My New Build

24 Dec 2006 22:46 (Edited: 24 Dec 2006 22:46)

So I haven't written a blog for awhile now. So i figured it was time for me to get back to it :)

In October I came back from my stay with my dad in Queensland. I decided not to stay up there as i mentioned in my last blog i wrote called Decisions and Choices. For awhile i came back and took a break. I told work i was back but the shifts they were giving me were very minimal. So I had some money my dad gave me and i decided to make some use of my time.

I decided to build a pc from scratch :) It took me about a month to build the whole tower. I havent got a keyboard or an LCD for it yet i just keep moving the input output devices from this old pc that i use all the time to see if that was up and running. I had everything in the right place but no power was going into the pc to boot the motherboard. I was puzzled tried everything. Eventually took it to a friends and we again went through everything i had done before and he was getting the same results. He then decided to try a new power supply. He tried it and it worked fine. So then we tried the power supply that i got with the new tower. Still had no luck, we sat there discussing and thinking what the hell could it be, i was racking my brain cause i had'nt the faintest idea of what it could be.

The i saw my friend start to smile. I said what is it?? He did not say anything at first he just put the power cable back in and plugged it back into the pc and the suddenly the CPU fan started turning it was online and working :D i was over the moon. I asked what happened how did you get it going. He said that the 4 headed pin that goes near the CPU fan that works in conjunction with the main power connector to the mother board we had put the wrong four pin head in there. It was a power connector but not suitable for that mother board. So we tried another and that worked it had something to do with 24pin or 32 pin etc... As my motherboard was an all in one it had that issue, but its all good now :) Works and everything. I was over the moon it is my first built on my own and it worked :) All my other connections were right. :)

The whole tower cost me about A$700.

These are the specs:

On Board Motherboard with everything
AMD Sempron Processor 3100
1 Gig Ram
250gig Seagate IDE Hard Drive
Pioneer DVD Dual layer Burner
Floppy Drive

Im happy with it i put all the software on it and it works great. But like i said it needs a screen and keyboard and a mouse. I am also thinking of buying a graphic card for it yet i have to save a little first :)

But thats basically my first build and im soo happy about it :)

What do u all think about the machine is it good. :)

Someday I"ll get brave enough to learn all that. I've been tempted to try but not yet. Hey, I know what you mean about going aha and having something simple be the fix. I have occasionally done some very simple plumbing but not often enough to be in practice. Last week I puzzled over why I couldn't get an old showerhead off to install a new one and finally a good buddy asked me if I had turned the wrench clockwise or counterclockwise. I said, " just a minute" got up from the computer, picked up the wrench and immediately unscrewed the faucet, no problem. Doh!
