.....how true, how true....war is ugly. Thats all there is to it D: I wanna leave this country so bad.....but some people might consider the fact that I can't even drive yet a handicap. x) I think i might look into taking one of those online drivers ED classes.....

thank you x)...Ps. check your blogs and stuff...I commented

  • dsstrlght (07 Feb 2006 19:34)

I hope everyone is enjoying my photos. Little by little I'm going through my archives for photos I want to feature here. I'm also getting links up. Some are to sites I care a lot about, others are good places to learn more about the locations I have featured in my photos.

  • brainstrm (07 Feb 2006 20:37)

Very good pictures ! I'm glad you are doing the links now too - I have been curious about what you would have over there 8 )

  • dsstrlght (08 Feb 2006 18:18)

yes I want to add a lot more but so far I need to figure out how one keeps them in the order you want. If you click More and see all of them then they are listed by category in the order that I started those categories which makes your page always the one on top as it should be. But to just look at the page, adding more links tosses the new ones to the top and pushes older ones onto the next page-- kind of what the photos are doing. Note that I have partially solved this by rewriting my welcome message on the top page-- yours still says under construction and at some point you probably want to revise that too. That may be an option for you as well.

  • dsstrlght (01 Apr 2006 18:24)

jazo123, cool, I have a friend who grew up in Modesto. She has a beautiful voice and went to Julliard. She sang professionally for a number of years in a band, now she is an occupational therapist and the mother of my daughter's oldest friend. The girls have known each other since they were three years old.

  • dsstrlght (01 Apr 2006 18:29)

borhan9, thanks I'm glad you like them. I find your pictures interesting too, it looks like you have friends from quite a few countries!

  • borhan9 (02 Apr 2006 13:08)

Hey I will b adding another blog dsstright a brief intro to the whole india bahai thing soon mayb mid month or next month

    Thanxs for the kewl comments

  • dsstrlght (02 Apr 2006 14:00)

Hey jazo, we all live in the LA area. Unfortunately, that's about as specific as we can get online and still preserve safety but then you kids have heard us parents telling you that a lot, so you know. That is one advantage about living in/near such a big city. With over three million people here I can write about my city and not have problems with giving away where my kids live. Even cool moms have to be safe moms.

  • dsstrlght (02 Apr 2006 14:05)

cool borhan, I'm looking forward to reading it.

  • dsstrlght (02 Apr 2006 15:02)

link ] Great column in today's opinion section of the LA Times by Sonia Nazaro about positive solutions that would help improve conditions in home countries so that people would not feel the need to take such desperate risks as they do to immigrate illegally here. Her series "Enrique's Journey" won a Pulitzer Prize and was published as a book by Random House in February. If you didn't read the series in the Times, the book would be a good way to understand the issues.

  • dsstrlght (02 Apr 2006 21:40)

wow...those pictures are diffrent from the average...its good to see that afterdawn isnt alll about .....i dont know where iam going with that but yea.

  • dsstrlght (06 Apr 2006 19:20)

hahaha you mean I don't have any naked chicks here? You guys all are doing just fine keeping us well supplied with them. Well, there is more to afterdawn than that and even if I'm not a teenage boy who's into modding his computer games, there is that wonderful part of afterdawn called mp3lizard where you can download the best music ever! I know I've frequently put links straight up to -project brainstorm- [ link ] but what you might not have seen if you haven't been to mp3lizard's homepage is that at the top of the page you have seen this for months: [ link ]
    Our users recommend these tracks
    -=RkR=-: Jem Jam (Metal)
-PROJECT : BRAINSTORM-: Betrayal Be Thy Name (128Kbs 2nd attempt mix) (Metal)

These are top downloads and recommendations across all of the categories of music on that site.

Every one of Brainstorm's songs has had a turn at spending months at a time in the top five most downloaded metal category. (click specifically on the link for metal and you will find a page that gives the top songs for this and last week in that category) At the moment, -=RkR=- has a song that was one of last week's top five most downloaded metal songs. Brainstorm has a new one up at the moment and it is well worth your checking it out, it could make top five with your votes too. All of his other songs have.

Yes, the top two recommended musicians who have consistently ruled the charts on mp3lizard for months and months both have blogs on this site. Now that rocks!

