Wild gaming nights part III

08 Feb 2008 14:45 (Edited: 08 Feb 2008 14:45)

Vdeogames have big part in my life and gaming has been my prime hobby for last 18 years. Games and gaming industry have changed a lot during these years but one thing has always been important for me and that is price of the games.

When you play nearly 20 different commercial games every year, price of the games is some sort of issue. Price is also issue to game developers and publishers. I remember when Wing Commander III was released in 1994 and everybody wondered how development of a single computer game could cost 4 million dollars.

Years have passed and Microsoft paid 50 million dollars to Rockstar Games just to get special Episodic content for Xbox 360 version of the Grand Theft Auto IV.

Nowadays new PC games which are sold in gaming stores or in markets usually cost something between 35-60 euros. New console games usually cost something between 45-70 euros. Because of the those prices, I prefer buying games when they are on sale. I also use auction websites to find cheap games and order games from different internet retailers. Steam is also nice option and for consoles there are virtual stores where you can find cheap games.

Usually it takes some time before you can find certain game under 20 euros. During that time developers usually release patches for games (mostly PC games), so when you finally get the copy, you can update it and hopefully get little better experience from the game or even get more content. Jade empire is only game on that photo that didn't get any patches. All other games have received patches after official release. Luckily many platinum editions and re-releases are usually already patched so no need to download anything else (unless you want to use special mods or some game alternating tools).

Another price issue is related to computers or specially to display adapters. Good cards for modern games usually cost something between 200-300 euros. That is why I play older games, because you don't need state of the art display adapter for good gaming experience. Consoles are better with this because hardware is locked to certain specs so you can't update you GFX chip.

Nice text, though you are missing some prepositions. The graphics cards truly are a pain for the pc-gamers, but in my mind, its worth it.
