  • dsstrlght (13 Mar 2006 14:36)

Yeah!! Welcome to the blogosphere! I'm literally running out the door at the moment but I saw that you had linked to brainstrm and I peeked at your mp3lizard page so I had to send a hello your way. I'll be back later this evening to check it out some more. Have fun and vote for loud and awesome guitars!

  • dsstrlght (15 Mar 2006 19:03)

This page is lonely. It needs pictures. :-)

  • charlie8j (21 Mar 2006 9:37)

-=RkR=- !!! Hiya !!! As if you need to be reminded ....
Let It Rock !!!! (lmao) come visit us !!!

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 11:27)

Woo Hoo! It's a new song!

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 11:54)

Oh, and HI brainstrm, dsstraight and charlie8j!!!

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 11:59)

Listening to it now. I heard Steve Vai in May at the Wiltern theater here in LA . Check out my pictures from the show [ link ] It was awesome, of course.

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 12:01)

I saw him with David Lee Roth back in the day, He was incredible even back then.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:08)

just a heads up on posting pictures and what you do with it will be a matter of personal preference-- If you upload a full size picture it will show only part of it when you try to see it it full size. I have experimented with file sizes recently and found that a maximum of 950-1000 pixels on a side is good. The personal choice part comes here: would you rather give your viewer the most detailed closeup of the left end of your picture or will you sacrifice some of that to let them see the whole thing large? [ link ] here's an example of a picture sized that way.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:11)

sorry my typing is so slow today, I am using one good hand and the good fingers of my right hand till it heals.

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 12:19)

My fingers are a bit sore at the moment too :-)

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:24)

All of these were posted before I figured out the sizing so I was making them smaller than I needed to but I thought you might enjoy them

    Great shots!

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:38)

    thanks

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 12:40)

Long live endless guitar solos! I've got 4 more songs in the works (all original) Unfortunately I can only have 7 songs online at a time, so I have to decide what to take down... Uggh.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:46)

aww really? only seven? That would be like telling me I had to choose only seven of my photos.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 12:49)

Don't forget to vote for guitar pictures and we'll vote for yours. The top images of the day have been the same for too long. [ link ] It was fun when every day there were more of JJ's guitars up there and he's only a vote away on several from retaking the lead. Between the two of you we could be looking at great guitars for a long time and that's a good thing.

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 13:48)

All of my guitar pics are here...

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 13:49)

    well damn.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 14:09)

great guitar shots! I love using natural light when possible and you did a great job on those.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 14:11)

Is it the lighting or did you take those prior to last April since the pickguard on the Jem looks different here but it was already like this in the picture I saw last April.... I think you had just had it worked on recently then?

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 14:22)

I got the pickguard in July '05 I think, The black one didn't work well at all with the purple body. I like it a LOT more now.

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 14:27)

I have a picture dated April 18 2005 that has that pickguard on it

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 14:29)

if i knew how to post pictures in a shoutbox I would show you

  • -=RkR=- (26 Mar 2006 14:37)

Maybe it was earlier than July, It's definately possible. Was it out at Compound:Brainstorm?

  • dsstrlght (26 Mar 2006 14:39)

"The characteristic of a genuine heroism is its persistency. All men have wandering impulses, fits and starts of generosity. But when you have resolved to be great, abide by yourself, and do not weakly try to reconcile yourself with the world. The heroic cannot be the common, nor the common the heroic." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

  • dsstrlght (06 Apr 2006 19:42)

"Mama Alien", You're right Charlie, that is just so bizarre. But then again, I guess people said the same about me when I had kids.
It'll be fun to bust on her when she gets older though. "You know, your mother used to be known as "Alien Sabbath, Sex Kitten From Hell" Right????"
    hehehehe

  • dsstrlght (07 Apr 2006 12:38)

I'll be taking new ones 2 weeks from right now.
    Oh Yeah!

  • dsstrlght (30 Apr 2006 9:11)

Love the pictures from your old trips! Isn't it exciting when you have something like that to look forward to? Whether it's someone visiting you or you going somewhere, it makes the days go so fast looking forward to it!!

  • charlie8j (30 Apr 2006 11:58)

2 weeks away ?? that went fast...hope to see you 2 before you go !! by the way, any hurricanes scheduled yet ?? hope not !!

