    morning

  • sammorris (20 Sep 2007 20:40)

Hi Morquex, sure, have a scan through the official overclocking thread first, but I'd be happy to help you where I can, I'm no guru on overclocking, but I know the basics.

Morning to krkm120, whoever you are!

  • abuzar1 (21 Sep 2007 19:53)

How come you don't add friends?

  • sammorris (28 Sep 2007 5:58)

    Ugh, give me time!

  • Tammye (30 Sep 2007 9:11)

    Hi Sam!

Can you please help me with my Acer laptop...I'm the one with the disk read error. I have tried everything I know to do and to no avail!

    Thanks so much!

  • greensman (06 Oct 2007 19:46)

abuzar1 says, "How come you don't add friends?"

    answer: He doesn't have any......hehehehe... :P @ sam ;)

  • sammorris (16 Oct 2007 19:22)

hehe, no problems munesh, surprised you haven't heard of newegg. I was contemplating removing that link from my sig but after that comment, it's obviously useful, so it stays!

  • sammorris (16 Oct 2007 19:31)

To all: Are you not in my buddies list? If I've been in correspondance with you for a while, and I've forgot to put you on my list, please tell me, and I'll rectify it immediately!

  • abuzar1 (16 Oct 2007 19:51)

Why am I not on there?

  • abuzar1 (16 Oct 2007 21:00)

Yeah kinda. About the tide water, doesn't Ray use it? I think his card uses more than 120W.

  • sammorris (17 Oct 2007 7:37)

    You are douche, look!
On the tide water, he does indeed, but I'm unsure of his card's rated output...

  • sammorris (18 Oct 2007 15:59)

Not bad thanks Phlax, how's things with you?

  • krkm120 (18 Oct 2007 23:23)

looking at your pc specs i have the same case.

    small world lol

  • abuzar1 (19 Oct 2007 22:17)

    I'm a douche? what?

lol Anyway can I please get that bioshock thing?

    Pretty please?

  • billybob (22 Oct 2007 5:58)

Turns out payday didnt quite go how i expected...so another week or two til i get them parts :P

  • sammorris (25 Oct 2007 10:53)

krkrm120: No small word, the Lexa is popular. Granted not as popular as the 900 (I know about 4 people with it, rather than around 25-30 with the 900) but hey, it's a great case imo, and obviously in yours too if you bought it!

Abuzar: For whatever reason I'm having big issues sending a file that big. What I'll try doing is splitting it up into parts.

Phlax: Yeah I'm back studying extra A levels at the local college beforw I try for university again next year. Thanks for asking. How goes things with you?

Billybob: Ah well, patience is a virtue.

  • sammorris (28 Oct 2007 16:26)

No, I spotted it but didn't download it. Not really had an opportunity to play it yet.

  • abuzar1 (28 Oct 2007 23:29)

Sam sam sam, you can't reply back in your own shoutbox! People don't check it regularly you know! We do get weekly alerts about our own though...

Don't worry about the Bioshock thing, I already have it, and honestly I don't like the game at all lol.

  • abuzar1 (28 Oct 2007 23:30)

What I mean my that is that is was very difficult for me to switch weapons because my old ass mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel(amazing I know), so it kinda ruined the experience.

    Crysis was fun though...

  • ngamla77 (29 Oct 2007 7:23)

    sammorris

Man I have read several of your replies. My problem lies with the memory. I need to upgrade it to atleast 512mb or more. Can you have one laying around, DDR400/333 for ASUS P5PE-VM motherboard. I am in Africa and can sent my posting details if you approve me.

    Ngamla77

  • sammorris (29 Oct 2007 11:33)

I don't get any alerts for my shoutbox.... :(
I personally enjoyed Bioshock. Not as much as FEAR, but nonetheless I enjoyed it. Oh well, different people different tastes...
Get yourself a decent mouse for goodness sake, you call yourself a gamer?

