post where people who may not know what they are talking about confuse the situation. My initial idea was to PM you but it seems these forums don't have that feature, so sorry for flooding your shoutbox with a wall-o-text lol.
  
  I live in Canada, have a fat PS2 v7 NTSC, my main goal was to be able to play my backed up copies of old PS1 games, as well as PS2 games should the need arise. After much looking, I was settled on purchasing Swap Magic 3.6 as the most straight forward method of accomplishing this, but right before I was about to Add To Card I read its corresponding wiki page which stated it cannot be used to play PS1 games on a PS2 because it requires a PS1 emulator to be booted first, and it recommended using Breaker Pro as being capable to play burned PS1 games on a PS2, but not PS2 games. So right now I'm stuck on being able to find a single method that will allow me to run both PS1 and PS2 backups, these forums and other sites seem to be heavily focused with PS2 games so its difficult to figure out, hence why I'm asking you. My plan of attack right now is get Swap Magic get Cogswap loaded be able to run PS1 and PS2 backups, if this will/won't work, or if you have any better ideas, please let me know.   Ok after browsing around on exploitstation forums cogswap only works with PS2 discs. It does look like the only way to play backup NTSC PSX games on an NTSC fat PS2 is to use Breaker Pro. Any further general tips you can give me such as how to avoid swapping discs before they stop spinning or whatever you can think of still greatly appreciated.
  
  On a side note, I am in absolute awe that with all the various tutorials on these forums and others that there is not one thread called How to play backup PSX games on PS2 or How to play backup PS2 games on PS2, with various sub tutorial links based on which PS2 version you have. Instead you have to try and piece together all this fragmented information, across different websites, and all of it seems to be vaguely disguised as running homebrew applications. I can only hope this is because any website hosting such direct guides would be subject to prosecution for piracy. If this is not the case, I think you would be a hero for putting something together like that.

  Hey smoky,wazzup! now again i have a problem,this time i want to use codebreaker cb9.3 patched version with HDLOADER as i have installed 40gb hd in my ps2.
  I use ulaunch elf to access my usb and launch codebreaker from there but the screen goes blank as soon as i click on cb9.2patched.elf(BOOT.ELF).I can access my games from HDloader in hdd0://__boot/boot.elf and also have place CB_launch.elf in that folder but cant get codebreaker to work!!!!!!!!!!!

  Tekken 5 is among them. Just copy the .cbc file to your USB flash drive.
  
  You will also need to add the upgrade.bin file to the root of your usb drive

  Your tekken 5 should show on there.
  
  If Codebreaker says found older cheat file and update the file
  press triangle /\ for NO

  Thats a very gud thing that ur store offers pretty cheap rates!!!!! I saw the Yakuza 3 trailer,its a blood filled manhood adult game,U must have a craze for action games,I liked Urban Reign on ps2 against Yakuza 1,2.

  Hey i cant register to codemasters project,when it asks to enter answer for arithmetic problem,i enter the answer and it says invalid format or no answer entered!!!

  Yes I like action games, I am also waiting for the new Max Payne. I hope its not as slow as it was on PS2.
  
  I am not sure about the assasins creed for psp. I played and beat the one for DS - Assassins Creed: Altairs Chronicles. I enjoyed that game.
  
  I think the psp one is the same as Assassins Creed II for pc. I could be wrong. Both will be release in later 2009

  DAY 1 files u gave me has the codes of tekken jinpachi but it is having no effect on my game?
  IS it due to PAL version cuz i think i have the NTSC Version of the Game!

  Oh yes if you have NTSC version, then you need the NTSC Day 1 file or have to add the codes manually.
  
  So get the Tekken 5 Day 1 NTSC cbc file, then to add codes to it
  
  Just press 0 (circle)
  name the code, and press START to Confirm
  
  Then you will see the name of the code, now just press left on the controller pad, and you can enter the codes in for that cheat.
  
  The dialogue on the bottom of the screen is always there to help you.

  See the method u told me i already know,but dat is for entering the codes,not the master code,i tried many different ways to enter the code but nothing really happened!(help file is bogus,it didnt really helped)
  
  If u can get me the same Day1 Files dat u gave me earlier but with NTSC version dat wud be more easy for me!

  Oh i figured out how to add codes! i made cbc file using cbcmaker and guess wat.......It worked!!!!!!!!!!

  I just bought a new PS2 90001. Date code is 9c.
  
  I read ALL your posts regarding the mod for the 90001 PS2. It seems like all I need to do is block sensor A. Is this true? I am trying to find a video or a picture of how to block sensor A. Do i just stuff the hole? Or do I need to block something else as well? Would I be able to close the lid by just blocking Sensor A?
  
  I bough the Magic Swap V4 like you said. What exactly is the Tool A? Just a cap? hehe i paid 25 bucks for a piece of plastic huh? Oh well hehe

  No there is no way to connect a IDE hdd to a V18
  The only way is to connect a USB external drive and use the USBloader 0.41 to play backups
