This is the twin to the red El Maya V - this one had a hard life ! The two V's were hanging in a store together when I first found them . I got the red one first , then this one several years later . It has been all together with a chrome Floyd rose but at the moment I have nabbed parts from it to use on more worthy projects . This one has always been a dog but eventually I want to rehabilitate it ! ( Again ! hahaha )

hahaha It has a better life now than it did - this poor guitar suffered a lot of indignities before I got it ! It has been stuck into the snow and left there to be laughed at , stolen and later recovered - I saw this one go through a lot of abuse over the years . Since its red twin was such a good instrument my heart sort of went out to it , thinking maybe with proper care and parts it could be that good . I had been watching for it to end up for sale and one day I got a tip on it and got lucky . I saw it come in and it was on the hanger for only as long as it took to pay for it ! I brought a Floyd Rose nut and bridge with me and we put it on that first day if I remember correctly . It even lives in a case now ! 8 )
Unfortunately the neck had been sanded on the back - a lot - I usually prefer this but not to the point of changing the shape . It was a slightly thicker D-shape like the red one but now is sort of a yucky triangularish not comfy shape . The other thing to consider about sanding a finished neck is the fret edges - sanding can take away the finish under the fret edges , leaving them sticking out enough to catch the little E string . This one had that problem anyway but Really has it now - it will either need a new neck or serious attention to the present one . Since the shape is all messed up , I vote for a new Warmoth D-shape Jackson style neck - the maple body is worth it !

  • dsstrlght (01 Apr 2006 19:24)

What else would it need besides the neck?

  • brainstrm (22 Apr 2006 14:35)

    hmmm ...
A Floyd rose bridge , a Bill Lawrence L500XL and Dimarzio Super 3 pickup set , and 3 hours with a screwdriver , soldering iron , and most of the 7 words you can't say on television 8 )

  • dsstrlght (24 Apr 2006 7:15)

But we'll charge Comedy Central a lot to run it.

I never got to see my South Park character. Was that on the crashed hard drive?

  • dsstrlght (11 Nov 2006 23:12)

One of the long term goals should be to help get these cool guitars back in great playing condition. It's such a shame to let them sit when they look that good. It can be done.

  • dsstrlght (11 Nov 2006 23:12)

    will be
