My Journey Here

(15 Jul 2008 23:44)

As I was trying to decide what I wanted to write down in my very first blog anywhere, I decided to go and post as to how I got onto the message boards here at After Dawn.

Well, just over 3 years ago, I decided to get a laptop, which had a dvd/rw drive. I had never copied any dvd's, so I was a lil hesitant about trying something new. I finally decided to try and do this myself....with disasterous results. I didn't know about which programs to use, encryption software, single layer/dual layer dvd's...nothin.

After a few weeks, I started to surf the web to finally see if I could do this properly. Everytime I searched aD was either at or near the top of the results. I began to start searching thru the forums, and began to learn about the programs, software, and which disks to use. With this new knowledge....it still was not easy, but I didn't have as many problems as I did before. It took time, and within a few months (in between working 60+hrs a week, transportation to and from work {public transpo sucks...takes an hour each way to and from work}, eating, sleeping, surfing, and trying to have a life) I finally got the hang out of this, and started backing up my 150 dvd's.

I had mentioned to a few at work what I was doing, and a few began to ask me if I could help them copy their own dvd's. I was willing to teach them, but they wanted me to have all the fun myself!! So, I began to help them back up their library, as it gave me more practice burning dvd's.

Since then, I had became a "professional lurker" here at the forums....watching and reading the posts, but never registering to ask any questions or help out. Why I didn't....I have no idea.

So, the past 3 years have been me STILL trying to backup my dvd library (which is over 900) and teaching a few friends how to do it themselves. One day, I got hit with the idea to go an register an account on aD, and try and contribute.

So, here I am. 5 months later, I now contribute when I can, help out when I can, ask for help when I need it. Do I know it all....nope. Do I have alot to learn....of course. Can I help others while learning....as much as I can. Do some of the questions get repeated.....always. Do I get fustrated seeing the same quesitons over and over....NO COMMENT!!
