    Very useful guide...

  • by amymac @ 27 Dec 2007 8:05

    I have followed all the instructions on posting and when I put the pandora's battery into the PSP SLIM with 3.60 sony firmware & the PSP Fat with 3.52 Sony Firmware and the green light comes on but it doesn't boot or anything to give me an option to install, just keeps the black screen.

    I have a PSP Slim with 3.71 M33-2 Firmware which I created the Magic Memory Stick with. I also created the Pandora's Battery in the same PSP.

    I used Win xp to create the Magic Memory Stick with the Easy Installer.

    The Pandora Battery was made with my PSP SLIM that has the 3.71 M33-2 Firmware.

    When creating the Pandora Battery I followed the instructions PANDORA GUIDE: THOSE THAT HAVE CUSTOM FIRMWARE PSP

    Anyone can offer any assistance would be appreciated.

  • by larrylje @ 28 Dec 2007 11:14

    Try using a diffrent Memory Stick.

  • by inkz @ 28 Dec 2007 18:45

    what happen to the links does it mean it doesnt on slim cuz im trying to dongrade my slim and i have a phat one

  • by larrylje @ 28 Dec 2007 19:34

    The previous Easy Installer that I used works for SLIM but you have to do a blind install because it didn't have video support for the PSP SLIM. This updated version uses an easy installer that will let PSP SLIM users actually see the menu when doing the instillation.

    Hi I am trying to understand the instructions completely before I attempt this. I want to upgrade my FAT PSP running 3.40 OE-A first. Then I want to convert our new SLIM PSP.
    I want to be able to set my FAT battery back to normal when done. I think it possible to do this, but that process is a bit cloudy in the instructions.
    As I understand it the following will back the battery up:
    Select "backup battery eeprom to ms0:/eeprom.bin"
    But what is the command that restores it ?
    Is it:
    "flash only serial from mso:/eeprom.bin" ?

    Why only the serial? What are we losing when we do this?

    Thanks.
    Rick

  • by rick78 @ 29 Dec 2007 4:54

    Sorry. I did not mean that the instructions were bad at all. They are very very good. It is me that just doesn't fully understand it. I just don't want to lose a good battery if I can help it.

    Thanks,
    Rick

  • by larrylje @ 29 Dec 2007 22:01

    When you convert a Battery to a Pandora Battery the only modification that is being done is to the serial number of the Battery.

    It is safer to only restore the original serial back to the battery using the eeprom.bin backup. This not altering anything on the battery but the serial itself.

    Just want to say thanks to the ones that responded to my cries for help. I went out and purchased a new memory stick (3rd one I tried) and it solved all my problems. I now have a working Pandora battery and new firmware.

    larrylje - Thanks for the guide and the new update where you see the prompts on the SLIM. This was great and I can't understand why my previous sony memory sticks did not work but it's all fine now. Thanks again you have made this process fairly painless.

  • by pgsmith68 @ 31 Dec 2007 9:58

    amymac, what memory stick's didn't work and what one did work?

    Size, brand so on please.

    Thanks

    i need help, im confused to as which psp i should be using in each part.

    I believe that at the beginning i should use the CFW psp (but with my battery from the 3.71 psp)

    right?

    would really appreciate it if someone can take me through the guide in terms of what psp/battery i should be using

    i have 2 psps, one is my friend (version 1.5) and the other one is mine (version 3.71)

  • by herbdizle @ 02 Jan 2008 6:22

    when i run the the pandora battery creator, it says that the game could not be started, i also try doing the OS pandora creator n it says the same thing.
    i have the new slim psp n my dumb self upgraded it to the new 3.80 that u can find in the psp web page. san anyone help me here?

  • by badqct9 @ 02 Jan 2008 8:13

    do you have cfw

  • by larrylje @ 02 Jan 2008 13:36

    @menxtina

    The only issue you will have is if your PSP is a SLIM in this case your Battery will not fit into your frineds CFW FAT PSP. So in this case the only option you have is using your friends Battery.

    If you have a FAT PSP then yes you can use your Battery in your friends CFW FAT PSP.

