Removal of pop-unders from AfterDawn.com for registered users

(29 Nov 2005 4:43)

Didn't want to make huge fuss about it, as the process is only half-ready, but on Sunday morning (27th of Nov, 2005) we removed all pop-under advertisements from our main domain, www.afterdawn.com, for registered users. Basically occassional users will still see them, but people who have registered an account with us (and obviously logged in as well..), there are no more pop-unders.

Despite the fact that we've been extremely careful with "intrusive ads" and never introduced "pop up" ads to our site and always limited the number of pop-unders to one per user visit, the ad format still draws heavy criticism from our users. And as an appreciation to user feedback and to our loyal reg'd users, we decided to remove the pops from our main site now. They are still available on forums tho -- we just few months ago removed "interstitial" ads from our forums for reg'd users, so you can see certain pattern here?-)

Anyway, I'm certain that we simply would get "MUHAHAA, got ad blockers" morons commenting this story, without understanding that we don't run a website with dedicated news staff, 8 servers, etc for free, so I'm using this also as an opportunity to test our blog system with first "real news item" as well :-)