Ngamla77: Unfortunately I don't have any DDR1 for spare right now, I'm keen to hang on to the stuff I've got.
512MB of RAM is incredibly cheap now, probably one of the cheapest components you can buy.

  • abuzar1 (29 Oct 2007 15:13)

Haha, that's because you haven't checked that option in your account settings!

  • sammorris (30 Oct 2007 7:39)

How do you know these things? :P

  • Lethal_B (02 Nov 2007 22:20)

'bout time you got a page up!

  • BountyBam (15 Nov 2007 19:13)

    do you have msn?

  • abuzar1 (15 Nov 2007 22:59)

What the suspension thing? I think someone figured out my old password and pulled a prank on me. Although they would have to have no life to do that, so maybe the Afterdawn system just has a brain fart.

  • abuzar1 (16 Nov 2007 9:06)

    It got suspended again!

  • ngamla77 (29 Nov 2007 11:21)

Man can you help me hook up with Lyminster. I learned that he had to buy new RAM and is still having 1gig laying around. I am down to 256mb and can not play most graphic games pls.

    Ngamla77

  • Estuansis (10 Dec 2007 2:16)

    On ASUS boards:

It sucks that you've had such bad luck with them. I have never had a failed one.

  • Estuansis (17 Dec 2007 4:53)

I think you've commented the wrong shoutbox, sam.

About the blurry pics, I think you meant that for Waymon3X6 ;)

  • Estuansis (24 Dec 2007 2:25)

Yeah, it was bad for a while. The site wasn't loading for
me and I had problems posting because of it.

But, it seems to have cleared up :)

  • abuzar1 (25 Dec 2007 7:06)

    merry Christmas

  • tripplite (11 Jan 2008 22:45)

well when ad has problems you gotta remember the site is original, it's not a vbulletin or simple machine forum that have a thousand sites registered under them, for them bugs are quickly found and are easily fixed, ad seems to run pretty well though since they add the new server space

  • greensman (26 Jan 2008 12:46)

Good morning here, Good late afternoon there... :P Hope all is going well Sam.... ;)

  • xChronox (31 Jan 2008 9:22)

hey there :P thanks for the PC help again...I can't believe I was such a noob as to cheap out on the PSU. =).

  • xChronox (07 Feb 2008 15:35)

You're right on peggle! I downloaded peggle deluxe recently and DAMN is it addictive! I got to 7-3 on adventure mode after using the unlocker (a profile with all the levels done) So I could play challenge mode! :P.

  • Estuansis (12 Feb 2008 16:16)

FINALLY, he upgraded his video card lol

Tell me though, sam. Why not an 8800GT??

  • tripplite (17 Feb 2008 1:55)

pop in pop out dam im fast............

  • Estuansis (03 Mar 2008 20:07)

The HD3870 is an excellent card sam! If it is cheaper than the 8800GT where you live, then by all means get one :)

I'm looking at the newly released 9600GT or maybe an 8800GT. The 9600 is looking to be my winner though. Only $169.99 at newegg. And faster than the also excellent 8800GS :D

  • abuzar1 (14 Mar 2008 20:27)

Sam my nigga lol. What's goin on? Playin' some Crysis?

  • greensman (21 Mar 2008 0:28)

sammy I didn't know you were black.... lol. Have a great Easter Break!! Stay away from girls, computer NERDS don't know what they're doing with girls and they get offended when you tell them to be quiet. lol. :D

  • Icanbe (27 Mar 2008 19:27)

I just read what ramosfet said to you, that was uncalled for, he is obviously an ingorant little child.

  • sammorris (31 Mar 2008 12:19)

    Well indeed.

  • greensman (05 Apr 2008 20:59)

  • alienator (10 Apr 2008 16:17)

Top man, thanks for all that help!

  • Darkmat (10 Apr 2008 19:55)

Sammorris just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I decided to get the Western Digital that you recommended. I also just order the following would like for you to let me know what you think about this system.