    @herbdizle

    You need a 1.50 or CFW PSP to use this guide.

  • by bilfra @ 02 Jan 2008 14:29

    Thanks for the great guide, and for arranging the required files so nicely.

    Looking around the net it seems like some are confused about whether or not the new slims which are being released with 3.72 fw out of the box are safe for this method.

    Originally you had to use the 3.60 "blank screen" cfw update method which actually fails for these new slims (since they're not 3.60).

    I just wanted to let everyone know that using this guide and the files supplied I was successful in taking a coworker's slim 3.72 to cfw 3.71 M33-2 (and then, of course, to M33-4 using the patcher).

  • by herbdizle @ 02 Jan 2008 18:46

    do u know know how i can get the 1.50 or CFW?

    @larrylje

  • by HHiker @ 03 Jan 2008 1:38

    Okay I managed to do everything right and I got 3.71 M33 -4 installed but when I tried to get it to work on my bricked PSP, the PSP doesn't load in XBM it just shows the background and that loading symbol on the lower right hand corner and nothing else appears...does anyone know what the problem is and the solution?

  • by spydah @ 03 Jan 2008 22:04

    I went through the whole process with my custom psp fat M33-2 3.71. i made my extra fat battery pandora and tried to use it in on my slim which it does nothing but give me a black screen with just the green light for the power. i dont know what else to try i have re-did this like 12 times now.

  • by Smokingq @ 04 Jan 2008 0:58

    larry, i need your help to clarified something. the first time i was able to create a magic memory stick and a pandora battery to flash my psp slim. but after that was done, i converted the pandora battery back to a normal battery. i kept the magic memory stick, didnt format it. now i want to create a pandora battery for back up. when i put my orignal magic memory stick in it looks different. there was a corrupted data file and OS Pandora Battery Tool 0.3 doesnt have an icon, just a gray icon, and the rest of the icon, i was not paying attention to it and see how it was. but when i first created, i know there were no gray out icon in the memory stick.
    i formated the memory stick and created another magic memory stick, following the same procedure, this is what i get. can you tell me if this is ok or it is corrupted?
    1. icon for pandora's battery creator
    2. grey icon and said corrupted data
    3. grey icon OS pandora battery tool 0.3
    4. 1.50.2 icon said m33 3.71 update ver 1.50
    5. icon for 3.71 m33-4

    looks very different from the first time i created the magic stick. is it ok to used this stick or should i created another one? the Univ file was download from your guide here.

    thank you larry.

  • by larrylje @ 04 Jan 2008 14:53

    @HHiker

    Could be a hardware problem with your bricked PSP. If the Magic Memory Stick and Pandora Battery worked fine on your other PSP then it should on the bricked 1 as well. Unless there is a hardware issue with the PSP.

    @spydah

    Try using a different Memory Stick. If your OS is Vista this can cause issues as well try using the easy installer on XP.

    @Smokingq

    Yes that is the correct. Everything seems to be fine on the Memory Stick.

    The "2. grey icon and said corrupted data" is normal. it is apart of the "1. icon for pandora's battery creator" Application.

  • by spydah @ 04 Jan 2008 17:34

    I am using Xp witha 1gb official Sony Mem Stick. I tried maybe like 8 different guides and so far the same result. Currently i tried to use the same thing on my PSP fat and it gives me the 3 options one is the downgrader second is to back up the NAND dumps and third to restore the NAND. It only works on the Fat no the Slim. My Slim has official 3.71 and its the white Star Trek version. I have switched mem sticks 3 times. When i place the mem stick in and pandora's battery in on the Slim i now get a lit screen but there isnt any thing going on with the mem stick like on my Fat PSP. So i dont know. I have pushed X aswell as the other buttons to see if anything happens. Any advice would be great.