  • brainstrm (06 Apr 2006 19:57)

  • dsstrlght (09 Apr 2006 12:23)

  • dsstrlght (18 Apr 2006 0:01)

Yes, Last Master, it is an Ibanez from his links page: "My Jem7RB , RG550's and Iceman (all modified beyond recognition) have been some of my favorite gig guitars for many years !"

  • dsstrlght (22 Apr 2006 4:35)

They just let me in my apartment, it's very noisy out there with all the work on the damaged part of the building. I"m going to shower and come over to sleep at your house. At least my apartment is ok, ones just a couple of units over from mine are totally unsafe and have major water damage. Basically the ones on the long hallway wing are all burned and destroyed on the third floor and severly damaged by all of that and the water on the second and third floor.

  • dsstrlght (22 Apr 2006 5:15)

see the blog entry. I photoshopped some labels onto an aerial shot of our building.

  • emossuck (22 Apr 2006 5:48)

    yes i saw D:

hahahah yes i thought that emo thing was funny

  • dsstrlght (23 Apr 2006 17:04)

Read the blog. I am so angry today at all the people in the world whose need for control is so great that they abuse those they claim to love. A lot of people including myself could have died on Saturday morning because of an abuse situation that went very very bad. I am sick and tired of all of the suffering people like that cause in the world. I have seen way too much of this for too long. [ link ]

Wow cool ! Love what you did with the signature art up there ! ^
    >:D<

  • dsstrlght (26 Apr 2006 15:59)

Thanks! You know all about my lifelong fascination with space! I think I was maybe all of 12 years old or so when I started subscribing to Sky and Telescope magazine and one of the best Christmas presents I ever got in my life was my Tasco 4 1/2" reflector telescope. There are much better quality scopes out there now for the amateur astronomer, but at the time, I was 13 years old and couldn't be happier. I spent many many hours outside at night looking at all of the things I had read about and learning more. I think one of the very first things I saw with it were the four biggest moons of Jupiter. Wow, what an exciting thing that was for me! The Pleiades (M45) photo I have up there as background to that signature is nearly identical to a print I had up in my bedroom for years, I had taken the photo from one of my magazines and taped it to my wall. It has always been one of my favorite winter sky objects. This is a great article about them. [ link ] I took this picture of my telescope in 1977. Wow it was so faded. Good thing I was able to restore the color in photoshop. Looks like I was set up to do some solar observations-- projecting onto something else of course, you'd never want to look directly at that!

  • emossuck (26 Apr 2006 18:56)

  • dsstrlght (30 Apr 2006 15:28)

    heeeeeeeeeeeey where is it?

  • dsstrlght (30 Apr 2006 15:28)

it was there earlier today..... going to fix it now heyyyyyyy all the code is not working there right now- it isn't making my writing bold either. wonder if it is me or the site? I haven't changed the code at all.. it should work! The only thing I did differently today was defragment my hard drive. But that shouldn't affect it because 1) the code is still there on afterdawn to bold my writing and 2) the link to the gif is to photobucket not to my hard drive. hmmmmmmmmmm ok i've checked Everything and taken it out and put it back in again... it is all correct and there is no reason it shouldn't be working. None at all. Even when I take out the link to the gif, and try to have just the text there, the text works but it won't bold it and I tried changing the <>s for []s but that doesn't work either and <> is what is supposed to work and what has worked all along. pout

Hahaha omg now I dont' feel so bad, I just saw the half page of code at the top of Lethal's page! maybe it itsn't me after all. Maybe it's doing that to more than just me. Hope it works out for everyone.

  • emossuck (01 May 2006 19:27)

    D: i dunno x)

  • Lethal_B (02 May 2006 1:56)

well, i finally managed to rid myself of all that html that wouldn't disappear.. now to see if it works agen :-)

  • dsstrlght (02 May 2006 5:09)

hmm nope adding bold tags is still just making the tags show without changing my writing to bold at the top of the page. :( and I was loving my new sig too...

It's a little after 6 pm, the temperature here is still 96 degrees with 17% humidity. The high today was 101 degrees. I'm so glad there's a pool here. This is one of those days it doesn't matter that my air conditioning is still stuck on "on". I'm going to stay in the water for awhile. :)

hey everyone! I took this poll today ( what kind of guitar are you? [ link ] ) and this was my result

You're a Jackson RR1! The Flying-V model custom-built for Randy Rhoads and put into mass production a year after his death in 1982, this heavy-metal machine has become a symbol in the hands of players like Kirk Hammett and Kerry King. You kick ass, dude

take the quiz, I'm curious to see what kind of guitar you are!