    Patriot Viper 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) Dual Channel Kit

    Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

    ENERMAX Galaxy EGX1000EWL ATX12V/ EPS12V/ BTX 1000W Power Supply 100 - 240 V cUL, UL, TUV, CE, FCC - Retail

Thanks again for all the help

  • sammorris (16 Apr 2008 16:44)

With no profile to respond to directly, I'll post here and send you a personal message. Patriot memory is decent and certainly fast. As for the PSU, I'll be completely honest with you, Enermax Galaxy units are overkill, underpriced and are lacking in the build quality the high end ChannelWell units demonstrate.

  • manjil (20 Apr 2008 1:55)

    Hey samo!

Do u have full version of FRAPS.
If u do have then please send it to me at boynep@gmail.com

i'll b really grateful if u send it to me.

    Thanks in advance.

  • manjil (21 Apr 2008 23:41)

    No problem mate!

    And thanks for replying.

  • pspboydee (01 May 2008 7:15)

what does overclocking your pc do?

  • theonejrs (05 May 2008 5:55)

    Hey Sam,
I'm anxious to know about the performance of that new drive. So far I'm leaning towards a 500GB WD with a 16MB Cache. I know that the 120 8MB cache drive is noticeably faster than the 160 Seagate with also 8MB cache in the Oxy-Moron! LOL!!

  • Knivez (10 May 2008 14:44)

Hey Sammorris, i installed speedfan and my vcard runs at around 50-55 when not playing games but it hits 73 when i am, is that normal? The CPU is usually 29-34

  • Knivez (10 May 2008 14:44)

    Oops dbl post

  • sammorris (10 May 2008 20:45)

    Response posted in your shoutbox.

  • Knivez (10 May 2008 20:55)

K thanks, im pretty sure its Vcard because when i click configure it says GPU and Nvidia.

  • Estuansis (20 May 2008 13:16)

I'm not against your use of an allowance for PC parts. If that's what you decide to spend your money on, that's perfectly fine with me ;P

  • Knivez (21 May 2008 21:48)

Hey sammoris its the guy you helped build a pc for, i was just wondering do u know of any problems of mixing RAM? like i bought my first two gigs of RAM and i want to add another 2 gigs but some stores have cheaper deals on other RAM, so if i use the same type of ram DDR2, but like 800mhz and my older ones were at a different setting then would that cause problems? Or is it just better to stick to the same brand the same ram ?

  • greensman (02 Jun 2008 21:44)

Guess I'm not good enough to be on your buddy list. :P You've got a RED'S fan and a cranky old goat on there and not me..... I'm so sad. :(****

Hope you're doing well and spending that MONEY wisely. :)

  • cincyrob (11 Jun 2008 18:59)

    ^^^^^^^
    CRY BABY
    lol

  • xChronox (23 Jun 2008 14:17)

    Happy Belated Birthday!

(It's me, you helped me months ago with my PC)

  • tripplite (24 Jun 2008 8:54)

oh realy....it looks so delicious though....

Stream Processors 800 Stream Processing Units -ATI
    vs
    Stream Processors: 128 -GT9800

i mean the specs seem to be the same, GT9800 has a faster clock speed though......both are @$200 with 512mb.....why go with the ATI?? you can defiantly sway me as i am an ATI fan:)

  • tripplite (24 Jun 2008 10:56)

well if thats true its a nobrainer:) ya the heat sinks are that small design:(

i have an apollo case with 3 120m fans so i think cooling is sufficient!

what do you think?? is the crossfire system any good?

  • tripplite (25 Jun 2008 14:40)

alright i decided to go with the Radeon HD 4850 Video Card....i read some more reviews and im going to get this baby....w00t thanks for saving me there....i was really going to buy the 9800GT if you hadn't stopped me:)

  • tripplite (26 Jun 2008 15:40)

it appears the only thing people have issue with is the temp of the card...i'll fix a 120mm fan right up to it : D at around 2,400 RPM i think it'll be fine:)

  • xChronox (26 Jun 2008 18:21)

Haha I'm fine my birthday is in a few months aswell, september 29th!