  • by andyxgt @ 04 Jan 2008 21:14

    i tried this 2 time and it did not work, i get the same files as smokingp does. I backup my battery then turn into a boot battery turn my psp off take out the battery and put it back in and my psp stays black that all it does, am using a 2gb memory. Any ideas why is not working. I made a pandora battery before using Pandora GUI and it work just find it would fix any brick psp but i want to do this but is not working. Please contact me if u have any ideas. Personal email andyxgt@hotmail.com

  • by andyxgt @ 04 Jan 2008 22:17

    hey i got it working

    just make sure u format FLASH1 before starting the installation so if you try your first time and it did not worked format flash1 before starting the next installation, again the reason why it did not work the first time was because I already made the pandora with other programs and everytime you try to make a pandora files will be written on flash1 thats y must format every single time if you don not get the installation done right.

  • by shadde @ 04 Jan 2008 22:25

    i cant use my psp becuase when i have my mem card and bettery in that i made the magic mem stick and pb on it takes me right to the pb menu....do i have to dump the nand?

  • by shadde @ 04 Jan 2008 23:34

    ok nvm i got the battery to work normally with pandora on it thx alot man

  • by Smokingq @ 04 Jan 2008 23:41

    thank you larry! works like a charm. i know have a extra pandora battery and a magic memory stick for backup. but just 2 questions.
    1. in the long run when the pandora battery charge runs out, can i just put that battery into a fat psp or slim and charge up the power?
    2. i currently have a fat psp with a TA-082 motherboard, running 3.52m33-4. someone posted in the forum that i can use the magic memory stick and go straight to 3.71m33-2 then to 3.72m33-4. Is this true? just stick in the magic memory stick and upgrade to 3.71m33-2 and then upgrade to 3.71m33-4? (with the pandora battery in the psp)

    thanks larry for all the help.

    @andyxgt

    Try a 1gb memory stick. From what I've read, people recommend an official sony memory stick no larger than 1gb.

  • by Smokingq @ 04 Jan 2008 23:45

    andyxgt

    ooops.. nvm. somehow the post got lagged behind.

  • by andyxgt @ 05 Jan 2008 0:40

    Yes Smokingq! u can charge the battery with the charger or psp it really does not matter how you charge it as long as it gets charge. according to my knowledge yes the battery makes the psp go straight to 3.71 m33-2 but the update u do it yourself by going on the psp menu after installing 3.71 m33-2, game option then choose memory stick and u can also do the kenerl right away so everything is straight. Smokingq looks like you got it right, i wonder what exactly you did wrong before. thanks for the comment

  • by shadde @ 05 Jan 2008 0:55

    what is installing the boosters for ???

  • by menxtina @ 05 Jan 2008 16:45

    everytime i close my psp and open it again (it takes me back to the INSTALL 3.71 M33-2 black screen and i have to keep doin that evrytime i open my psp) . ANd i followed the guide closely

    maybe thers something wrong with the 3.71 M33-4 update, and if so, how can i remove that and stay with the 3.71 M33-2?

  • by larrylje @ 06 Jan 2008 18:18

    @shadde

    I never bring up boosters on this guide.

    @menxtina

    If you followed the guide closely then you wouldn't be having an issue.

    Did you convert the Battery back to normal?

    Did you unplug the AC Adapter and take out the Battery after converting the Battery back to normal?

  • by Smokingq @ 11 Feb 2008 1:00

    hi larrylje,
    what's the difference between "Universal Unbricker V3 Using FAT 1.50 or FAT/SLIM custom firmware PSP and the "Universal Unbricker V3 Using Official Firmware FAT/SLIM PSP" guide? From the reading, it seems to be the same procedure. I m a bit confuse about it. The reason i asked is because, first i have a fat psp with official firware 2.71. you guide me thru to upgrade it to 3.52m33-4. using that psp i created a pandora battery and a magic memory stick (which i still have). i used it to upgrade my slim psp 3.71 official firware to 3.71m33-4. Using that same pandora battery and magic stick, i upgraded the fat psp from 3.52m33-4 to 3.71m33-4. both works fine. Now i have another fat psp with official firmware 2.71. which guide should i use? can i used the pandora battery and magic stick on this fat psp with official firmware?
    thanx for help.
    smoke

    I shorted the batt the way i was told and followed all the directions but still doesnt work. When i put the card in nothing loads but the light is on. I have a slim and a fat one but I am using the old one I have the newest version of firmware but I had it at 1.5 for a while.
