This is my tobacco sunburst 70s Ibanez Iceman . I originally did the front in cut-up pieces of gold mylar sticker to hide the huge nasty ductape repair to the output jack area . The pictures don't do it justice - it is very reflective and looks really good in room light or on stage ! This one sounds and plays great , even with the stock pickups .

So...what happened to the "output jack area"?

  • brainstrm (26 Jan 2006 18:48)

Good question 8 ) I didn't do it - the previous owner was sitting in the floor playing , and stood up while stepping on the cord . Due to the jack being mounted to the face of the guitar , this put a 90 degree yank on it , breaking a 4 inch chunk out of the front ! It pulled out the jack-plate and the wood around it ; the "repair" didn't look very good , lots of wood glue and ductape - yuck ! Otherwise it was a great guitar so I decided to rehabilitate it . I had been looking for a Paul Stanley model Iceman for years - the Ibanez KISS version was black with cool inlay and mirror parts , and his later ones had custom broken mirror tops .
I cut up about 25 shiny gold radio station bumperstickers for the mirror decal - the logos went on the case , the borders on the guitar .

I bet it's great under stage lighting!

that dumbass xDDDD hahhaha the whole wood-glue thing...wood-glue is like my dads home project jesus D:

  • brainstrm (10 Feb 2006 22:32)

Not that wood-glue is a bad thing , just not as a substitute for the wood itself ! For future reference , especially with musical instruments , it is important to save every little broken piece and sliver of wood , and not to disturb the jagged bits on either broken part . A good repair guy can piece these bits together like a puzzle and make it all fit again , and the repair is stronger with more wood , less glue . For example , I dropped my Electra X910 Explorer when the strap-lock pin pulled out of the guitar - the headstock hit so hard it broke right off . (Mahogany doesn't hold stresspoint screws well in the long run , and as a neck is much more flexible and fragile than maple.) I saved the headstock and all the splinters I could dig out of the carpet , and it all fit back together with little wood glue or filler . 10+ years later it still plays fine and looks OK considering such a critical break !

    cool! xD

You look so good in motion when you're totally into your playing and have the space to move around with it. I be this one would cast some really wild reflections all around.

  • charlie8j (02 Mar 2006 8:41)

I have always loved this one...I would love to get you one of these actually painted up this way...(with no wood glue and ductape !!) hahahaha

  • brainstrm (03 Mar 2006 12:13)

Thankya ! It is pretty flashy 8 ) It isn't as blinding as if it were truly mirror pieces but it is extremely reflective - I see light from it moving all over the room when I play it live !

  • charlie8j (22 Apr 2006 9:11)

i know..hey that would make some really cool pictures !!! can i take some... please !!!!

  • brainstrm (22 Apr 2006 15:01)

Probably 8 ) I need to put a new volume control in ( the original is stuck wide open ) but now that I use the Whammy Pedal this one would be a good gig guitar again ! Of course we can do pictures just for jollies but I'll still have to plug a cord in so people don't make fun 8 )

  • charlie8j (23 Apr 2006 13:55)

wonder if we can get some red or blue light bulbs....wonder if that would even look the same...if nothing else, the next davestock maybe. they always put up a light rig...hmmmmm. anyway, as for plugging a cord in, you have to really be playing to get the proper effect anyway !! you just don't make the same faces when your fakin...hahahaha !!!

  • dsstrlght (24 Apr 2006 7:25)

you have to do something sooner than a whole year from now yikes!

  • brainstrm (25 Apr 2006 17:58)

wow yes I would hope so ! If I have to take a year off I'll combust !

  • dsstrlght (26 Jul 2006 17:08)