  • dsstrlght (30 Apr 2006 15:42)

    Mp3 lizard news here [ link ] and here [ link ]

  • -=RkR=- (01 May 2006 7:11)

CJ: Heh, no hurricanes yet, Season doesn't start until June 1, so hopefully there won't be any surprises. And now it's NEXT WEEK that we leave!!! WOOO HOOOO!
DS: Cool, I'm so glad that MP3Lizard continues to keep growing, and that JJB and I still rule the front page!
    ;-)

  • -=RkR=- (04 May 2006 6:49)

Well, I now have a job offer in Huntsville! We are still talking money and waiting on the results of the background check, but it looks like it's going to be a great opportunity.
    I'll post more when/if I accept it.

  • charlie8j (04 May 2006 9:45)

hey, thats pretty cool...is that about the same amount of driving or would you guys have to move ???

  • -=RkR=- (04 May 2006 10:43)

It's actually 30 miles CLOSER, so that will cut an hour off of the round-trip! (plus the fact that it's looking like DOUBLE my current pay, I think I'm going to accept it)
    WOO HOOOOO!!!!

  • dsstrlght (04 May 2006 15:19)

Dayum! you weren't kidding about the "lucky bastard" label. Good for you!

  • -=RkR=- (04 May 2006 17:22)

Well, it's not a done deal yet, but if this one doesn't work out, there are others I'm working as well.
I have every intention of landing on my feet.
    (fingers crossed)

  • dsstrlght (06 May 2006 12:30)

Sounds like you had a blast this morning! Fun music, thanks for uploading it.

<shaking my head at the pun>

  • -=RkR=- (09 May 2006 2:10)

    I know.... I know.... I just couldn't contain myself...
    :-)

  • dsstrlght (09 May 2006 5:21)

Thank you very much for the passport quandray information. I'm glad it will be ok and I can just get it. Enjoy your trip!

  • -=RkR=- (09 May 2006 10:08)

No problem. If you're travelling on a passport, that's all the ID you'll need. Now if you try to rent a CAR.... You'll need not only a US driver's license, but an International Permit as well (available from most travel agencies)

  • dsstrlght (09 May 2006 13:05)

oo that's good to know... making notes to myself to go down to the Auto Club and ask about that. Thanks again.. I had emailed the registrar recorder about it and they referred me today to the State of California. I called that number and the lady told me the process to change my birth certificate info takes 8 months to a year. She seriously suggested having everything else changed--said it is faster. Like I want to have all of those things changed to a misspelled name! I think based on your advice I'm just going to apply for the passport with the misspelled middle name and live with it. Eventually I can change the birth certificate's spelling... like my mom couldn't have noticed this years ago? lol It will be enough of a pain in the butt changing the name once my divorce is final. Girls let this be a lesson to you. Keep your name.

  • charlie8j (10 May 2006 10:36)

hiya, i haven't gotten to listen to your new jam yet...have to run brainstrm off the computer to hear it....hope you guys have a great trip with lots of good weather !!!

  • -=RkR=- (10 May 2006 10:41)

Well folks, The job offer I've got is definately one that I am going to accept. I'm going to turn in my 2 weeks notice AS SOON as I get back from Jamaica.
    This is gonna ROCK!

  • dsstrlght (10 May 2006 13:48)

  • -=RkR=- (18 May 2006 6:33)

Yeah, it was WAAAAY too short of a trip, but hey, I'll take it over no trip at all!

  • dsstrlght (19 May 2006 14:05)

    Great pictures!

  • -=RkR=- (20 May 2006 7:47)

Thanks dss! I've still got a bunch to resize/post. I've been getting my laptop configured and have been concentrating on that instead of photoshopping stuff. The good news is
I finally got my unsupported Wireless NIC in my laptop working in Fedora Core 5!
I had to use MS Windoze drivers (YUCK!) "wrapped" in Linux's NDIS wrappers to get the hardware working since there isn't any native Linux support for my D-Link DWL-G122 USB adapter.
I'm sitting out on my back deck in the sunshine as I write. In Linux. COOL!

  • charlie8j (21 May 2006 15:21)

    cool.....

  • charlie8j (26 May 2006 7:13)

hallo ! when does the new job start ???

  • -=RkR=- (26 May 2006 7:49)

Heya CJ!!! I start my new job on Monday June 5th.. My last day here at Cat is Wednesday the 31'st so I've only got 2 more work (yeah, right) days!!!!