  • emossuck (20 Jun 2006 22:56)

You're a Gibson Les Paul! Known for your great playability and awesome and versatile sound, you're the industry standard; ideal for all kinds of music. Go you! On the downside, though, you can be really friggin' expensive.

  • dsstrlght (20 Jun 2006 23:14)

    lol janrocks! Is that yours?

  • Polyarny (21 Jun 2006 12:47)

    sorry.

Indeed, you are so right that the stores will offer you one very low price and then want to resell it to someone else at an outrageous markup. We saw a lot of that in the vintage guitar stores, both one in Nashville we visited last year and in some places we saw this time in LA. I'm betting Brainstrm has some idea where you can look, so once he sets his latest prize [ link ] down long enough to come online, he can give you some advice on that.

I know the feeling. Depression saps the life out of people and makes them feel so hopeless even when they have someone there who loves them deeply and wants to do everything they can to make it better. But they must be able to accept what you are willing to give. It sometimes takes more courage and trust for them to do so than they are capable of. And so they continue to suffer, and we suffer with them.

  • borhan9 (03 Aug 2006 13:33)

Hey are u also a music teacher???

  • dsstrlght (03 Aug 2006 14:55)

I had 12 years of piano lessons, years ago did teach a little piano, was married for nearly 20 years to a man who spent many of those years as a music teacher, and therefore have done a fair amount of accompanying and helping out with lessons, but I am not, myself a music teacher. I teach elementary school mostly, although as a substitute teacher I do junior high and high school sometimes as well. Words I would associate with my musical involvement these days would be more like "muse", "wannabe amateur pianist and keyboardist" and "fan".

  • borhan9 (11 Aug 2006 13:45)

glad you feel better, we dont want you sick, well i hope none of us do... lol

  • dsstrlght (21 Aug 2006 22:54)

Some may, but I really hope not. I am all for people just accepting reality and allowing genuine happiness for everyone, not a continuation of needless unhappiness and stress. There is still far too much of that going on and it makes me very sad. I really really feel strongly that there is so much beautiful life waiting to be lived and so much fear holding us back from it. Fear and hatred born out of fear of the future. I would love to be able to communicate to one who hates me how much I do not hate back. I know loss is hard to take, and it's so easy to blame the one who seems to be the cause and it's life not me. What happened, happened long before. This is just the way life went. I sincerely wish this person would find new happiness in her life and realize it's ok to let go. Hatred, fear and anger are only deepening the wounds for all. But they are so afraid they will not even look at the kind words I write them.

I must apologize for the unnecessary comments I left on your page. I was fed up with a lot of things that day and I may have taken out some anger by flaming your page, and I am sorry. As for the whole college thing, you're probably right and may even be getting a better education than the ones that sit through the drowsy lectures. And I didn't realize it at them time, but I am a hypocrite. I also take online classes, given, not specifically from an 'online university' but they're online nonetheless. I do learn a lot in them and it gives me the flexibility to work and tend to my other actual classes at the university. I think one day, once the internet takes over the entire world and everybody has very fact access, over half of the students will “go to class” online, using streaming audio and video to watch lectures and interact with classmates. I just saw that you enrolled in an online university and thought it was kind of hokey, and was already angered about the majority of your blog comments. I'm glad you didn't take too much offense to the comments, and people like you are what makes this site great.

  • dsstrlght (04 Nov 2006 13:03)

I don't believe in this stuff but it was interesting to see how much of it did describe me lol.

"Born leader" is the key word for the Tigers. They are always in the lead and are most likely the ones to cry out "Let's Go"! Noble and Fearless, Tigers are respected for their courage, even from those working against them.
Tiger people are daring fighters, they are capable of standing up to the better end for what they think is right. Although they could be selfish from time to time in the little things, they are capable of great generosity. Tigers are unpredictable, always tense. and like to be in a hurry.

Tiger people are difficult to resist, for they are magnetic characters and their natural air of authority confers a certain prestige on them. They are tempestuous yet calm, warm-hearted yet fearsome, courageous in the face of danger yet yielding and soft in mysterious, unexpected places.

Tigers are very confident, perhaps too confident sometimes. Although they love adventures, and are addicted to excitement it is better not to challenge a Tiger's confidence. They likes being obeyed and not the other way around.