Having a bit of a problem with my PC but I can fix it I decided to go and jack up the CPU to 3.4GHz from 2.66, and I raised the voltage .25v. The only problem is games keep crashing. This must be overheating right? I'll put the voltage to default and set it at 3.2GHz and see if it works...

But anyway nice job on the silent PC!

  • tripplite (26 Jun 2008 19:16)

i drench out noise with 7.1 sound :)

  • tripplite (27 Jun 2008 11:35)

your right...epically when you leave your comp at night to torrent....i think at this point i might ditch my apollo case and get the antec 900, sure its kinda old but with amount of ventilation it gets i dont care:) then i'll probably get some fan controller and VIOLA cool and quiet......then i'll ditch these noisy HDD's.....

  • tripplite (27 Jun 2008 21:37)

thats why im getting the VelociRaptor....its gonna coast but im sure its worth it

    link ]

    their silent and fast......

  • xChronox (28 Jun 2008 12:05)

Yup the cypriot Lira is the strongest currency, 10,000 Lira = £5ish..I should know I'm half cypriot...

Also thanks for the advice I'll check it out, well actually I already underclocked it, right now I'm not really gaming that much so I don't need to overclock super orgasmic speeds or anything...

    ~C

  • Estuansis (06 Jul 2008 0:36)

Looking at tripplites above comments. I don't really worry about fan noise and the like. My PC isn't a wind tunnel but it does make some noise. The case is ~4 feet from my bed and stays on 24/7 365. I never even give it a second thought. I sleep just fine.

In contrast, one of my less tech literate friends loaded his case with high CFM 120mm fans and he can barely stand to be in the same room as it. Then he asks me how I got my PC to be so quiet, lol. So maybe mine is fairly quiet :) Probably thanks in part to the superb AC Freezer 7 Pro :)

  • Estuansis (09 Jul 2008 8:20)

It does get pretty loud at 100% speed. I run my AC Freezer 7 Pro at 50% fan speed at all times. Roughly 2000RPM. Nice and quiet :)

  • Estuansis (11 Jul 2008 7:18)

Hmm, weird. 25% gets me 1400 RPM, and 45% gets me 2000 RPM. 50% is actually 2163 right now. Maybe my speedfan is showing the wrong speeds? Mind you it's about the same as on my Freezer 64 Pro. What is your speed at 100%? Mine is about 2450 RPM.

  • Estuansis (14 Jul 2008 3:21)

    Wow that's really weird. 100%gets me 2567
    70% = 2473
    50% = 2163
    25% = 1409
    0% = 1176

I don't know what is different... maybe we have different revisions of the fan? Mine is quite a bit older, I think.

It's worked this way with every motherboard and power supply I've used it with. It really is extremely quiet at 50% though. I like to think my PC is actually very quiet even though I don't mind noise.

  • iluvendo (15 Jul 2008 19:08)

The locoeng blow up doll business started out where in some thread that the mods were al going broke in that aD does not pay them (which is true). So someone says there is a blowup doll made to the likeness of loco being sold on ebay (joke). Well this is the beginning of this joke and in another thread I state what an insult that loco doll business is. Well loco comes back and says he is actually selling the dolls - gotta make a living some how. Then I go off and say that the blow up I got from him has holes in it and I want a refund. So loco offer the free latex patches. So this is where you stepped in. It is a running joke between me, 7thsinger, ddp and loco. You can join in if you like. More here in the links and read the continuing comments

Thanks for all the help and advice with the pc, will hopefully sort out what i'm ordering today. :)

  • Estuansis (26 Jul 2008 1:36)

Ok I'm bored so I'm gonna start a convo :P I finally got Assassins Creed for my PC last night and I've been playing all day since I got home from work. It really is fantastic. The overall graphical look kicks Crysis' ass! :) I'm playing it maxed at 1920 x 1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF. I changed the executable name to bioshock.exe and forced 4x AA in the CP. The result is drastically better AA(this game has half-assed AA) and much less of a performance hit from enabling it. I average about 35-40FPS with a minimum average of maybe 23-26 and a maximum average of about 55-60. This is giving me comparable performance to a 9800GTX at the same settings without the renamed exe. Overall, the performance is very smooth and it's a fairly good port. Even the keyboard controls are decent.

