Graduation

(27 May 2006 6:58)

Graduation was amazing! It was the most perfect night ever. I had to give a speech, it was pretty scary. I was a top honor student and I had about a minute and a half to speak. I felt that I did an okay job. My parents said that I looked like I was going to be sick the entire time I was on stage. But I did it. I made a speech in front of hundreds of people for the first time. And my speech went a little bit like this (but not exactly, I froze and made up some crap while trying to keep eye contact with the crowd).

"As you step off this stage tonight, you might be feeling a lot of things---excitement, relief, a sense of accomplishment, and maybe even a little bit of sadness. But one surprising feeling that will probably creep up on you as you head home or to the pary or dinner wherever you are going tonight, is an emotion you might not have expected, and that is fear. Who's going to hold your hand now? Without teachers looking over your shoulder, how are you going to get assignments, bill, even rent in on time? How are you going to make it through the day without those tardy bells? We don't know how to live on the "outside" yet!

But we will. We'll learn, and we'll grow, and we'll forage ahead in a new path and yes, it might be scary, but it's also going to be thrilling. Fear is okay and so is failure, as long as you do your best and stick your neck out and just be real. Follow both your heart and your gut, listen well, make decisions on what's best for you, and you should do fine. And don't forget, a bit of sunscreen doesn't hurt, either."

Yeah, that was about it . . . sort of. It didn't go exactly to plan. But that's okay.

After graduation I went to a bon fire/party at my friend's house. I had a blast. I got home around 11 in the morning the next day. Then I hung out with Dustin till about 4:30 and went shopping for a clubbing outfit for the summer. I can't wait to party this summer. I'm finally out in the real world!