Because Tigers are urgent people and always in a hurry to get things done right, they usually choose to operate alone. Tigers like to work, they are hard-working and dynamic. If you assign a task to a Tiger, the job will be undertaken and accomplished with enthusiasm and efficiency. Tigers make money, but they are not directly interested in money. Still, the Tiger needs not worry about money: just when he fears the money is gone, more seems to show up.

Tigers are sensitive, emotional. They are capable of great love, but they become too intense about it. They are also territorial and possessive, if you are a friend of a Tiger, he wants you to take his side against the bad guys and because the Tiger is so adorable, you often do. As lovers, Tigers are passionate and romantic, but the real challenge for the Tiger is to grasp the true meaning of moderation.

The Tiger, the living symbol of strength and power, generally inspires fear and respect. Tigers' compelling dynamism, intense activity, independence and curiosity about others make them irresistible, persons of multiple charms; Tigers attract followers and admirers. The Tiger is courageous, active and self-assured, and makes an excellent leader and protector. However liberal-minded Tigers may be, they are passionate, rash, and resist the authority of others. Although they are selfish in the little things, they are capable of great generosity, even of altruism, in the larger. Tigers are men and women of action, thrust by destiny into the spotlight.
Tigers are fearless creatures in as much as they blind themselves to dangers and impetuously rush in where more cautious individuals would fear to tred. Outspoken in the face of injustice, their strong humanitarian instincts will not allow them to pass by if they see a wrong perpetrated upon another.

Tigers tend to renounce confining traditional roles, opting for a more unfettered life. With a wide ranging mind, they can adopt any number of careers. Their many experiences serve to enrich their life and add depth to their nature. Material benefits matter little to them.

Tigers have an inborn magnetic personality that attracts people to them like bees to honey. Warm-hearted, sociable and friendly, they are characterised by their frank, honest and open approach. Their immense kindness and generosity will always shine through except when crossed or backed into a corner, for then they can become vehement and ferocious.

Solitude is often the price Tigers pay for their position of authority, but they become accustomed to it. Better still, they draw on the experience, gaining new energies and great strength.

Chinese say the life of a Tiger born at night will be less hectic than that of Tigers born after dawn and above all, those born around midday. It will be a stormy life full of dangers, but the Tiger will never be bored. Neither Night Tiger nor Day Tiger will have an easy life. The Western term for a particularly fierce woman is "dragon lady," but the Chinese call her an "old tiger lady." For this reason some Chinese avoid having children in the Tiger Year -- for fear of having a daughter.

The lucky Tiger represents the greatest power on earth, and is the emblem of protection for human life. A Tiger in the house minimizes the Three Great Risks -- thieves, fire, and evil spirits.

    The Sexy Tiger

Tigers make ardent and virile lovers who dominate their partners. Because of their sensuality, their impetuousness and love of adventure, there is an excitement that not only follows Tigers wherever they go, but also guarantees them a certain irrestible sexy allure. These creatures whose emotions are out-front have strong libidos and are lusty in their passions. Generally flirtatious, they are especially prone to wild flings in their early years but do settle down as they get older. When committed to a happy and fulfilling relationship, Tigers make loving and caring partners, warm-hearted and generous. They don't, however, lose that romantic streak nor that exciting ability to surprise.

yeah i cant wait for the elections to come. im actually old enough to vote for this one. i cant wait for them to get ehre though because im tired of all the political bullshit on tv, and because the stem cell initiative is on the ballot. on the religious note, with the whole stem cell thing all the biblethumpers are freaking out. they are saying that the amendment allows cloning, when if you read it, it says right on the first page that cloning will still be illegal. in my opinion they are being thickheaded, as usual. honestly id rather see the lives of my dad and friend, who both have diabetes, saved than the life of something that isnt even as big as a period. besides they really dont even have to use ESC, they can use adult ones, or umbilical cord stem cells. so they are fusing over nothing, and really when you get right down to it, some really cant be "alive" until it has blood flowiong through its veins, which it even says in the bible, so they really have no argument. but then i love the next one they use and i quote, " then youre killing something that has the potential for life". and thats BS too, cause by that definition sex without conception should be banned as well. and what about when a female's egg drops, but is not used, or the millions of sperm that dont make it to the egg. i love that counter argument, leaves em stumped everytime. lol anyway im just ranting now, but thanks for the post in me box and blog.

