Thats what I thought too. I also belong to Maxconsoles.com and some guys over there have got it and tested it. They are listing what backups they have tried so far. Also the Memento hack team is working on newer firmware. So far they have this in their firrmware V1.1:
Like promised in our "to-do" list, we have added the first important feature to the Memento Firmware! Dev1 and DEV 3 full implementation.

It is now possible to launch up to four different .ELF applications from DEV1 (Memor32 memory card) and four different .ELF applications from DEV3 (USB Flash memory stick).

DEV2 (HDD boot of .ELF Files) will be implemented with next Firmware update, toghether with the HDD Support.
So I can't wait to try mine when I get it, which I hope is soon.

Ok I finally got it today.
This is what I have done.
    1. First of all, format the memor32 memory card, by putting it in into your PS2 and starting it. Follow the instruction on the screen.

    2. Download "Memor32 Savegame Manager v1.1" from

    link ]

on your PC and install it.

    3. connect Memor32 memory card with your PC

    4. Download the memento hack: [ link ]

    Execute the memento hack file.

5 Now patch the Backup, which has to be an iso with the iso patcher from memento, burn it.

After you are done, put the memor32 back into the PS2 and the patched backup into the ps2 drive, press the reset button, after this is done, wait and play.

    Also read the memento11.txt file
    Quick instructions :

DEV mode is invoked by pressing R1/R2/L1/L2 pad buttons on boot for DEV1 mode
or PAD DOWN + R1/R2/L1/L2 for DEV3 mode.
If no buttons are pressed on the joypad, memento behaves as normal (direct booting of game disc if present or ps2 browser).

ELF files are mapped as follows :

    R1 : /BOOT/BOOT.ELF
    R2 : /BOOT/BOOT2.ELF
    L1 : /BOOT/BOOT3.ELF
    L2 : /BOOT/BOOT4.ELF

To install the ELF files :

For DEV3 mode, simply make a folder called BOOT on your memory stick and copy the files there.

For DEV1 mode, you need to browse to the folder where your savegames are stored in your PC (in a default installation of the Memor32 Save Game Manager this is usually C:\Program Files\Memor32\Ps2Saves\).

Just make a new folder inside Ps2Saves and call it "BOOT".

You can now copy any elf file in there (plus any additional needed files, like roms for emulators) and the Memor32 save game manager will see is as a new savegame that you can easily restore to the memory card.
Remember to rename the elf files according to the table above and to close and restart the savegame manager when you add any files to the BOOT folder.

I did the above and it worked, it booted the elf files.

I also jsut patched Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball, put it in my slim and had the memor32 card in and it booted the game right up with no problems and played fine.

Its late so will test some more tomorrow.
The thread I got most of the info from is here:

The compatibility list is growing now for the memor32 card, and they are still working on the latest firmware.
I have no problem though with using Dev mode and booting elf files. I have hdloader.elf(renamed BOOT4.ELF) loaded and just hit my L2 on the PS2 controller while booting up and it loads fine.
Also my backup game list so far is:
    NTSC USA
    Simpsons The Game
    Scarface the World is Yours
    007 James Bond: Nightfire
    James Bond: Everything or Nothing
    Sega Eye Toy
    DRIV3R
    Life Line
Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb
    EOE: Eve of Extinction
    Spyro The Eternal Night

    PAL
    RTL Winter Sports 2008
    Half Life

There is a compatibility thread here.

how many games can you boot in the memor?

  • by lurtz343 @ 02 Jan 2008 6:46

Still waiting for that firmware though. Those guys must be on holiday, cant blame them.

  • by smokyrain @ 07 Jan 2008 8:59

You can boot lots of games with the memor32. You don't have to save all games to this mc. With a lot of games i have noticed I can load my game save from another mc, just by pulling the mc, and swapping it, or some will let me choose slot 2. And then there are some games that won't let me swap the mc. But you can store a lot of saves on this mc. Most game saves are anywhere between 76KB and 500KB. Just check the compatibility thread on maxconsole, as some guys there have like 44 games so far with the memor32.

Yes they are taking a bit longer on the latest firmware. I can't blame them either. I am sure it will be good and worth the wait.

so far i got the iso image should o patch it with the memento firmware?

are there going to be 2 files 1 for the dvd and 1 for the memor 32?

  • by Nilram @ 08 Jan 2008 16:02

    Will this play ps1 backups?

  • by stk_006 @ 08 Jan 2008 18:13

i was wondering will it boot games of usb stick/ usb hhd?

  • by icenova @ 11 Jan 2008 16:49

Ok can you copy the same files to a normal 8mb memory card?

  • by smokyrain @ 13 Jan 2008 15:17

Probably down the road they are saying it may boot PS1 games. Hard to say.
Yes they are also saying new firmware will allow booting games off usb/hdd, but right now using the DEV1 mode with firmware 1.2e you can boot elfs from the mc and thus able to boot your usb or PS2 hdd.

I have tried copying the files to a regular ps2 mc, but I just got "play halted due to malfunction"
Supposedly there is an elf file, I have not tried it.

They also have a forum now so you can ask questions or search there.

  • by smokyrain @ 14 Jan 2008 9:27

Ok there is no copying of the memor32 to another mc to make it work, and the elf file does not work. One needs their hardware to make it work.

  • by thehopper @ 17 Mar 2008 20:07

memor32 is a heap of crap. The dix at ozmodchips have no idea on how to get this crap up and running...no aftersales service...i would avoid wasting $95 on this crap!

  • by gutterboy @ 31 Mar 2008 17:25

Love this Card, its quick, convenient, awsome.Loaded with memento 1.3 Beta firmware its easiest was to Mod any PS2,any version.Pull the card out, take it to a buddies, slap it in his, its now modded, no warranty voided. How can ya beat it.Is Great for the little kids, all they do is slap a Burnt DVD-Game in like always, and you can put those original discs up for safe keeping.Personally not found 1 Back-up game that does not load with this little magic mem card.Best $59 i ever spent by far.

  • by smokyrain @ 03 Apr 2008 14:11

I agree gutterboy, its not that expensive. Its down to $55 on some sites.
I can't say much about ozmodchips, but they probably are pushing it too much maybe.

I have no problems with the memor32 either and have backed up quite a few now, and those that won't work can be swapped with the swap magic elf on the card.

    Pretty simple stuff.
