meditation

(23 Feb 2007 19:42)

"We are put on the earth to participate in life.
We have a beautiful mind, we have the ability
to pray, we have the ability to change, we have
the ability to accept, and we have choices.

All things God(dess) created are constantly changing.
This constant change causes our circumstances
to change. Sometimes we say life is difficult.
During these times we need to use our tools:
the tools of prayer, and the tools of meditation.

We are designed to change and live joyfully
on this earth. The only requirement for
living joyfully is to live according to the laws,
principles and values given to us by the
Creator."

Great Spirit,
give me Your
courage today,
and guide my
footsteps.

-Rolling Thunder-

I'm an atheist. I don't follow any man made earth religions. Nonetheless, I have very strong beliefs in what's right and fair and it really pains me when the choices of others force me into positions that hurt others. I am also wise enough to realize that there are things that happen to us in our lives, things that bring us together and confirm their rightness in ways that no human could ever do... those beautiful sacred moments that happen way too often to be coincidences and the powerful strength and knowledge that what is, is what is meant to be. There is power in us beyond the physical. When we dare to open ourselves to it, it transcends the limitations of time and space and bonds us in ways no human words or actions can. In the presence of sage, in openness to the powers that we do not fully understand but which clearly exist and which have shown time and time again what is meant to be, the truth was confirmed once again. I believe the life affirming beautiful forces to be much more powerful and meaningful than the life strangling desperate attempts to force people to follow man made restrictions that their hearts cry out against. Fear of change, fear of conflict and disapproval are incredibly powerful chains to completely break free from. Old habits of fear die very slowly. We must always remember those moments we have been given when we were able to, fearlessly, reach out and be one with all that is good and strong and know how right it was. Life awaits those with the courage to live it.

more microsoft idiocy

(23 Feb 2007 16:28)

As you know, I am working on a master's degree in a part online/part onsite program from University of Phoenix. A very important element of the online part of the course is participating in the discussion threads each week. We access those through Microsoft Outlook Express. Well, it's a good thing that I knew better than to upgrade to newer versions of any of my software right now. These are some problems that are being addressed in the UOP technical support newsletter today:

1. With the release of Microsoft Office 2007, there have been some issues noted where Students and Faculty cannot open documents posted by instructors or classmates. This issue is due to Microsoft Office 2007 using a different file extension than what was used in previous Microsoft Office versions.
Students and Faculty who are using Microsoft Office 2007 may use the “Save As” option to save the document as a Microsoft Word 97-2003 document type (the same steps apply for Excel or PowerPoint) and post that version to the forum. This will allow those with Microsoft Office 2003 the ability to open the file.
If you have a version of Microsoft Office other than Microsoft Office 2007, it is recommended that you install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 file formats.

2. All Words Show as Misspelled in Microsoft Outlook Express After Installing Microsoft Office 2007
Symptom:
When using the spell check function in Microsoft Outlook Express, all words are marked as misspelled. The suggested replacement words are in French only.

Cause:
Outlook Express uses the Microsoft Office English dictionary files to run spell check on mail and news messages. When the full version of Microsoft Office 2007 is installed, the previous Office English dictionary files are removed. Outlook Express then defaults to the French dictionary for spell check use.

Resolution:
To set the correct dictionary for Microsoft Word 2007, please perform the following:
Open Microsoft Word
Click the Office button in the upper-left corner
Click Word Options
Click Proofing
Check the box next to Suggest from main dictionary only
Click Custom Dictionaries
For Dictionary language, select English (United States)
Click OK
Click OK
Close Microsoft Word
Restart Microsoft Outlook Express
Attempt to spell check the message again

fully alive

(02 Feb 2007 10:33)

This is my living faith, an active faith, a faith of verbs: to question,
explore, experiment, experience, walk, run, dance, play, eat, love, learn,
dare, taste, touch, smell, listen, argue, speak, write, read, draw,
provoke, emote, scream, sin, repent, cry, kneel, pray, bow, rise, stand,
look, laugh, cajole, create, confront, confound, walk back, walk forward,
circle, hide, and seek. To seek: to embrace the questions, be wary of
answers. -Terry Tempest Williams, naturalist and author (1955- )

teaching

(01 Feb 2007 9:46)

The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural
curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.
-Anatole France, novelist, essayist, Nobel laureate (1844-1924)
