Hey dude just added you,i rarely look at my shoutbox.

  • Hunt720 (01 Mar 2008 10:41)

Hey Ryu, this probably isn't the place to ask you this... but I can't find a way to message you on this sit... I'm pretty fresh to it. I'm using Mpeg Mediator to convert .vob files to divx and I'm just wondering what parameters/settings you reccomend to get the best quality to filesize ratio. I'm using the HD Divx settings but its mostly trial and error. If you have any tips let me know... sorry to put this on your shout wall...

  • Ryu77 (01 Mar 2008 20:28)

Hunt720, please create a profile... That way we can continue this conversation via Private Messages. :-D

    thanks for the add!
see you around the dvd forum!

  • Ryu77 (11 Mar 2008 23:52)

I don't hate the contrast figures. There is extensive proof that they are eggagerated and there is no industry standard for measuring contrast ratios. The Sony XEL-1 is the exact TV we were having the discussion about on this thread... [ link ]

Did you read the articles I posted?

    1) [ link ]
    2) [ link ]
    3) [ link ]

Please understand that I am not saying that the new Sony doesn't have a superior contrast ratio but it's probably more around the 50,000:1 mark (2 and a half times better than the best Plasma). I do believe that the picture quality is amazing but to quote a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, over LCD's and Plasma's barely hitting the 20,000:1 mark (is this even a true number??) is just plain ridiculous.

  • 7thsinger (12 Mar 2008 9:05)

  • murph99 (13 May 2008 18:37)

Are you familiar with the program mkv2vob? If so I could use some help. I'm trying to convert a mkv file to a dvd9 to play on ps3. I tried converting it to m2ts then burning it with Nero Express but it failed. I'm lost on how to convert this file correctly. Can you please help me?

Also, just curious can an mkv be converted to dvd9 as an hd dvd to be played on a hd dvd player? Thanks

  • Ryu77 (13 May 2008 19:11)

murph99, I have created 2 threads for this type of discussion. Please scan through the thread first. You might find that your questions have already been answered. Please post any further questions there. :-)

    Here's the links: [ link ] [ link ]

PS: I would always recommend scanning backwards through a thread. With the nature of open source software, large changes can be made to the software in a relatively short time. This could mean that the steps to obtain certain results could change also.

  • Z28BOYZ (28 Dec 2008 14:59)

hey Ryu77, so i'm having problems with tmuxer and my 720p and 1080p mkv files. first 1 iron man 720p can out great video and audio except of the green bar on the bottom on playback on ps3. people keep saying that is because it wasn't a tru 1280x720. so i decided to get a true 1080p mkv which i did. Crank in media info showed as 1920x1080 so i followed the same steps as i did for iron man but i only got audio with no video, i did notice it was 5.1 so like tutorial said i moved it down to 4.1 with no luck? can u pm me or email me at vincez28@rogers.com as it seems that ur the only reliable source out here. i have tried other methods like Gotsent and megui with no luck.

  • evo007 (30 Dec 2008 7:02)

hey mate, how goes it? ive read plenty of your posts which are very informative so im turning to you for help if you have time?

i downloaded a movie around 2.5gig in a MKV. i wanted to convert it to MP4 or likewise in order to play it directly from the PS3 hard drive. i dont want to stream. original conversions didnt work out as the video resolution changed - whereby it was more squashed up (more narrow horizontally) than the original resolution. i managed to sort that out ok. however now i have an issue with the audio, whereby all my attempts to extract the audo part (48.0KHz, 6 channels, AAC (version 4) (LC) (SBR)) result in either getting only a 2 channel version, or a same 6 channel version at only 24.0KHz.

I felt a sense of relief today when i compiled the files back into the MP4 and the video resolution was fixed, only to find that the audio AAC file had only the 24.0KHz and played back only the background noise (music, sounds effects, etc) and not the actors voices.

any ideas? i presume its a setting in a decoder/codec somewhere that all the programs like gotsent, tsmuxer, yamb, etc all use - ive tried them all without success.

any help would be awesome! cheers!

  • spaniard8 (08 Jan 2009 21:09)

Hey Ryu, I didn't know how to contact you so this probably my only choice. I read one of your threads and you seem really knowledgeable in subject and I was wondering if you can please help me.

    My situation is as follows:

I just got a brand new Philips 1080P 120Hz HDTV. It doesn't have any vga nor dvi connections. I am trying to connect my computer that only has a vga connection. I bought a vga/dvi-i adaptor and tried using a dvi-d/hdmi cable, but no luck. Is it because the signal coming out of the computer is analog and the cable is only digital? Do you think it would work if I get a dvi/hdmi cable that is analog at the dvi end of the cable?

If not, any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid buying a new video card, but that may be only option.

Thanks in advance for you help

  • Ryu77 (09 Jan 2009 15:30)

spaniard8, yes the reason it isn't working is because VGA is an analog signal. The DVI-I adapter is compatible with both digital and analog. However, HDMI/DVI-D is digital so it is not compatible.

Doesn't your TV have a regular VGA PC input?

PS: Also, for those that leave messages here requesting help, I would prefer a PM (Private Message) so I can help on a more personal level. I really don't want to turn my shout box into a help thread. :-)

  • spaniard8 (09 Jan 2009 20:53)

I'm apologize Ryu, I must be internet illiterate or something, but I can't find the way to PM you although that was my initial intent.

That is what I figured the problem was. But what about this? There are hdmi/dvi-i cables that are both digital and analog at the dvi end, but I'm assuming the hdmi end will still be digital. What do you think? Will it work if I use it that way.

Again, I apologize for using your shoutbox and thanks for the help.

  • dalspaugh (30 Jan 2009 2:07)

with so many choices.... all i want to do is rip my blu rays to my pc, which i have done one with anydvd hd. but i want to convert that to wmv so i can stream it to my xbox 360. you look like the best one to ask so, what do i need to do this fairly easy. oh course it's the m2ts file but what would be the easiest program to use to convert it to wmv and not lose any quality. i don't want to convert it to 720p i want to keep it at 1080, but i would also like to do just the main movie.... please help!!!!!!!thanks sorry couldnt figure out how to send you a pm.

  • dlparson (15 Feb 2009 18:54)

hello i'd like to see if i can get some help...got a hdtv have it all hooked up .......problem is not very clear what can i do different?? thanks in advanced

  • DARKJEDl (25 Feb 2009 18:13)

Hi I Apologize in advance for asking for your help, but it seem you are very Knowledgeable and highly respected on this forum. I am a huge star wars fan and found them in HD and got very excited, So I thought I would give it a try. I spent a good 2 weeks downloading the films. They were of course uploaded in 25 fps, ac3 audio, well 2 of the 6 were in poorly captured stereo. I have a ps3 and a 1080p HDTV want to play them in1080p 24fps or 23.976 all with ac3. I have all the movies and can rip the original ac3's for better sound. Please help I just want to watch star wars in 1080p HighDef with 5.1 sound, and buying them is not an option at the current time. A clear walkthrough would be a extreamly helpful. If You can direct me to a forum or give me some feedback I would be very greatful.