  • brainstrm (26 May 2006 18:56)

Hey check this out 8 ) [ link ] (fun with scallops)
    \m/. .\m/

  • -=RkR=- (27 May 2006 6:11)

That's so cool, I still give that guitar a LOT of love. I wanted to buy one of the Yngwie Malmsteen model Strats, but wasn't sure I could deal with the scallops and I sure as hell wasn't going to drop 1300 bucks or so to find out . I bought this one from a friend of a friend for $75.00 US and found a set of Jackson USA pickups out of a Soloist for another $15.00 (!!!!)
I figured it would make a great 'beta test'. JJB did a KILLER job on it!! Thanks again d00d!

  • themikey (27 May 2006 10:56)

  • -=RkR=- (30 May 2006 15:47)

  • charlie8j (31 May 2006 9:10)

    The Jamaican "Dirty Banana"

    1 oz creme de bananes
    1 oz creme de cacao
    1 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
    2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Blend six ice cubes with ice-cream in a blender until smooth. Add liqueurs and continue blending, again until smooth. Add more ice-cream if needed (for milk-shake consistency). Pour into a highball glass, and serve.

  • charlie8j (07 Jun 2006 16:06)

Hiya !! ....how IS the new job eh ???? Hi B !!!

  • -=RkR=- (08 Jun 2006 2:50)

The new job IS going well... a LOT of work to be done, but it's a cool place to work so far. I even got to wear blue jeans to work for the first time in 7 years yesterday (it's the little things like that that make all the difference)
It's pretty laid back and everyone I work with seems to be nice.
I can't get to this site from work or I would have posted sooner..

  • brainstrm (08 Jun 2006 23:21)

    Glad to hear it !

    \m/. .\m/

  • dsstrlght (15 Jun 2006 18:49)

We thought of you... then went miniature golfing! lol

  • -=RkR=- (15 Jun 2006 18:57)

I haven't been on a golf course in a couple of years now. I keep threatening to, but just never actually work it up when I have the time.

I took this poll ( what kind of guitar are you? [ link ] ) and this was my result.

You're a Jackson RR1! The Flying-V model custom-built for Randy Rhoads and put into mass production a year after his death in 1982, this heavy-metal machine has become a symbol in the hands of players like Kirk Hammett and Kerry King. You kick ass, dude

Check it out and let's see what kind of guitar it thinks you are!

  • -=RkR=- (20 Jun 2006 2:36)

    I am a Gibson. Blecch

You're a Gibson ES-175! One of Gibson's older model, you helped define the term 'jazz box'. Your sound is perfectly suited to smokey jazz clubs and spacey new-age chordal accompaniment. Like most Gibsons, you are way out of most people's price range. Only the most discerning jazz guitarist can afford you!

Ted: You have to have on a hazmat suit within twenty yards of it. The EPA has declared it a Superfund site so you will have to buy it ‘as is’ and I take no responsibly for air loss. That is kind of cute. I have rotated the loincloths over the years! I am not going to let too many toxins get near my balls anyway"

What??? I'm the MASTER of new age chordal accompaniment, Haven't you heard "DMF?" or my Wes Montgomery tribute "Floral Scented Death"???
It reeks of new age music. Me, Will Ackerman, Jim Brickman, and Mark Isham out on the road. Maybe I should send a tape and picture of me in a loincloth with an ES-175 strapped on to Windham Hill Records and see if they'll sign me.

Listening to people like you always reminds me of my mom and my uncle. My maternal grandparents came to the US during the Mexican revolution (pre 1920) and although my grandfather spoke some English at work, my grandmother only understood some English, so they spoke Spanish at home. When my mom and uncle were little preschoolers, they wanted to speak English and didn't know how. So they made up English and would sit around on the front step "speaking English " to each other. The other kids thought they were so smart.

It just about is another language, My wife will ask me about my day at work. I'll get 4 sentances in and her eyes glaze over.
She doesn't want to hear that I had to fsck a corrupt /usr partition on a mySQL server and also edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file to append a VESA BIOS code as a kernel parameter :
    #boot=/dev/hda
    default=0
    timeout=5
    splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
    hiddenmenu
    title Fedora Core (2.6.16-1.2122_FC5)
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 vga=791
    initrd /initrd-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5.img

So that the terminal window size will be set persistantly at boot on an Apache server running Fedora Core 5 in runlevel 3.
(The "vga=791" is to enable a 1024x768 terminal window)
I can't imagine why her eyes glaze over?

