The Death of Dissent

(25 Oct 2006 12:20)

You hear it all the time, if you're not with us, you're against us, if you are not patriotic enough, then you are a traitor, if you don't have the same mindnumbing opinion as all of us, you're a terrorist sympathizer or a communist, if you differ from the mainstream thought, you're insensitive, foolish, or a deviant, and finally, if you express your dissent to a world gone bloodthirsthy and reminiscent of the Salem Inquisition, then, you are a concern to the public.

You know what I think, I think those who express their dissent are courageous people and truth seekers. We are slowly witnessing the decay of our society, by threatening our free thinkers, and making sure every opinion fits within the ranks of the sheeple, or that's what our governments would ultimately want from us to make sure we don't hamper their political aspirations and agendas.

Conformism is not only the death of society, but the seeds of a future police state, where injustices, so flagrant and terrible, are accepted through fear of punishment and not challenged anymore.

We are all endangering our rights and civil liberties. With laws set in place as the Patriot Act and bill C-7, enacted both in the US and Canada (same variant, different name), we have turned a blind eye to torture, rape, and other inhumane crimes, and for what, more freedom?

When you give up your freedom and your rights, does that make you any different than a slave? Slaves did not have any personal freedoms or choices, and had no rights. So I ask you, what's the difference?

Freedom and liberty comes from doing what is right, and giving up rights to achieve this sense of freedom is wrong.

I won't stand for it, and I am opposed to inhumane acts, and liberty depriving laws as well under this sham of an Act.

When a reporter asks a thousand people, what do you think of this issue and the thousand people all answer the same thing, I wonder, are we really free thinkers as we are led to believe? Or just fit in the mindset of others or the mainstream?

This sad fate of conformity in my opinion, political stance, and otherwise, is what truly keeps us in the dark, when terrible events come to pass.

The United States of Amnesia, and Canada, one as blind and forgetful as the other.

If anything, when you read this, have the courage of your views, and express your dissent, because if you don't, who will?

What does North Korea Want?

(12 Oct 2006 19:19)

"What does North Korea Want?"

"To be left alone"

------------------

It's important to note, that North Korea tested a Nuke. However, isolating this regime is not the solution, but will actually embolden and anger the Koreans. The Koreans are starving, and threatening them with war, or with sanctions, only serves to accentuate an already tricky situation. However, I doubt the U.S. will go to war with North Korea. The U.S. are more likely to go to war with Iran being that they are more Israel-centric when it comes to their foreign policy, than they are likely to go to war with North Korea.

It is my utmost hope that war does not break loose, however, the U.S.'s continual failures vis-a-vis foreign policy is really dragging the country in a terrible proverbial hole. American troops are already widely dispersed around the world, the war in Iraq is costing the American taxpayer close to half a trillion dollar, and I doubt the United States can afford to go to war once more.

In addition, there is a theory in political science, it's called M.A.D., which refers to mutually assured destruction. If two countries have nuclear warheads, this acts as a deterrent rather than inciting war, because they realize that nuclear weapons deployment would result in devastating destruction on both sides and this in effect will act as a means to avoid any future war.

What do I think of North Korea? Well I hope it unites with the South, and it finally becomes one country, Korea, rather than obviously divided. That would in effect create a new sense of nationalism, and would solve a lot of problems in the region and potentially save lives.
