This is my 1969 - ish Dan Armstrong "see - through" , another great sounding but very weighty clear guitar . It is more versatile than meets the eye for a single-pickup guitar !
The 3 - way switch positions are 1: tone control at zero , 2: standard tone + volume , 3: wide open with controls bypassed . The pickup is an early Bill Lawrence blade - magnet design mounted in a block of hard rubber with banana plugs , which allows you to pull the humbucker out and replace it with the matching single coil . The pickup slides out through the little cutout beside without having to loosen the strings . Swapping the pickups is quick and easy - I have done it between songs in a gig !
Joe Perry (Aerosmith) , Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) , Rick Richards (Georgia Satellites) and more recently Dave Grohl (Nirvana , Foo Fighters) all played the "see-through" Dan Armstrong , and on my recent trip to California I saw Geezer Butler's bass (Black Sabbath) in the display window at Guitar Center on Sunset in LA !

That is handy the way they made it easy to swap the pickups. This looks very cool from in front too. Yeah that display window is a whole museum of rock with all kinds of cool things to look at. All those musician and music types' handprints on the ground were fun too. Way more interesting to me than the movie star ones a few blocks away. How does this one compare weight wise- you say it is heavy too?

  • brainstrm (28 Feb 2006 21:15)

Not quite as heavy as the KillerViews - more like 10 - 12 pounds !

  • emossuck (01 Mar 2006 16:02)

jesus christ D: thats still mega heavy D:

  • charlie8j (01 Mar 2006 16:23)

love it, love it, love it, wish you played it more often...haven't seen this one out in ages !!

  • brainstrm (02 Mar 2006 11:25)

Yes it is heavy but like the others is worth it for the heavy sound !
I left in a hurry for work one night and left this one sitting in the stand after a gig - it is so clear I walked right past it and didnt even miss it til someone knocked at the radio station bringing it to me from the club !

  • dsstrlght (02 Mar 2006 14:13)

    Good thing they did!

  • brainstrm (03 Mar 2006 10:27)
