This is one of my favorites , a mid-80's El Maya Randy Rhoads V replica . Lots of people think it's a real Jackson (must be the Jackson logo hehehe) but actually it is a high quality copy . I have played several Jacksons and I really like this one more . It has been super hot rodded with one of my first Bill Lawrence L500XL's , a 70's DiMarzio PAF , and a gold-plated Floyd Rose bridge with a black chrome nut . It is a really special instrument , maple body and neck , very bright sounding but versatile - the L500XL is screaming , the PAF has a nice bluesy sound .
I have done a lot of recording with this one - it is on most of the Project : Brainstorm songs and I have played it a lot live too . I only use other guitars for recording if I need their specific sound or a different tuning - this one stays in Eb , a half-step low so I use others to get standard or drastically lowered tunings occasionally .

top image has now been dispaced tonight, by another one of your guitars! This time it's the BC Rich. The domination continues!

You were playing this one the very first time I ever saw you...loved it and you then and now...

  • dsstrlght (01 Mar 2006 23:55)

    I sense a pattern here...

  • brainstrm (02 Mar 2006 12:44)

The checkerboarding ? Not on this one - but for a few weeks it had a Japanese flag pattern in white contact paper . ( blush ) ( it was the 80's - everyone was doing it 8 )

  • dsstrlght (03 Mar 2006 16:54)

Was that before of after the Walk like an Egyptian phase?

  • dsstrlght (04 Mar 2006 9:16)

I'm so mean. It is a beautiful guitar.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 13:20)

I need a second chance on photographing you with this one. It was too early in the session when you switched guitars and I was still trying to figure out working within the confines of the space and climbing around and under you guys without getting steppped on or being in the way.

  • brainstrm (29 Mar 2006 4:05)

Yes indeedy 8 ) You did a really good job with that ! This is one of my best playing / sounding / most comfortable guitars and I really should play it more .

  • dsstrlght (01 Apr 2006 19:24)

    lets

  • dsstrlght (09 Apr 2006 11:53)

How does it compare sizewise with the blue one? Any chance you can bring it next time? After all they let you play the blue one on the plane?

  • brainstrm (22 Apr 2006 14:40)

Oh wow - it's as long as the Dean ML ! In its hard case it's really big - I bet they wouldn't even let me on with it with all the pointy stuff ( if they are afraid of nail-clippers ! )

  • dsstrlght (24 Apr 2006 3:26)

I remembered it was long but not that it was that long. Ok dang. Guess I need to go out there again! For a lot of reasons including retaking the shots your computer ate last time.

  • dsstrlght (11 Nov 2006 23:09)

    I love this one.

  • brainstrm (13 Nov 2006 13:08)
