Failure with the XENO

Well, I installed the XENO chip and it didn't work. I assumed that it was because I hadn't quite solidly connected one of the points. Since there are no wires, just a hard solder, I think one corner of it was lifted up a bit. So I used a small length of wire to try and make the contact, and I still didn't have any luck.

So I decided to remove the mod-chip and install it using wires. But when I was removing the modchip it pulled up a couple of traces. I tried soldering back to the contact point of the trace for those two pieces, but it still wouldn't boot my backups.

I guess the good thing is that the Game Cube still works just fine, but I wasted the cost of the chip, and all the time I put into it. :(

Still waiting for the Xeno chip

I'm still waiting for the Xeno chip to arrive. I ordered through Consolesource.com, and they've always been good so I'm not worried about it. They're in Canada and i'm in the US, and it's coming by the cheapest method possible, so I know it takes a while to get things through customs (or whatever) from there.

With the shipping estimate they give of 5-20 days, it should show up sometime this week. If it's not here by next week I'll send them an email asking to check on the status (although their website does show it as shipped.)

On a similar note, the MaxDrive Pro that I ordered and tried to cancel, showed up last week. So far it works OK to boot the backups but I think the memory card part of it is messed up because I can't actually get into any of the games before a hardware error comes up. My plan was to copy the necessary files to my regular memory card (using the Cube memory manager) but my card doesn't have enough space. So I can either go out and buy a bigger memory card, or I can wait for the Xeno to come in. I think I'll wait for the Xeno, but it's getting tough to wait for this long.