  • -=RkR=- (18 Jul 2006 2:52)

Heh, well, one of ours is a sophmore at Auburn University, and the other two are 16 and 15... Boy they grow up quickly don't they?
Looks like yours is on the trip of a lifetime! I've got to get to Europe myself one day.

  • dsstrlght (18 Jul 2006 5:04)

lol ok then! Well she is my oldest, and at 15 1/2 right between two of yours. Yes I think it is great.
When I was ten years old my dad went to Spain for a few weeks to do research, then the rest of our family joined him for a month of travel all over Spain. We then took a train to Paris and spent a week there. After my dad passed away this March, my mom decided to revisit Slovakia this summer. ( She and my dad went there in 1987 when he retired from teaching at CSU Fullerton. It had been 40 years since he had seen his homeland). She wanted to take my two sisters and me with her, and I did get as far as getting my passport. But my youngest sister had already taken too much time off work to come down from Monterey several times this year to see my dad and between teaching summer school and needing to be in the country should a full time teaching job open up, I decided it was not really a good time for me to be out of the country for three weeks. So my mom will go with my other sister in August. My ex is still working out the details but thinks he can work it out so that at the end of Elizabeth's People to People trip, instead of flying back to LA from Paris with the rest of the group, she would board a different plane and fly to Vienna. Vienna is 30 miles from Bratislava, Slovakia where my cousins live. They will already be at the airport that day picking up my mom and sister, so they could pick her up too and then she could be with them for that part of the trip.

  • -=RkR=- (19 Jul 2006 16:52)

Slovakia huh? I have a lot of family from that part of the world myself. I'm Czech/Bohemian/Austrian on my mother's side.. The Dvoracek/Benda families from Jetetice, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). I don't know if I have any living relatives there, but odds are I do. I've always wanted to go there. B and I want to try to do Europe in the next couple of years (10 days in Jamaica next May is FIRST) Then we'll see. I may end up in Ireland for work in the near future, so if that happens I'm SURE B will go with me. I won't be going without her, I know that!
Our 8th Wedding Anniversary is coming up next week so we're going outta town this Saturday night to Nashville. I've got us a suite booked here: [ link ] We're going to stay for their Sunday Brunch, then head out to the Frist Center for this: [ link ] so it should be a nice little getaway for us. I was looking at the guest list on the Hermitage's web site [ link ] and I figured if it was good enough for
    President Lyndon B. Johnson
    President John F. Kennedy
    President Richard Nixon
    President Franklin D. Roosevelt
    President William Howard Taft
    President Woodrow Wilson
    Steven Spielberg
    Charlton Heston
Louise Mandrell and Patrick Duffy, It ought to be ok for us.. heh.

  • dsstrlght (19 Jul 2006 18:52)

That's quite a place! I enjoyed looking at the website. I think just maybe it will do for you and your beautiful wife. Congratulations on the upcoming anniversary. It's nice to see a couple that hasn't forgotten the importance of making each other feel wanted and appreciated. Keep on spoiling her like the treasure she is to you and she'll always do the same for you.
I think you'll enjoy the Egyptian exhibit. I took Brainstrm to this one back in November when it was in LA [ link ] and we found it very interesting. It's not the same exhibit but quite similar.
Ireland is beautiful, everyone I have known who went there loved it. I hope you do take her.
So very interesting that we have family from the same part of the world. Apparently after looking it up I've figured out that the distance between your relative's hometown and my dad's birthplace is shorter than the distance between where you and I live now. Small planet. If you do have living relatives back there, they would definitely know who my cousins are, as they are huge movie and tv stars over there. One of my cousins came in third place for the Presidency of the Slovak Republic in the 1999 election. Every once in awhile I meet someone from there and when they find out who I'm related to they get pretty excited.

