    Thanks again for the tip, Shambles. I'm dumfounded and very pleased with the results. Popped the CMOS battery and left it out for about an hour. Put the laptop back together and fired it up. To my surprise, I now have power to both hard drive and DVD drive. WOW! I've been messing around with PC's since way back in 1979. THAT would never have entered my mind. Yours is obviously superior to mine!