  • Knivez (02 Aug 2008 18:59)

    Hey sammorris,
I just have a quick question, i bought [ link ] and i was wondering if i have to or i can connect it to my PC using an HDMI cable or will i be able to watch stuff in HD by simply connecting it using the normal monitor-PC cable?

  • Ian00 (08 Aug 2008 9:50)

Hey sammorris, do you use msn, or do you just use skype? I dont have a microphone and I've never used skype before.

  • sammorris (11 Aug 2008 12:56)

I use both. You can use Skype for texts if you like.

  • greensman (26 Aug 2008 16:10)

Added you to my buddy list :D

  • rtm27 (03 Sep 2008 17:00)

I had a question to ask you. Would it be possible to upgrade the processor in my laptop? I have an Acer Aspire 9410-4317. It works great still, and all I have had done to it is replace the dvd/rw drive (too much burning).

  • 7thsinger (04 Sep 2008 20:05)

    Buddied. :)

  • rtm27 (05 Sep 2008 19:46)

Thanks for the advice, I thought as much, but since you know more about the hardware than I do, figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks again, bro.

  • Evastar (06 Sep 2008 15:44)

Ok sam, so u don't add buddies unless they tell u they added u?

  • abuzar1 (06 Sep 2008 17:42)

He probably only checks his profile once a week when he gets the notification.

  • sammorris (06 Sep 2008 18:26)

I don't go around adding buddies, full stop. Tedious - you know I like you if I helped you! :)

  • dime1962 (21 Oct 2008 0:15)

where u at you in a band or looking to be?

  • sammorris (29 Oct 2008 9:37)

Not in any band, Rock Band for the Xbox 360 is as close as I really need to be :)
I'm originally from Essex (UK), but studying in York.

    Happy New Year mate.

Hi there, in a recent post you made you said... you don't need to buy THE wireless adapter to make the 360 wireless, you can do the job yourself cheaper.

If you could pass on a couple of links on this I would be most grateful, I had no idea that was possible.

I just hacked on a 120g WD Scorpio into my 360, it wasn't too difficult. I had to hex edit in the I/O ports for the VIA SATA chipset I wanted to use into the HddHackr.com app though. But it was better to do it that way in the long run as I didn't care much for unplugging the RAID arrays (in case of auto-ballsup).

Nice couple of rigs you have up there mate- quite impressive.

  • Jemborg (18 Jan 2009 14:40)

Oh yeah, I'm trying to find something on wacking on an TOSLINK port on the 360- but so far nothing concrete. I Know the pins for this on the AV port but wondered if someone had found a neat solution yet? Heard anything?

  • FredBun (25 Jan 2009 13:10)

Sammy, if I remember correctly, and I think it was in the good eats thread, you had mentioned you were not that far from Peterbourough, am I correct or has my older age gotten the best of me?

Anyway, my niece who also is from there besides my Uncle is coming to see me in the States in March, and I'm planning to go over in Sept or Oct.

  • Jemborg (26 Jan 2009 13:49)

Thanks for the link Sam- interesting thing and handy to know about anyway. Yeah, give the PS3 fanboys a serve- they're arrogant asshats. Especially one particular moderator whom I won't mention here. lol. (Actually watch out he's really vindictive). I'm well off enough to own all the consoles if I wanted, and I would bolt out and purchase a PS3 in a flash... if it was actually worth it!!! (underlined :D) ie. lived up to it's hype, had more than a handful of exclusive games that pwned and had a robust controller that wasn't in the words of one mate, insufferably horrible (Yahtzee in ZP calls them squidgy).

I still use my PS2... it's got a hard drive in it to play games off (al la Xbox). At lease that way the crap OD might last a bit longer lol.