  • -=RkR=- (20 Jul 2006 16:13)

I've never been IN the Hermitage, only seen it from the outside so I'm really looking forward to it. B & I love grand old hotels, We had our honeymoon at the Tutwiler Hotel in Birmingham [ link ] 8 years ago and originally wanted to go back there but we couldn't get the Veranda Suite this weekend.
I wanted to see the actual King Tut exhibition but I never made it over to Memphis while it was there. I love history so this exhibition at the Frisk Center should be great. B is all excited about it too :-)
I've always wanted to go to what used to be "Bohemia" Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria etc etc... I ran across a distant cousin on a Geneaology website (her Great-Grandfather was my Grandfather's brother) and she had a LOT of information on that side of the family and loaded me up!
Now that I know for SURE where they came from, I realyy want to see it myself.

  • dsstrlght (22 Jul 2006 6:56)

yeah, I have to go there someday.

  • -=RkR=- (24 Jul 2006 16:19)

We love to travel, well, actually we HATE to travel, but we love "being there". I keep waiting for a transporter or for B to wiggle her nose and <POOF> we're there.
The Hermitage ROCKS, We had a great time. I'll post a few pics as soon as I can get 'em resized.

  • -=RkR=- (27 Oct 2006 16:36)

It's pretty cool, The "true" number actually tops 20,000 including the songs that have come/gone on there, 10,000 is just those 7 songs but I'm still amazed. I only put the first few out there a couple of years ago so my friends could get 'em and it just took off. I'm averaging 10,000 a year it appears :-)
Now if everyone that downloaded them would show up at a gig and pay a $5.00 cover charge...

12,000 Downloads on MP3Lizard. Woo Hoo.

  • -=RkR=- (10 Feb 2007 9:17)

I should probably hit my own page more often... I've been consumed by work. The problem with dealing with a global organization is that by the time I get to work in the morning, people on the other side of the planet have been CREATING work for me all night long.
    Such is life in IT.

  • dsstrlght (10 Feb 2007 12:09)

Congratulations!! that's a lot of downloads!

  • -=RkR=- (11 Feb 2007 6:02)

Thank ya!, I'm over 22,000 overall now. That's about 20,000 more than I expected :-)

  • -=RkR=- (11 Feb 2007 6:32)

I ended up putting "For The Love Of God" back up on mp3lizard since I've had so many requests for it. I'm glad people seem to like it as much as I do!
I hope to have my version of Joe Satriani's "The Extremist" up sometime this week.

  • dsstrlght (15 Feb 2007 17:56)

Oh yeah, I went back and listened to it again today. Thanks! Looking forward to hearing the Satriani.

  • charlie8j (18 Feb 2007 4:36)

Hey you !!! Big Congrats on your downloads !!! See ya soon ......

  • -=RkR=- (18 Feb 2007 9:08)

Thanks! I've had way more interest than I ever expected. I just started putting stuff out there so friends could check it out, but it tuned into something...more.

It was 31F last night here, so I uploaded a bunch of JAMAICA pics from various trips to help me remember what warmth was like.

  • -=RkR=- (18 Mar 2007 11:50)

I just registered my own domain:

Not much there yet, but there will be shortly.

  • dsstrlght (18 Mar 2007 17:29)

I guess you were cold! Those are a lot of pictures. I love the blue colors of the ocean. Is it totally coincidental or did you know Mark and Brian on KLOS have been broadcasting from Jamaica this past week?
Here in LA it was 89 degrees on Friday, 81 on Thursday, 92 on Monday so I'm kind of glad we've come down to the 70's today and in the forecast for the next few days. It was nice to get in my car and be able to touch the steering wheel.
I'm officially 1/3 of the way through the master's program now and still have my 4.0.
I just keep thinking about how it will be when it's all over. The beach, the fun, the...:)

  • -=RkR=- (27 Mar 2007 17:35)

Congrats on the 4.0! That's quite an achievement!! I don't listen to the radio much anymore, so I hadn't heard them. I know Mark, he used to work here in town at WQLT years ago. He went by "Marcus T" then...

  • -=RkR=- (27 Mar 2007 17:41)

I have put a new blog online at my domain, and since it's MY domain I'm going to move everthing there and shut this one down shortly. Thanks to After Dawn for hosting this site. My MP3Lizard page will remain mostly intact, but there will be additional songs available for download on

The music page isn't up yet but I expect to have it online by this weekend.

Here's the link to the new blog, register and say hello!

I know you don't come here much if any anymore but I think this will trigger an email from Afterdawn that someone posted a message in your shoutbox.
I hear you used to play Unreal Tournament with JJ. He's got me playing now. Just thought I'd show you what I found out on the Cranes last night.
