Watch these videos. Congress is trying to sneak legislation through that would pardon Bush and his cronies for any possible war crimes related to torture of detainees going all the way back to Sept. 11th. When the Supreme Court ruled that the Geneva conventions applied to Al Quaeda and Taliban detainees, the Bushies decided they were in trouble. You may be thinking so what if they torture a few terrorists? but the reality is that a lot of innocent people have been detained and tortured. See the second video for more on that story.

    I've given it some thought, and I've surmised that the problem on one front is the military industrial complex, and on the other, "corporate America". Where have all the Middle-Classes gone to? It seems corporations systematically undermine governments, and rake in more GDP then some foreign nations. Suffice it to say, corporations do not swear allegiance to any country or flag, they are entities devoid of any loyalty to any country, safe for profit itself, which they pursue religiously.

    Corporate America, the military industrial complex, including both Harper and Bush regimes, have undermined the constitution (Canadian and American). Soon enough, it wouldn't surprise me voicing your opinion in opposition to the current government could land you in jail. We are being stripped of our inalienable rights, and the question is, who means to profit from this? Regrettably, this is where, it becomes less than obvious...

    Now, on the issue of terrorism and detaining suspects of terrorism...My only comment is this, 80% of all prisonners in London suspected of terrorism were deemed to be innocent. That statistic was out of 2000 people, when I say people, I mean muslim Arab, and this coupled with the 90% innocent prisonners held in Abu Ghraib prisons really raises serious concerns...Is this a witch hunt for the evil terrorist, similarly to the Inquisition in Salem? Very discouraging.

    One of my teachers asked me the question, well, this is the price we pay for freedom, we have to give away some of our freedoms in order to gain more freedom...I obviously rolled my eyes at him, and he was shocked that I thought what he said was completely fallacious (he even asked me if I believed him, I told him absolutely not). Rather, I should have asked him, imagine you were an Arab Muslim, arrested and tortured, and then found innocent, how would you feel about giving away your freedoms? Oh, that's right, he wasn't, what does he care.

    The real problem is the Patriot act and Bill C-7 in Canada. Everybody is a suspect, everybody is being monitored, especially if you are an Arab Muslim, or just Muslim. Just comes to show the level of professionalism and common sense exercised by these authoritarian institutions.

    absolutely. It's becoming a police state and such regimes have always used fear of a horrible threat to convince people to willingly give up their freedoms for the supposed good.
