Neutered is probably closer to the truth, but still a HUGE Vols fan. LOL I'm probably gonna be coming back on line soon. I'm getting ready to do Blu Ray. I'm trying to decide the best course of action. Don't really want to go the Vista route w/a new PC (hear it's got a lot of problems, especially w/DVD) so I'd like to stick w/XP if software for blu ray is XP compatible, not to mention all my old software works well w/XP, but I've got to get a dual processor, high def screen, new mobo, blu ray reader/burner and more ram. I also looked at replicators but don't know much about them. I still talk to Brobear, he's feisty as ever, claws still intact, but not on Afterdawn. Didn't know Hounds was still going but good to hear it's alive and well. I'll check in at AD in the near future in the blu ray section. It's like starting all over again, only with addict status. LOL Good talking to ya, bigo

A few quick points! XP is great with Blu-Ray (BD), so stick with it. Your system will need to be HDCP ready to playback BD or BD won't work, but that can be overcome by getting a copy of HD AnyDVD which you will need to rip BD discs with. You can get a BD burner to burn movies with but believe it or not a BD movie will compress and copy just fine to a standard single or dual layer DVD disc, and yes it's still BD so all you really need is a BD reader and a good old fasioned burner to get started. Jdobbs has recently released a copy of BD RB to back up BD and that discussion is in the DVD Rebuilder thread. Jump over dual core and go straight to an Intel Quad core, because even a quad core will take 4 to 7 hours to reencode depending on speed (now that's like the old days) and the length of the movie. A really fast dual core will take 7 to 12 hours. Lastly get a pair of iron coated underwear they are largely wife proof. LOL

Yep, went ahead and purchased AnyDvd HD a couple of months ago to take advantage of free lifetime updates before the deadline and I've got both Power Dvd HD and WinDvd HD to play HD. I knew you could compress to regular Dvd discs but figured the quality wouldn't be that great or you'd have to do movie only since BD holds so much more info. Makes sense DL disc would be fine tho, and you can get them fairly cheap, especially compared to Blu ray.... So, That's good to know. I'll just need a processor, new mobo, more RAM and a reader. WOW, Dobbs has done it again, the boy's unstoppable. Can't think of another software I'd rather use. To this day it's still my favorite when you have large amts. of compression using other apps. 4 to 7 hours is the fast times? Man! that IS like the old days. Anymore Dvd burning is kinda boring, it's mostly press one key, wait 30 minutes, and you're done. Anybody can do it, and really how much help do you need to click on one button? I've been doing a lot of menu and DVD authoring using DvdLab Pro 2, lately in conjunction with EditStudio 6, ES6 is fairly new, especially to me, LOL, so I'm still learning. I've also been using TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4, the new upgrade of TMPGEnc Dvd Author 3. It's a very nice authoring app, tho nowhere as professional and versatile as DvdLab Pro 2. I'll jump in on the Rebuilder thread next week, also PC build to see where I can get the best hardware for the cheapest price. As always, good talkin' to ya, I've kinda missed you guys and the forum scene, maybe this'll reignite my enthusiasm. Again, Thanx for the info, I might be pickin' your brain some more, or at least until you say ENUFF! LOL BigO
BTW, can't afford iron coated underwear AND a new processor too, so I'll have to be vulnerable and go bare a_ _ ed for a while yet. If I can only have one or the other I'll always choose toys over underwear. LOL

WHAT OR WHO ARE THE VOLS - I'M IGNORANT - I GUESS THEY GO WELL WITH NACHOS???

    • bigorange (05 Oct 2009 12:14)

Tennessee Volunteers. I'm a college football addict. I'm not even sure how nachos fit in, you'd have to ask Sophocles about that. :)