Well, I'm a little more 360 savvy. I modded a few of them to play backups too. Natch, I use the TOSLINK out of the AV socket already. Trouble is I use HDMI too. The work-around is to rip the cover off the HD AV plug (with optical out) so you can fit the two plugs in at the same time. [link]http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50[/link] OK, this works fine... as long as you DON'T change AV channels on the telly (say, to see if a show's started), this causes your 360 to reboot! A right pain, you wouldn't want to be copying a game at the time. M$- the bastards- offer a thin adapter for optical out, however it's really rare and fucking stupidly expensive. So presumably there is something about the HD AV plug that sets this off, some sort of conflict. Now, I have a diagram for the AV socket's pins, and I've isolated which three are for the TOSLINK (or SPDIF for that matter)... I was just hoping some elegant boffin somewhere had got ahead of me :) Well, that's a bit long-winded but I wanted you to get what I was on about. I want to drill it straight onto the 360 chassis!

I've added you to my friends list, I'm an Aussie btw.

PS. Monster cables are a waste of money imho. A bit of a con.

you don't have to laugh at me

and yeah your not telling me nothing I don't know I bought my system from cyberpower 1yr 6months ago with a striker extreme in it after 5 of those gem's in 8 month's

cyberpower upgraded[if you can call it that] me to this gem
the first one ran 48 hours's , I'm on my third one now just replaced it again 10 day's ago

this one has the newest BIOS although I had to flash It my self since ASUS said they would but .....UHHH.... forgot

this one runs very good , temp's are really low [ 27-29 C] even @3.82GHz they only rose by 1-2 degree's after 2 Hr

point is I know I got a pretty paper weight it's just a matter of time as history has shown me with the Striker series

so I just figured I've got it running and while it's running I may as well learn a little and use it as intended before it shit's it self again and before warranty run's out and I can't RMA it

see so far 8 motherboards and the only one I paid for was the first and I still have 2 more years of warranty

and of course my time , labor and headaches

so if I'm gonna screw it up now would be the time

so If you can help a old fat man

I don't want to run it at 4.0Ghz for ever I really just want to know if I can get it there and how to do it kinda a learning experiance

  • haskins69 (12 Mar 2009 10:21)

Ok I sat around last night and had some thought's which I believe were confirmed by anouther person on tom's hardware

    so here you go:

I thought if you up voltage to CPU to overclock it [giving it more power to go faster] and if you have to raise voltage on memory to install 1066Mhz ram [usualy from1.8v to 2.1 v for 1066 ] which gives it power to go faster

then if I turn down multiplier and raise the voltage to memory then I should be able to get some more out of it

maybe not 4.0Ghz but I was hoping to hit maybe 3.91Ghz 435/1740 FSb or 3.96Ghz 440/1760 FSB

please check my thinking and let me know

  • greensman (30 Mar 2009 11:41)

How you doing boy?? Been busy lurking and playing daddy. :) Hope all is well for you and your family. :D

  • greensman (03 Apr 2009 15:34)

I'm pretty good, thanks for asking. :) Contemplating reformatting at least 2 machines as the OS is about 1-2 years running and I'm also thinking about a little rebuild for the kiddies machine. They need something in their bedroom to be able to play with. lol.

    Have good one mate!!

  • Estuansis (11 Apr 2009 9:21)

Just saw this while lurking the forums!

    link ]

    That's not a video card, that's RAM.

Haha, I know he corrected himself but it was the best laugh I've had in a long while XD

  • Estuansis (20 Apr 2009 4:06)

It was the first thing I saw when I opened that page. I busted a gut laughing :P

  • Estuansis (12 Jun 2009 9:54)

Hey just for reference how many posts are you up to now? I noticed you've basically posted in every hardware thread for the last 2 years. Gotta be pushing 30,000 posts by now methinks :P

  • Estuansis (12 Jun 2009 9:56)

Also, what's your last count for total storage space? I swear you gotta be hoarding at least 10TB now. What the heck do you fill them with???