I was driving through Burbank on the freeway today when I passed Jay Leno driving his Tank car [ link ] and watched as he exited the freeway. Cool car. He has so many of them. One of the perks of living in Burbank for so long was I used to see him driving down the street with many of them. Leno's garage: [ link ]

Since you're probably wondering... yes JJ still has an Afterdawn page but his AD mail accidentally ended up going automatically to bulk and he didn't realize he wasn't getting any mails until AD froze his account thinking he didn't have a real email addy. So they say you write them with it and they'll fix it but even though we love AD you know if you've ever written them about an account issue it takes a few weeks for them to get to it so he's been waiting. You can still download his songs on MP3lizard (which is part of AD) but he can't access his download counts there either. I hope they fix that all soon. But we're still here so don't worry! He'll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

TO tripplite, and corn. DUMBASSES WHO WERE JUST INSULTING MY MOTHER, THIS IS HER. DSSTRLGHT=EMOSSUCKS MOMMY.

    have a lovely day

  • emossuck (08 Apr 2008 14:18)

I will make the assumption that you feel I am ignorent of the "emo" crowd? I don't give a shit how you dress, i have several friends whom would describe their lifestyle and dress as "scene" or "emo" but they don't mope constantly- and by the way i happen to shower everyday, wear CLEAN clothes different from the privous day, and dont dress the steryotipical metal-head- these accusations your pointing at me fit yourselves much better. I am simply stating that the attitude and behavior of this group is unessecary. I, as a long time suffer of clinical depression, DO understand pain and being made fun of. HOWEVER the difference is insted of constantly bitching about how misserable my life is and walloing in all of my miserys; i take a much more realistic approch and DEAL WITH IT. I move on. Live life, have fun be optimistic, embrace the good, and learn from the bad. I cannot respect someone who just complains constanly and always "wishes things would get better" or else their so far gone "that they wish they would just die" and never does anything to improve the situation. It is a horribly childish and self-centered personal physc and very unhealthy.

P.S. My mother is on this site as well...the parents do know how I act and agree with me. LEAVE MY FAMILY OUT OF IT. My beliefs- you argue me.

-Mother dear, this is what I had to say....

  • cactuscat (08 Apr 2008 18:30)

Thanks for your comment and again, congratulations on your masters! Getting it while keeping up with family, job and relationship was quite a feat. You should be proud!

I like your photos very much and have to confess that you've given me a lot ideas for mine - especially your nature shots. I never would have thought of taking close-ups of bees (they scare me!) and the back-lighting on your roses is incredible! You also have some fantastic sky shots. The wildflowers are now blooming in the desert so I'll be uploading more photos soon. I'm looking forward to seeing more of yours! And please let emossuck know that I won't insult her mommy!

  • dsstrlght (03 Jul 2008 18:40)

Loyalty can be used as a tool of persuasion and brainwashing.

    Lao Tzu's take on loyalty:

When people lost sight of the way to live
Came codes of love and honesty,
    Learning came, charity came,
    Hypocrisy took charge;
    When differences weakened family ties
    Came benevolent fathers and dutiful sons;
And when lands were disrupted and misgoverned
    Came ministers commended as loyal.

    (From the Witter Bynner translation.)

True love and true loyalty work for what is right and what is good for all. It should never be used as a tool of coercion, control and shaming people into submission to lives of torment that hold no benefit to anyone but the tormentor.

All the pretty high sounding words in the world cannot change reality.

  • dsstrlght (03 Jul 2008 18:40)

Everywhere in human history when people have been treated justly and respected, it has always been human nature to return good for good. The government that treats its people fairly is respected and its denizens do not need to be exhorted to flock to its defense in time of need. Individuals who treat each other as the precious treasures they are do not need to demand loyalty and love; it is a natural response to being truly loved. It has only been the dictators, the abusers and those who hold themselves superior to others who must demand loyalty oaths and hold themselves up to the world as supposed paragons deserving of tribute.

Belated happy birthday! Hope you had a fantastic day yesterday. Did you ever get your new camera?

Congrats on having your pics on Michael Angelo's web site! That is so cool!

Now you're older than I am! :-) If I could think of any good old lady jokes I'd put one here but I can't. 1962 was a good year though, wasn't it! I really feel my age when co-workers are surprised that I remember a time when we didn't have cell phones or have no idea what to do with a typewriter! And I had to laugh when I saw a kid pick up an LP at a yard sale and say, Look Mommy, a giant DVD!
